Why are they trying to resuscitate a cold body that has a gun shot to the right temple? They are doctors and would have been used to telling if someone has been dead for a while.Ughhh so bad. But hey, at least they got Kal Penn off of the show. Can't stand his stoner films, and couldn't stand his character on house.
@kchansen1366 not sure exactly why he did it in the show. some say he met the people who killed his parents or it was also because of ambers death. i think it could have been both. he had seen a lot of death and maybe he couldnt take it anymore. sorry if this didnt help. i tried my best
@thweepz Thanks, I guess that the best answer is that "there sometimes is no answer" why things like this happen, and that has more of a foundation in reality than saying he killed himself for a specific reason. I thought one good explanation would be that it is very difficult for someone of middle eastern descent to live in the US,, especially after all the hate that those people have faced after 9/11, but we will never really know I suppose.
If they want it to be real they didn't give a reason more than 70% of people don't give a reason they just do it and leave family and friends wondering why?!?!? Just like you are all doing!!!

@VolimPartizan3333 nope, the actor told he was leaving and propably one of the reasons the show won't tell why he shot himself, is that it was one of the reasons for what happended to house (he can't stand the fact he doesn't know why something happens)
Also, i'm not sure if you guys knew this or not, but John Cho (Harold) was in a season 1 episode of House (1x20: Love Hurts). It's just too bad he and Kal never had a scene together on the show.

How can anyone say that suicide is selfish if that person really can't take being here any more? Aren't you being selfish for trying to force them to deal with things that they do not wish to deal with? Just watching this on USA and noticed something. The gunshot was to the right temple, but when they enter the room, the gun's to his left. Maybe House was right after all, maybe it was... murder.
I cried like crazy all the way during this episode, perhaps because I struggled with depression and suicide myself ... but this was so sudden! I mean they could have chosen to have him quit or get injured or get fired, but instead they had him commit suicide ... such a damn moving and upsetting episode!!

Nearly every person I know admitted to having suicidal thoughts as a teenager and thats how it starts. All teens think their life is extremely difficult, all teens think its more difficult then others. But this is part of life, teens are stupid as hell when it comes to rationality/emotional control. I was there once too.
@sacr3 I couldn't disagree more. What's wrong with admitting you once had those intentions, in the past? I'm well again, and I'm proud of that. My past is a huge part of who I am, and I wouldnt' change it. Shrouding suicidal tenancies in secrecy doesn't help in the least, it just feeds the whole taboo and stigma surrounding it. Yeah teen years are incredibly difficult and it's hard to handle your emotions, but there's still a difference between that and actual, clinical depression.
@FireflyFanatic3 That is true, when it is a chemical ordeal in your head that causes these thoughts then yes that'll definitely feed the suicidal tendencies even more then just feeling down because of a recent breakup etc. But both suffer the same thing. The only difference between chemical depression and depression is that one is physical, the other is emotional, but both have the same results - they want to end the pain. Suicide is an option, and everyone at one time thought about using it.
It's a shame they wrote off one of the best characters and actors of this show. Kutner, we will miss you but will enjoy your episodes in rerun and DVD.
When I first saw this I didn't notice all the blood on the ground cause it was a dark room but that was rather grim..I surprised they didn't add a gunshot but maybe that would be to much for Fox

I don't get why people find this rushed. It was sudden, sure, but I find that it would be much less effective if the audience had seen it coming. If they were, as you say, pressured into writing him out of the series, I reckon this was the way to do it. One of the episodes that's moved me most.
Has anybody ever thought about this? Taub says that Kutner isnt showing up to work till 12:00 PM because he has to take care of his sick dog. Yet when 13 and Foreman break in to his place, theres no dog., Maybe, Kutner took the dog to the vet, the dog had to be put to sleep because it was dieing painfully. Kutner, who was keeping his emotions bottled up, finnaly had a mental breakdown and commited suicide. Pretty reasoable answer.
@BIGw0rlds Right, or maybe he didn't have a dog. As one could establish from previous conversations between Kutner and Taub, and the other members of the team for that sake, they had no sort of relationship when they weren't at work. The way I see it, it's much more likely that Taub merely tried deflecting from the fact that Kutner hadn't made it to work in time, so that they could focus on the case at hand, or hoping to have House cut him some slack.
@retroprosa But that doesn't make sence. Why would Taub lie about Kutner? Saying "Oh he hasnt come in yet." House would have found this a lot less suspicious then "Hes taking care of his sick dog."
@BIGw0rlds Taub has never been very good at playing House's game. He's gotten himself into trouble plenty of times before, due to poor lies or an inability to uncover House's true agendas. But I guess there's an off chance that the dog-story was one Kutner used to make Taub less suspicious, maybe hoping that the others would buy this story. It would be silly to assume so, but Kutner was hardly in his right mind.
It isn't often I am genuinely surprised/shocked by a character being killed off, but DAMN I did not see this one coming. Spent the rest of the episode just sitting there with my jaw hanging. I didn't even like Kutner but that was just .... whoa.

