  • Is there any way to switch the buttons around? Like a TE stick layout instead of L1 and L2 in the first column

  • that's nice, my only question is, can I use the bat top adapter to use a seimitsu bubble top instead of a sanwa one for a sanwa joystick?

  • Excellent video. Got the Sanwa parts on ebay for just a few bucks and this mod took about 20 min, but only because I got the microswitches out of place. Did need a drill and dremel to drill out and clean up those holes for the screws, but that was very simple and straightforward.

But I'm still losing a lot at MVC3, lol.

  • Could I mod my fs3 wireless?

  • what did you use to cut the holes

  • Greetings, I have a problem with my stick, is a hori fs3 too, but my joystick spins, I don't know how to say it but you can twist it all the way and its kind of annoyin, anyone that can help me please with my problem?

  • nicholas cage

  • thanks so much for this tutorial!!!! btw have you ever thought about putting in new buttons or a stick? i have a t5 hori which is similar to this one, and i want to put sanwa parts into it, but im not sure if itll fit, and the top panel is metal so i wouldnt be able to drill holes for a mount or widening the button holes like i see other ppl do with cheaper sticks...theres not much on the srk forums about the t5 hori either

  • I know that video was probably a extremely old post but I need any type of help. I damaged my factory PCB and opted for the Cthulhu pcb. However I have no idea how to wire the select and start and ps button two it you have any ideas?

  • umm can anone tell me if u can fix ur hori fs3 or how, because mines seem to have stop working well it works but like in the middle of a combo it would sometime stop working and repeat the last action i did so if the last thing i did was click down it would keep going down and i know for a fact turbo is not on SO PLZ HELP ME IF U CAN

  • thanxs for this video, i just did same thing and worked nicely.

  • Thank you! I've installed a new cherry top and the Sanwa octagonal gate, just using your video. Thank you soooooo much!

  • hey, can you install the Sanwa bat top and the octagonal gate on a stock Hori Fighting Stick 3 lever? In this video, are the only 3rd party parts you used were the gate, thread converter, and the bat top?

  • @bludika yes. the joystick was stock. the only parts i used were the gate, thread converter, and top

  • @markazali hey, a quick question, I got the wireless stick that comes in the Tekken 6 bundle which is also by Hori, and I would like to change the stock to a bat top and an octagonal plate. Is the mod as simple as what you did in this video? are all Hori sticks internally, basically the same designs? like would the octagonal gate that you used in this video fit into that tekken 6 wireless stick? thanks

  • @bludika wish i could tell you for sure... i'd be willing to bet though.

  • @markazali btw, how is this arcade stick? I know its like the entry level one by hori, but is it good?

  • @bludika it's great. I haven't been using it much lately though, but i do recommend it if you want an arcade feel to your home gaming experience

  • Please please somebody answer this question....What do you mean when you say we have to drill some holes in for the screws? I got rid of the notches but I can't fit any screws anywhere on this gate...

  • @chenwu2000 Hey hey. Probably too late, but you know the 4 screw holes, only accessible from one side of the gate? run your fingers over 'em to find them. You just need to send a drill through those holes so you can poke the screws down through 'em. It's actually a really simple process.

  • I still have an extra screw adapter and bat top from when I changed the cherry top from my Hori EX 2 for 360. So, I'm gonna use it on my Fighting Stick 3 that comes today. I'd love to have an octagonal restrictor, but having to drill holes 'n all that kinda kills it for me. If it was ready to go 'n you just had to unscrew the square gate and screw in the octagonal, I'd be willing to buy it. I rather not open the stick though, so with that and having to drill 'n stuff - I'll just leave it be.

  • what do you mean by you had to make four notches or something? i might buy this stick and the sanwa stick parts and the octagonal gate. Also, how is the Hori FS3 a good stick? is it pretty good? I know its the more affordable hori sticks, but I've been reading good reviews on it, whats yours?

  • why'd you want an octagonal gate? what game benefits from that?

  • @lamppshade09 it feels more natural to me when playing street fighter since the games i uses 8 direction gestures. i'd probably leave it as is if i was playing pac-man

  • that watch is nice

  • If it would be your first stick, then the Hori buttons are ok.

But mostly people would prefer Sanwa stick and buttons, they feel and response beter. You also can buy a stick with Sanwa parts already built in, such as the Madcatz SF TE or Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA.

Or just buy a standard Hori stick and buy a Sanwa joystick and Sanwa buttons yourself and build them in.

Stock Hori buttons are fine until you got the money for the Sanwa parts, or you can go for a stick with Sanwa parts installed.

  • What's the true purpose of modding? Is it for the feel? Or is it because the parts feel cheap and generic?

