My jazz band is in middle school, and we're already playing this son, and hopefully we're gonna go play this song at the elementary school next door. Oughta be fun
@DarkReiAyanami no trust me that's a fucked up version. your computer is fine I've listened to that album so much it's probably ruined lol. seriously though who would do such injustice to good music?
The lack of Chicanos/latinos in this vid is indicative of Hollywood's depiction of history.
The "Zoot Zoot riots" where white service men targeting the Chicano youth scene in LA, made up of Zoot Suiters. If you where a white Zoot Zoot in the 1940's you would've been targeted for being a "mexican-lover"
The song is cool, but at least acknowledge the chicanos whose blood was spilled in the actual event.
I strongly believe the swing revival needs a reboot, only this time around without the cartoonish retro revisionry and a stronger realization of musical evolution...
I love (real) swing music, but what killed the revival is that every band was totally retro towards it, trying too hard to recreate the 40s sound and image. Most of those bands mainly played cover songs. Not a lot of groups tried to do anything new with swing, and coming after the '97 ska revival, which had bands doing all sorts of new, diverse things with ska, swing stayed put and thus fizzled out, seemingly for good. If it wants to come back, it needs to have a better sense of evolution.
I'd like to retract my previous statement and apologize for taking something at face value when you guys obviously know more about this stuff than me.I listen mostly to German industrial rock anyhow.....whoops.
I agree with Skibz778... This Is a beautiful mixture of a lot generes... it sounds so sweet but with a incredible sound of the 90's even its a 40's swing like ones joe pass write at that time...
CPD never intended to revive "authentic" swing: 'Zoot' is in itself a mixture of rock and swing, while their other work experimented with funk, ska, rockabilly, etc.. They were attempting to create something new rather than cater to the banal, gimmicky "good ol' fashioned swingin' fun!" image/sound that bands like Brian Setzer and BBVD perpetuated.
It's a 90s song by a 90s band in a 90s fashion. Show some manners.
i have mastered this song on my alto saxophone. this song is amazing! i just really wish music like this was still as huge as it was like back in the 50's. if anyone knows or has any song of swing, plz, send me a message! thnx!!! XD
Heh, I love me the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. I used to know only this song, but their whole album is pretty awesome and worth a listen. I don't know too much about the genre as a whole, but it just seems like they are having a lot more fun than your average band.
This was the song my father used to teach me about swing music! Oh, we used dance to this soooooo much! There is actual video proof of us dancing to it at my cousin's wedding. I'm out of breath just listening to it!
them and a few other bands, during the late 90s, were involved in a swing revival.

Honestly, play a Nino Rota piece or something over the silent part, and it works pretty well.
