  • the world is not going to deflate and end because of us. it should all work out as it has since the beginning of the concept of time. we are just a fun new and interesting flavor who sees (well i see it as) the matrix as our star wars. the iraq war is the closest relation to vietnam. We saw columbine and 9/11 all when we were addressing our teachers prefixed with miss and mister. if the corporations must change to stifle our survivalistic mercenary job hopping ways then so be it.

  • @severrnijKGU Thank you. We are forcing change and the other generations don't like it. First black president, iPod, new religious movements, a huge skepticism of authority especially government, changing media., business ecosystems, changing ways people are treated. Work is actually fun now. Get on this frequency Gen X or be left behind. Just like we threw out your good old days that probably were not that good anyway. Be in the now and keep looking toward the future.

  • Studying generations made me realize that studying generations is stupid. Were all the same only were young and their old. There is no difference between us at 20 when compared to them at 20. I personally am not worried about the stuff except for when I'm stopped by the cops because I quote "look like a trouble maker"

  • @HeroicNerd This clip was recorded almost 3 years ago and I think its fair to say that time has had already had an affect. The concerns and ambitions are very different to what we might hear from a class of 2011. In that sense I wouldn't necessarily cross out this line of research - it does tell us something, but I agree technology as a subject crosses all boundaries, nationality, gender, sexuality, and age. It is a personal experience, but persons also grow, learn, and change.

  • @HeroicNerd Tell Gen X that. They have no problem generalizing y by a couple people with attitude problems at the job.

  • Martin, I guess you can't handle a debate with me on the subject of our Generation. You like the majority of our generation can't handle a debate that puts into questions your overinflated self worth.

  • @acousticfreeze That's quite an aggressive statement and an opinion formed from an online forum?

  • This is what I can say we are a Generation that lacks self-sufficiency. We make excuses for our childish behavior. last but not least Gen Y prefers lying over telling the truth due to the generations inflated Grandiose Self-Esteem

  • @acousticfreeze That's quite a sweeping generalisation. Send me the evidence.

  • I would like to add, that Gen Y Leaders are tired of babysitting the rest of Gen Y.

  • Martin, Generation Y has no courage of the old school nature. Most of the Generation Y where I am The United States are only in it for themselves. They care not about debate, they care, only about when the next reality TV Show comes on, and when they get their Welfare check. I would say that they are the Gilded Youth of Rome. Once again, I bring the question, what good is Online campaigns without Offline action?

  • @acousticfreeze I'm not sure where you are looking, but all around I memorised by young people, their talents, and their energies. I wouldn't suggest however that they are any different to any generation for that, but the context is always different - technology, politics, and science, and that for me is worth thinking about?

  • What good is Internet debate if offline action is not incorporated in that debate?

  • Martin, what good is an Internet debate unless the actions are applied to the offline world? Most people in Generation Y have no courage to get off of the Internet High Horse, and tend to hide behind their laptops. I go down to the Legislature in my State here in the US and apply my thinking to the Offline World to try and change things. Internet debate is useless without mixing offline and online actions.

  • @acousticfreeze Thank you for your comment. I agree with the point you make and have often advocated the Internet as a means to improving the quality of our lives in the offline world, whether it be events, serendipitous meetings, and/or better connected families. The day it takes away is the day when the individual, group or society asks the tough questions. Are we there yet? Probably.

  • genY- I like fukkking them but I hate being in the same room afterwards.

  • I know, those arrogant stupid whores act like I fuck them to hear them talk, I fuck them because I'm bored.

  • OH COME ON! most of us havent even gotten out of high school and college yet! oh you know, the time when your pretty much SUPPOSED to be shallow? you all say we are pussies, but none of us has even held a public office yet! you guys are fucking ridiculous

  • So what, like I said before, most generations make the most impact when they're young. Your music is garbage, you have no culture. What makes you think your politics will be any better?

Like everything else in your sad, pathetic, insignificant lives your parents will be running the show.

    menarebetterthanwhimmin.

