  • My jazz band is in middle school, and we're already playing this son, and hopefully we're gonna go play this song at the elementary school next door. Oughta be fun

  • 1:00 1:22

    lol panties

  • Was this song originally from the 1940's? Or does it just sound like it. I know the zoot suit riots happened in Los Angelis in 1943.

  • @jityr2 the song is from the 90's jazz revival

  • Doing this for my assignment... I need the stems for this! (no cheating intended) *cough cough*.

  • I Fell Like Steve Perry The Lead Singer Is Trying To Hard But Great Song and Vocals! To Bad Perry Fucked up Trying To Be "Cool"

  • Now You Sailors Know where Yer Wimmen Come For Love haha

  • Why is this song always associated with the Squirrel Nut Zippers?

  • thank you.

  • Whatfuckgoingstopitfastforwardspreadtokeyboard!

  • Is that how it's supposed to sound?! or has my computer broken down?

  • this video seems to be on fast forward on the song

  • @DarkReiAyanami no trust me that's a fucked up version. your computer is fine I've listened to that album so much it's probably ruined lol. seriously though who would do such injustice to good music?

  • it's interesting to watch ....

  • tha fuck?

  • AWFUL!

  • ass

  • What the hell is this horseshit?? Take this video down! What is wrong with you?!?

  • You really suck at editing...

  • take down this video

  • how dare you disgrace them there music is amazing fix it

  • F A I L

  • You need to be shot! How could you do that to them?! You jackrabbit! Fix it!

  • Dude. Fix the audio. I know some of these guys personally, and this is an insult to them.

  • hay you know them i love there song we played it my freshman year in marching band it is the best song ever even after 4 years of playining

  • fuck

  • wtf??? u fucked up a good song!

  • wtf? plz fix this mess.

  • Can anyone say Remix?!!!!

  • Someone probably already sped this song up and passed it off as a remix somewhere.

  • why

  • The video didn't used to have screwed up audio. What the hell happened?

  • Idk, there is another one, that's better, with a not creepy as hell video.

  • dude you fucked up a great song

  • What the hell is this??

  • why?

  • why even put this on youtube...horrible!

  • pure crap.

  • Skips and has missing segments. Needs to be fixed.

    SilverWhiskers

  • Personally, I think the garbled audience and subsequent silence adds to the video's surrealistic slant.

Honestly, play a Nino Rota piece or something over the silent part, and it works pretty well.

  • "Audio", not "audience". Sorry.

  • Great vid...except the song ends at 1:12...2 and a half minutes of silence. You may want to consider fixing that...

  • to you cats below, are you even listening?

  • Love the song, but what the hell is wrong with the video? It's all funked up.

  • great song but what is up with the video?

  • this song wuz in our p.e. swing dancing unit...kinda strange, considering the "throw back a bottle of beer" line...xD

  • Not to mention the whole song is about race riots...

  • And the 'Now you sailors know where your women come for love' probably isn't great in schools.

  • And this is probably one of the Daddies' cleaner songs....I'd love to hear a school play 'Flovilla Thatch' or 'Drunk Daddy'.

  • nope

  • @bindelbum i agree! i tried to post this song but as i now listen to it it's too fd up.. why won't you tube allow me/us to hear the original song

  • they played at jordan's imax theatre in the beginning with jazzy uber cool lights =-o lol

  • wow i almost forgot about this swing thing..that lasted about ten minutes.

  • what do you mean the swing thing lasted about ten minutes? In the video they kept playing for ten minutes while everyone danced?

  • He meant the swing revival movement...it was rather short-lived.

  • WTF?......what is up with that scarey ass clown?..........I fuckin hate clowns!

  • The lack of Chicanos/latinos in this vid is indicative of Hollywood's depiction of history.

The "Zoot Zoot riots" where white service men targeting the Chicano youth scene in LA, made up of Zoot Suiters. If you where a white Zoot Zoot in the 1940's you would've been targeted for being a "mexican-lover"

The song is cool, but at least acknowledge the chicanos whose blood was spilled in the actual event.

  • dude relax, it's just a music video. it's not like it was some big historical type movie

  • Hey I agree with you. The whole country like completely ignores us though so I am used to it.

  • Great song!

At 2:12 he looks like a vampire though

  • Thanks!!

  • What's the name of his white and black shoes ?

  • They're called "Spectators".

  • The shoes are called "brogues", or rather, "wingtips".

CPD actually have a song called "Wingtips", although it's not as much about shoes as it is about...death.... :\. But I digress.

  • I love this song!

I put a video of me playing it on trumpet

not the whole song but more like bits and pieces of it.

  • they fixed it!

  • You're right! I like this better then the alternate so yay!

  • this one of the songs my jr. high school concert band plays

  • man, i love that gibberish near the end... very well written. lol.

  • Sometimes it skips a lot and a few times it works fine. :\

  • It sucks that this whole "swing revival" got replaced with pop-music and boy bands. Damn 90's.

  • I strongly believe the swing revival needs a reboot, only this time around without the cartoonish retro revisionry and a stronger realization of musical evolution...

  • ummm.

    What?

  • I love (real) swing music, but what killed the revival is that every band was totally retro towards it, trying too hard to recreate the 40s sound and image. Most of those bands mainly played cover songs. Not a lot of groups tried to do anything new with swing, and coming after the '97 ska revival, which had bands doing all sorts of new, diverse things with ska, swing stayed put and thus fizzled out, seemingly for good. If it wants to come back, it needs to have a better sense of evolution.

  • omg, sum1 else that understands music on youtube, wohoo, i'm not alone

  • I read this exact same thing on wikipedia, SOMEONE is unoriginal and i must find out who!

