While I applaud David's activism and efforts in this area, it's interesting that the argument of source was never brought up - why are we using PET bottles AT ALL? Why are we producing plastic bottles at all? Glass is recyclable and not toxic. Bottled water is no better than tap unless its distilled and then it is missing vital minerals. If they would stop poisoning the public water supply with fluoride and treat it with chlorine dioxide, people could use the tap water they pay for. It , could be put in a single reusable non toxic sports bottle if need be and then we wouldn’t have all of the plastic bottles to contend with.

They put dry ice into two liter bottles. Two guys from the town I live in got thrown in jail for doing that. Accused of making dry ice bombs, their bail was set at $1,000,000 each. The bottles they were found with containing pressure from the dry ice had not exploded. Somebody call homeland security and NORAD and have them scramble some F-16's ASAFP!

While I LOVE the idea of making proper use of something as stupid as a pop bottle, I'm having a REAL hard time believin this boat is gonna get anywhere NEAR Austrailia unless they put it on the deck of a bigger boat. This thing is gonna get MUNCHED in a seaway and I would advise any crew on this boat to make SURE there is a support craft, large enuf to support everyone, no more than 1km away at all times!