  • @Tud3la Both, Sanwa buttons feel better, because the Hori buttons are not the best. Some people like them, some people don't. Sanwa buttons are just better and more sensitive. Sanwa parts are just better and increase performance for some people.

  • @FerdieFB23

Cool, so if I were to buy a fight stick it would be better to mod it? Because I was thinking of buying one and just using it as it is until I get enough money to get some Sanwa parts.

  • Hey I was wondering if i were to just buy a sanwa joystick and completely replace it with the old joystick in my hori fighting stick 3 would i need to also put in an octagonal gate? Would it already come with the sanwa? Thanks

  • Nice one brudda. Worked a charm. You did forget to mention that after cutting off the notches you would need to drill holes through the back of the spot where they were...to make the holes for the screws. Still fucking awesome job BRAVO!!!

  • Just for the hell of pointing it out, 4-way means that it only moves UDLR and not in diagonals, they're called restrictor plates. With gates you usually speak of 'square' and 'octagonal'.

  • Great video

  • Where'd you buy your bat top and is it a specific kind of bat top.

  • its only the gate you put in right? Not the whole sanwa stick.

  • Is it better to just buy a Sanwa Joystick right off the bat or is it better to just buy the octoganal gate? i also have the same stick

  • @BlackSabbathMark

Buy the whole stick. Trust me, it feels a MILLION times better on the FS3

  • @atreyu25 hey i just got some sanwa button for my hori fs3. and i desolder the button out. can i solder it back to the pcb.. or do i have run wire?

  • @biggerandbigger

you have to do one of 2 things. 1) run wires, or 2) drill holes to make the sanwa prongs fit. (but you have to watch out because you don't want to strip the copper. good luck with mod!

  • @atreyu25 thank alot for answering back..guess i will run wire to be safe, thank again

  • @atreyu25 Oh do you the layout of which is ground and pacific button on the pcb for all the button.. is all the one on left is ground and the right is the according to it postion,,

  • @biggerandbigger

Um, here is where it gets retarded. For triangle, X, and L2, the ground is to the right on the PCB. every other button aside from these 3, the ground will be on the left.

Oh and since you're running wire, make sure MAKE SURE MAAAAKEEE SURREE you tape the PCB to the top layer of the stick, and use electrical tape to cover the metal bottom plate. You don't want anything to ground out.

  • @atreyu25 lol..weird layout but got it..and one switch hole for the pcb only have like 1/4 of copper on it , You think it will still make enough contact? Sorry for the bombard of ? O And thanx for the tip on pcb taping to the top..Thanx for the your time dude

  • @biggerandbigger

ahhh no problem. as long as the copper is connected to the trace in the PCB board, its fine to solder it. if not, try finding the trace in the middle of the PCB, scrape some of the board off to reveal the copper trace, and try to get a signal out of it. if there's no signal, you're fucked, and you are forced to buy a new PCB. On the hori, the copper strips out too easily, so if you mess up, i suggest the Cthulhu as a replacement board.

  • I swapped w/ octogonal and went straight back to square. Octogonal is not "bad" per se I use charge characters and it is not good at all for me....

  • I just switched from square to octo and my sf2 has never been better ;)

  • wait what size do you need that fits the gate for the stick?

  • oh and, is that the sanwa converter you used? says its for seimitsu sticks...

  • think this mod would work the same on a Wii version fight stick?

  • can u tell me where to get the 8 way restricotr plate? liek provide a link for me?

  • Are those the stock microswitches in your stick?—or have you swapped them out for Sanwas?

  • stock

  • can you show us exactly where to drill the holes?

  • i dont have a dremel. is there another way?

  • i have the same arcade stick but for some reason it wont work on my ps3. i think the usb cord is fault cuz it doesnt work on my pc anymore. is there a way u can help me with my problem cuz i have new fighting games and i have no arcade stick to play with.

  • Thanks. I'll look into either getting a dremel... Or bumming one from a tool crazy friend. :D

  • for sure. it'll probably take you 15 minutes to put the 4 holes in... I guess dremels are one of those tools most people can use for small jobs like this.

  • I'm a complete noob when it comes to modding. I think I want to go with the octagonal gate... Do you think someone who has never done so much as open a controller or console could perform this mod by himself?

I heard you mentioning cutting and drilling... That scares me. :(

  • If you can figure out how to puncture holes through the 4 indentations, you'll be fine. Best tool for that step is probably a dremel. There is a bit that is about the same size as the hole.

Opening the controller requires no experience as you can see in the video.

  • I would definitely recommend modding your gate

  • Do you think the GT-Y OCTAGONAL gate was an improvement? I'm getting one soon and just wondering how it performs compared to the japanese square gates that I really hate..
