You have to sing this anthem as you are William himself.
He sings that he is William of Nassau, from 'German' blood, a Prince of Orange also but faithful to "this land of mine" (his dynasty owned vast possessions in today's Benelux). He sings that he has always been loyal to the King of Spain (who was the Sovereign over the Low Countries). Later in the long (!) anthem he explains why he felt he had to lead the rebellion against the King and guide the Low Countries into indepedance.
@Boerenfox William was adopted by King Carlos I.... in the rest of Europe known as Charles V... he was loyal to Carlos I, but he died... his son Filippe II was the most Catholic king of all in Spain and also responsible for the inquisition... therefor 'hated' in the Protestant Netherlands... William was Catholic and always was but he wanted freedom for the Protestant... Trivia; Charles V said to his son to work close with William because without him he couldn't control The Netherlands
@Sanderos25 in spain William of Orange is known as Guillermo and i found this writings in El Escorial... the Royal city of the Spanish kings near Madrid
@Staenwald Its William of Orange personal anthem, and when he rebelled against the Spanish he only wanted reforms, no independence (what happend 80 years later), so thats why he is loyal to the king of Spain.
Hi, I would like to know if this is the corrdct form of pronnouncitating the words. I want to learn this anthem so if anybody may tell me, thanks a lot.
Who the hell sang this and where's he from? The music is wrong, the pronounciation is lacking and it's too fast. Then heb ik is pronounced as hehebik. And the text is wrong aswell whether you take the Modern- or Middledutch version. It also sounds like the singer wants to continue with the sixth couplet to complete the anthem and it suddenly stops.
