OK, over the last 40 years he's the world's greatest songwriter. He has produced some of the greatest albm in the history of rockl. But I don't get why people make such a big deal about Bruce Springsteen as a performer.
@CPSJSMSUUMUGA Really? I think pretty darn highly of him as a songwriter, but I think his greatest strength (or at least the one that really separates from his contemporaries) is his abilities as a live performer. Never seen a single person with the ability to electrify a crowd like he can or bring them to a hush by just raising his hand. It doesn't click every night, but when it does it is magical (corny, I know).
@mapender I was kidding. I've seen Bruce 59, times, beginning with three on the Darkness tour.
The first time was at the Fox Theater in Atlanta (9/30/78). I had seen the Rolling Stones in that same little 4,900 seat venue about four months earlier - don't know why they played the Fox.
I had read about Bruce's concerts in Rolling Stone and thought it had to be hyperbole.
Nope, he blew everyone I had ever seen (The Who?) away.
" I saw rock &rRoll future and it's name is Bruce Springsteen."
Do I have to say his name? DO I HAVE TO SAY HIS NAME? Full force, full glory Clarence and Bruce picking up the audience and mopping the auditorium with them, you can't make this stuff up.
This was back in the day when you had to have talent to please an audience-had to sing had to play instruments and had to be great at both. Clarence Clemmons coming at you like a freight train...Bruce singing his heart out...Could barely recognize Max Weinberg..Danny Federicci (sp) tinkling the ivories..Niels Lofgren and all the rest...You know a band is having a blast when they are smiling and laffing over the same routines they play over and over-and the audience feeds off it. Bruce!

I was at this show. I remember this as if it were yesterday. It was my first Bruce concert and I told people to watch out for him.
Nils Lofgren wasn't in the band back in 1978. He showed up years later.