  • terrible skipping problems

  • Its skipping for me

  • it plays just fine for me O.o

  • Somethings wrong with the video now O_o it used to play right..now it's skipping a ton! NOOoooOooo!!

  • Yeah, what the hell?

  • i love the song...but its all messed up on this vid. sounds like its constantly jumping...

  • Okay this has issues... 0/5...

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!! AND THE VIDEO

  • swing like you never going to dance again great music

  • ghosties

  • its is from 97 and what the hell is wrong with this video??? 0_o

I could've sworn it wasn't like that when i put it in my playlist.

  • oh does play 2 different spots at once?

  • somethings messed up with this video

  • Dude you messed this video up totally.

    Horrible redo it!

  • man r u in crack u dumb ass?

  • Listen to the audio you fuck and get a hearing you prick and fuck off!

  • nah ur just on crack pcastillotx

  • I agree with 1997!

  • love it!

  • I'd like to retract my previous statement and apologize for taking something at face value when you guys obviously know more about this stuff than me.I listen mostly to German industrial rock anyhow.....whoops.

  • I agree with Skibz778... This Is a beautiful mixture of a lot generes... it sounds so sweet but with a incredible sound of the 90's even its a 40's swing like ones joe pass write at that time...

  • Why does everyone keep talking about the "90's"?

This is a tribute band to the "Swing" and prohibition era of the 1940's.God....read a fucking history book for once.

  • CPD never intended to revive "authentic" swing: 'Zoot' is in itself a mixture of rock and swing, while their other work experimented with funk, ska, rockabilly, etc.. They were attempting to create something new rather than cater to the banal, gimmicky "good ol' fashioned swingin' fun!" image/sound that bands like Brian Setzer and BBVD perpetuated.

    It's a 90s song by a 90s band in a 90s fashion. Show some manners.

  • Na they're right. The late 90's. This is one of my favorite songs.

  • yeah this is from the 90's, either u were on acid or a baby to not remember that.

  • nope i beleive this came out in the mid 90's like 93 or 94 i wanna say

  • RIOT!

  • steve perry's voice is absolutely perfect for this style of music! he's a vocal master in my opinion.

  • i have mastered this song on my alto saxophone. this song is amazing! i just really wish music like this was still as huge as it was like back in the 50's. if anyone knows or has any song of swing, plz, send me a message! thnx!!! XD

  • love you raspberry..

    ;-]

  • Heh, I love me the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. I used to know only this song, but their whole album is pretty awesome and worth a listen. I don't know too much about the genre as a whole, but it just seems like they are having a lot more fun than your average band.

  • Then I suggest you check out their other five albums...they do a LOT more than just swing, let me tell ya...

  • I LOVE the singer's suit!

  • I love teh drumming.

  • This video's all Nine Inch Nails kinds of creepy!

    Love me this song though!

  • especially at 1:15... sheesh

  • Yep, that's even worse than the clown!

  • I like these video and the other version but there are parts of this that give me the creeps

  • You mean like at 0:42? lol

  • That's the charm of it! You don't see Brian Setzer putting vampires, evil clowns and guys licking feet in *his* videos.

  • Yeah, I actually like the

alternate (normal) version of the clip better.

  • the zoot suit come in a lot of colors there beautiful suit and the other way you can call them are pahocos too

  • Love this SONG so MUCH!!

  • i godda play that song for my marching band this year it sounds ok but thats cause i go to a small skool this is accualy a good song

  • i like this song! it's awesome! cool video ^^

  • just the band name 'Cherry Poppin Daddies' makes this song 8/10 by default...

  • This was the song my father used to teach me about swing music! Oh, we used dance to this soooooo much! There is actual video proof of us dancing to it at my cousin's wedding. I'm out of breath just listening to it!

  • This "swing" was awesome at the time and is still really catchy today. I love it when I find a chick who really knows how to swing dance

  • So this is what Weird Al was referencing with his song "Grape Fruit Diet"!

  • i love this song!! i wanna swing dance to this so badly but i need a partner=[

  • i love this song im dancing to it today!

  • I wish I could dance like that... that would be so much fun...

  • This is Cherry Poppin' Daddies

them and a few other bands, during the late 90s, were involved in a swing revival.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Royal Crown Revue, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, the Lucky Strikes, Steve Lucky & The Rhumba Bums Featuring Miss Carmen Getit and Brian Setzer were some of the band were was in the revival

  • The Daddies actually formed in the late 80s and played a variety of styles: swing, rock, metal, rockabilly, punk....they were never really part of the swing revival, but just happened to get sucked into it when it came about in the late 90s.

Unfortunately, their record label only marketed them as a "swing band" instead of what they really were and wanted nothing to do with the swing revival at all (the Squirrel Nut Zippers did the same thing as well).

  • hahahaha.

you know, i love this song but i wish i could give you a thumbs up for that comment.

  • this is cool i remember playing for my jazz band at my school this is gangster lol

  • you seem to be fairly critical, but where is YOUR recording contract?

  • I think you're wrong, they're quite good. You can suck my nuts.

  • Wow.. this is such a rip off of the original video by director Isaac Camner. It was sooo much better.

  • I saw them at Roseland in NYC in I guess 1999 or 2000. Tons of fun.

  • The music video is very creative. But I love the song more!

  • you haters or idiots.

if they "went back the way they came,"

    1. why'd you listen and watch?

    2. explain big bad voodoo daddy, cherry poppin daddies, squirrel nut zippers....

the era rocked and any reminder is a kick in the ass to you.

  • So cool! This reminds me of pink panther kind of... That real mysterious feel... My marching band using this, In the Mood, & Sing Sing Sing for fall 2008.

  • CLASSIC
