I have read many negative reviews of this movie, especially anger from those who admire "Abre los Ojos" by Amenabar. However, while the Spanish movie was just an experiment, "Vanilla Sky" is a milestone. The movie contains several lines that can make us think for days about separation, loss, death, and unconscious thoughts....

@eventingirl001 it's about choosing to live life with your eyes wide open, regardless of the pain, the ugliness, the despair rather than in a state of dream where love is synthetic and joy and sorrow are merely facades...it's about the consequence of our choices and the magic of falling in love in an evening and losing it all...and still taking a step forward...because this is life...unless we come back and "meet again when we are both cats...."

Thanks for the positive comments guys, he actually shoots the gun in the trailer but not the film. Hopefully it will be an extra on the eventual blu ray release.

@RogerRamjet08 Fantastic!!!! You captured the feeling of this movie soooo well!!!!! This movie is so underappreciatted. People think it's so confusing but if you pay attention it is actually very easy to understand the plot. This movie NEEDS to come to Blu Ray & show that deleted scene with him firing the gun!!!!

@Anomiman in the original spanish film Abre Los Ojos the protagonist freaked out and started shooting people. They wanted to do it in Vanilla Sky but they took it out because they felt that the audience couldn't empathize with a protagonist that killed people. Hopefully if/when the movie comes to Blu Ray they will show the scene.
