You want to hear bad English dubbing? Watch One Piece in English, watch Naruto in English and even then Sasuke/Naruto sound better in English IMO. Watch Bleach, and then, Ichigo and Grimmjow and Kenpachi sound better in English IMO. At the very least, I don't see the point about complaining about a dub when it's a dub video in the first place, it's not like dub viewers are going on subbed videos and saying the Japanese is terrible. But it's a second language to us, we're not so cynical.

the gurren lagann dubs are actually pretty good, in comparison to other voiceactors dubbing, but think about it. Even if this Kamina doesn't do it that well, imagine ANYONE who could do Kamina right. Its not a voiceactor problem, its a translation problem. The Japanese language allows for much more emotion and yelling sounds alot more forced and energetic compared to english. He's just a really, REALLY hard character to voice in english XD. the other chars i think are fine, i actually like yokos

@sharingan133 its actually pretty simple, as english speakers, we are very attuned to the language and the ups and downs of how other people speak it, that is too say, while the epic is there the super over done haminess (not the good kind) comes through as well, when you watch things in japanese, you arent attuned to the language so all you know is the epic (in the sub) and a foreign voice to go with it (so you cant tell whether its good over super weird)

I'm disappointed by Kamina's voice too. As Jenesix said, the English dub voice just lacks the badass and raw quality that we come to expect from such a character. His English voice is just too tame to handle him.

BUT, that does not mean that the dub itself is crappy. From what I've seen, it is a very good dub. I like Simon's voice a lot. Just because people moan about a specific character's voice doesn't mean that the dub overall is bad.

Well, that could be possible, since the first time I even heard Kamina's English voice was a week ago, and I've already finished the series. But I still think that I would prefer listening to the Japanese voice rather than the English one. Kyle Herbert doesn't do a bad job, he just doesn't have a strong, raw enough voice to handle Kamina's personality, in my opinion. Katsuyuki Konishi does a better job for my ears. ^^

What are you on about? Any dub not handled by 4Kids is faithful to the original; if anything, the dub script flows better than the subtitles. Also, censorship only applies to TV, because the FCC would throw a hissy fit otherwise. The dubbers adapt it faithfully but when it comes to broadcasting, they're FORCED to edit it, otherwise it wouldn't be aired.

I've got no problem if you prefer subs over dubs; both are flawed in their own ways; but the whole dumbing down argument is outdated.

Also, they're not doing this for the pay, because an actor's fee is crap unless you're an A-lister, and even worse if you're a voice actor. They do it because they love acting.