@MJohnnyboy of course I know. And that was no reason to kill the character: he could move to another hospital or something. But no. Besides, his job on White House wouldn't be forever (he got out one year later). The directors chose to kill the character and he won't realy come back (except as an hallucination)

This was the best, the second team was never good enough as the first, the characters were pretty shitty after you compared them and they failed to fill the void. Taub is an unlikeable cunt, Kutner was annoingly optimistic and 13 careless and never showed that likeable wounded style that cameron pulled off and 13 just seemed whiny. Thank god they kept foreman and brought back Chase
I actually liked this death...I mean, I loved Kutner, favorite of the new three choices, but really, it DOES sort of fit--Kutner was always the optimist, always Mr. Happy, and yet, for all that, 13 hits it right on the head.
Taub was VERY pessimistic, but because of this he could at least rationalize all the awful things that might happen to him he CONFRONTED them--same with 13, she DID test herself...Kutner? Nothing?
Its obvious - an actor dont have any time to act in House becouse of job ib Obamas government (Wikipedia), and creators were have to delete his personage from the serial.
To everybody who doesn't know why Kal Penn's character Lawrence Kutner killed himself, there is no explanation. Yes, the reason in "reality" was that Kal Penn took a job at the White House, so they needed to write off Kutner from the show. The title of the episode, honestly explains all you need to know about Kutner's character killing himself, it's called "Simple Explanation," in that, sometimes the "simplest explanation," is that there is "no explanation."
meh in my opinion it was the only way for Kutner to end his part of the show.

Well they had to kill him off, he accepted another job, but yeah it was kinda unexpected. But i like to think of it as, you should get to know people and help them if you notice something, or this might happen.

Strange though, Omar Epps killed himself in ER. That was jacked up. He jumped in front of a train and they brought him in and was working on him and they didn't know cause he was all messed up and they were all where is he and they paged him and the pager on the patient went off. Remember that? It was so sad. He killed himself because one of the doctors was mean to him all the time. Can't remember which.
i guess it was the only way they could remember him for a while till the season was over.. plus i understand why the writers were pissed he wanted to leave... he was one the favourites on the show!

Kutner, who was keeping his emotions bottled up, finnaly had a mental breakdown and commited suicide. Pretty reasoable answer.

@BIGw0rlds Right, or maybe he didn't have a dog. As one could establish from previous conversations between Kutner and Taub, and the other members of the team for that sake, they had no sort of relationship when they weren't at work. The way I see it, it's much more likely that Taub merely tried deflecting from the fact that Kutner hadn't made it to work in time, so that they could focus on the case at hand, or hoping to have House cut him some slack.

@retroprosa But that doesn't make sence. Why would Taub lie about Kutner? Saying "Oh he hasnt come in yet." House would have found this a lot less suspicious then "Hes taking care of his sick dog."

@BIGw0rlds Taub has never been very good at playing House's game. He's gotten himself into trouble plenty of times before, due to poor lies or an inability to uncover House's true agendas. But I guess there's an off chance that the dog-story was one Kutner used to make Taub less suspicious, maybe hoping that the others would buy this story. It would be silly to assume so, but Kutner was hardly in his right mind.

Taub was open and accepting about his marital issues...
Cameron and Chase and Foreman have admitted problems...
Even HOUSE let it out--but never Kutner.

It isn't often I am genuinely surprised/shocked by a character being killed off, but DAMN I did not see this one coming. Spent the rest of the episode just sitting there with my jaw hanging. I didn't even like Kutner but that was just .... whoa.

Besides, his job on White House wouldn't be forever (he got out one year later). The directors chose to kill the character and he won't realy come back (except as an hallucination)

This was the best, the second team was never good enough as the first, the characters were pretty shitty after you compared them and they failed to fill the void. Taub is an unlikeable cunt, Kutner was annoingly optimistic and 13 careless and never showed that likeable wounded style that cameron pulled off and 13 just seemed whiny. Thank god they kept foreman and brought back Chase

I actually liked this death...I mean, I loved Kutner, favorite of the new three choices, but really, it DOES sort of fit--Kutner was always the optimist, always Mr. Happy, and yet, for all that, 13 hits it right on the head.
Manboy--he didn't "grow up," couldn't accept things.
Taub was VERY pessimistic, but because of this he could at least rationalize all the awful things that might happen to him he CONFRONTED them--same with 13, she DID test herself...Kutner? Nothing?

To everybody who doesn't know why Kal Penn's character Lawrence Kutner killed himself, there is no explanation. Yes, the reason in "reality" was that Kal Penn took a job at the White House, so they needed to write off Kutner from the show. The title of the episode, honestly explains all you need to know about Kutner's character killing himself, it's called "Simple Explanation," in that, sometimes the "simplest explanation," is that there is "no explanation."

if he quit the job then it would piss off a shitload of fans
if he was murdered then people would think "Why was he murdered and who would do such a thing?"
but im guessing they chose to suicide because it seemed the most reasonable to try to somewhat shock alot of fans but have it unsuspecting at the same time.
but if he suicided it would shock alot of fans and think "Why?"

Kal Penn, the man portraying as Kutner in House, got a new job working at the White House, and for that reason he asked if he could leave the show. In order for his work to be completed on House, they thought it would be best if he was just dead.

I don't know why but I'm sure it's not a suicide and, one day, there will be an episode were the killer is in the hospital (kill again ? ill ?) or found or something like that. I mean... why Kutner would suicide ? He was happy, had a good job, knew how Taub was disgusted about suicide in his life,... Why would he do that ? I still don't understand and that's a shame.. =/

Strange though, Omar Epps killed himself in ER. That was jacked up. He jumped in front of a train and they brought him in and was working on him and they didn't know cause he was all messed up and they were all where is he and they paged him and the pager on the patient went off. Remember that? It was so sad. He killed himself because one of the doctors was mean to him all the time. Can't remember which.