  • think what you want, but you are the one suffering here. the 80's arent coming back, so you might as well get used to it.

  • Stupid conformist, when are you going to learn. You are suffering, you're just not aware of it because you're uninformed and surrounded by technology.

And I treated the 2000's like the 80's, as I will for the next decade. I can do whatever the fuck I want, like I said I I don't care what you think. Go conform and shop at American Eagle and race mix with blacks or whatever it is you do.

    menarebetterthanwhimmin.

  • good thing i have YOU to tell me what im feeling. oh thank you, person i've never met. and let me remind you that you are conforming to a set of ideals too.

  • Comment removed

  • Really!? What am I conforming to exactly? Please mister! I gots to know!

  • the whole idea "hey, i can do whatever i want because, well, i like to!" and come on dude, if you ARE gen y, you dont even remember the 80's in a way that would allow you to soak up their culture

  • Comment removed

  • No, it just sounds like I have common sense.

And I don't follow rules. Who the fuck said I have to remember the 80's to enjoy it's culture? That's retarded.

What about those stupid limp wristed enviro-cunts who think they're living in 1968? How are they any different?

And I might not remember most of the 80's but I have more knowledge of it than most people who lived through it. For example, I nail every 80's category on Jeopardy, every fucking time, it's no contest.

  • @shelivade91 BAM!

  • Yeah Y, well what can you say...a real let down, the first generation not to be cooler than the previous, happy pc little robot consumers, complete fluff. Sorry but someone's got to say it... :)

  • yeah fuck this pussy generation.

  • I already said that but this fascist prick keeps deleting my comments. Fucking pussies rely on Internet mods to protect them from cyber bullying. Like you said complete fluff.

    Like mother like Gen Y.

  • Give me a break!

Generation Y are the most gullible and manipulated gen in history.

the only thing that interests geny is: celebs, big brother, celebs, celeb gossip, celebs, x factor, WAGS, celebs and celebs

  • @Ifuckingh8you How do you know this. I know a whole bunch of fifty year olds that that's all they care about, I am not going to make a generalization of what I see out of a couple of people. There was a guy that said Gen Y can't spell. The guy made five or six grammar mistakes in three sentences.

  • ok, the participants are forgetting (ignoring?) the first thing they learned as an undergrad: "Most of the information on the internet is shyte. If you are going to cite an internet source of information, it had better be from a reputable source."

Gen Y is too dependent on technology. The movie "The Matrix" or the series "Rise of the Cybermen" is fate of this generation.

  • The W generation is the Y generation. I think you mean the Baby Boomer generation was for peace.

  • thats being a pussy!

  • I liked this a lot

  • I bet you didn't get all their consent to publish this on you tube ! Nor the legal rights to the music ;)

  • Well, if they spoke in front of the camera I'll assume consent, and as for the music - surely viral marketing. They should be paying me :)

  • Generation Y is almost all foreigners?

  • Perfect. Multiculturalism rules.

  • No wonder I don't fit in with my generation.

  • @martinscahill The Questions that our Generation should ask about themselves.

Why do Gen Y prefer escapism? Who are our leaders? What Rebels do we look up too? (I don't mean the Gangsta Rappers) Why are we afraid to apply offline actions to an online campaign? Where are we going to get leadership from? How do we become less dependent? These are questions that should be answered but usually are not. Most of Gen Y prefers not to read, at least in the country I am at.

  • No this video is just racist and portrays them like that to look PC. Multiculturalism gives Gen Y'ers a hard on because it's trendy.

  • very interestin...

  • Generation Y needs some strong leaders...I see a lot of thinkers in my generation but no one acts.

  • Or do they? They might not be acting with a banner and a wooden placard (where did that ever get us), but what about all those campaigns initiated online. The conversations between youths across border. The progression of thinking through debate. Change is happening, subtly, but it's happening? Is it?

  • @martinscahill I would say that Gen Y are the Gilded Youth of Rome. Once again, I bring the question, what good is Online campaigns without Offline action?

  • @martinscahill what good is an Internet debate unless the actions are applied to the offline world?
