Guys,All memories and so many, one thing we all have in common is living life to the full, dont forget you only get one kick of the ball and no matter how skint you are ,enjoy always.,a scottish man that knows how seasick steve felt and Billy Connelly when on the streets.Take Care always THE BiG STEVE.
@TheCobraUK You win! Your brilliantly constructed arguments have defeated me. I'm sorry for ever testing your assertions that London was full of 'a Arabs' and that 'half of europe is scum'. Just out of interest (and not wishing to further any conflict), which half of Europe do you consider to be 'scum'?
@rothordegilian I suggest you go back to the beginning and start all over again....and just a tip "Read it properly before asking such a stupid question!"
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you really are boring, obviously can't read properly, jump to wrong conclusions! Clearly need a girlfriend or a hobby instead of sat on the (pc) trying to be the cocky know all.
@TheCobraUK Ok, thanks for the tip! I've gone back to the beginning (as you suggested) and I've obviously missed something. You wrote 'Couldn't agree more! London full of a Arabs and half of Europes scum!' At first I took this to be a toe-headed, xenophobic, racist rant by a bonehead that has completely misunderstood the sentiment behind a song about the poor of society having to fight rich man's wars. I was obviously wrong. Just for the record, what did you mean by that comment?
@rothordegilian Come on, tell everyone what you mean by your comments! Is half of Europe scum? Which half do you consider not scum? Do you live in London? Are you over-run by 'a Arabs'? Are you single-handledly fighting a class war against 'a Arabs' and half of Europe (the scum half, obviously)?I suggest you may be a reactionary, prove me wrong. We've had our fun, now it's time for you to explain your original point of view. Front up.
Around 0:13 / 0:14 there's a wrong chord played by sum1, either by EC or the keyboard player and it sounds aweful. I think it's EC coz he looks down at his guitar. Human I guess but still strange for a pro like EC.
@theselector It's definitely Elvis' guitar that plays a bum chord. He misses another one during the bridge. But no matter, the song is 30 years old and he rarely plays it live now, so we can probably forgive him.
what the fuck? I remembered how ace this was and it's as ace as I remember it was - how far can you sit back on the phrasing without it falling off the... oh who cares
Frankly, his performance of Alison that day was "dreadful", but not those of this one and Supsicious Minds. Many artists just couldn't sing live well, as Elvis could. It is this verson of Oliver's Army which made me buy his album.
I can't make out why sunbeam11 says Elvis was never a genius. For he's TOO versed in music?
I actually really like his performance of Alison. I thought it was better than the recording- although the recording was still amazing. And I definitely agree with you that he can sing live well. He's not like those other artists that sound horrible live- he sounds really great.
The Mojo EC interview (with aged Zep members on the cover) was pretty insightful. He was saying how much Glastonbury was a disaster. Maybe there was some indifference backstage or something. The crowd seems to be happy that the band are there. They sound and look pretty awesome! It's obvious the EC is constantly moving forward. Thanks for posting.
you know what - we're all damn lucky to have lived in the same generation as EC - that guy has given the world some of the best melodies and lyrics EVER written - and to have grown up watching the process i dare say is on a par with watching the incredible development of maybe 2 other acts - beatles & sinatra. Name anyone else that has had the langth, breadth and incessant creative diversity of this guy. in friggin credible.
I dont understand why he wont ever play here again, i didn't see the crowd response being bad.Have I missed something. He said it was 1 of the worst experiences of his life .Please nlighten me.
im sure he sees something cause ive gone through that where the crowd enjoys it, but i felt like shit cause i didnt like it. so you see its being part of an artist being a pretensious bastard no matter what. thats what he is doing probs
He admitted it was a dreadful performance and he said that he is not bothered to play in england again cause we dont dig him, but in a way, this performance was alright he is still a genius
Well i doubt he said 'dig' as he is no hippy and never was. He is, I am afraid, older and weaker. I prefer the Elvis I saw back in the 70s and 80s to this shadow of his former self. It happens to them all eventually, the curse of success.
not to all of em, just some, McCartney is starting to lose it noooow, when he is 65, eric clapton gladly hasnt lost it, neither has pete townshend, elvis costello wasnt made for us the english, just like The Jam and Weller wasnt made for the americans
I think Elvis was a quintessential British artist at first, even though he likes to think of himself as Irish. The crowd wanted an Elvis before he disappeared up his own back end some years ago, around the time he decided country music was the way forward. He was never a genius but he was once very good.I don't rate Clapton as much as you do, I'm afraid. Not since the Cream days anyway.
I disagree. No.1: He was born In Ireland. No.2:He was and still is a genius. No.3: He never disappeared up his own asshole. Him and a handful of other like-minded artists were told they wouldn't be given Airplay due to their beliefs. Thank you Margaret Bloody Thatcher
one thing that puts me off going to glastonbury,no matter how many performances you watch no one seems to be passionate about who is playing, sort it out
I saw Costello play for about 90 mins at Glastonbury in 1987 only to call the Attractions on after him and play for another two hours. He debuted 'Tramp the Dirt Down' and had me in tears at 1.30 in the morning. Thanks Dekko.
