I am using final cut express 4 and using a GoPro HD Hero as well, but when i import then gopro footage it makes me render every time i put it in the timeline as well as any time i add an effect. Wondering if you knew how to fix this problem have been looking online for answers but nothing has worked

@graceNface yeah for sure. What you need to do is actually transcode all of the clips in MPEG Streamclip first (free download) Since you are using FC Express, use the Apple Intermediate Codec in streamclip, quality 100%, framerate left blank, and frame size unchanged. It will take a little bit, but you can also select your in and out points and leave out unwanted footage. Once you import these new files in final cut, if your sequence settings match these settings, you won't have to render

@abekislevitz I too use MPEG Streamclip to convert my GoPro clips, but when I export my videos under your recommended settings, my videos always come out a very large file size. Is there a way to compress the file in MPEG Streamclip without ruining the quality?

@snowconedxx39 instead of proRes you could do ProRes Proxy or LT and they will be smaller sizes. Not quite the highest qual, but still good. Transcoding to these formats will always give you larger files since they are uncompressed... external drives!
