Chameleons change colour very slowly, and most dont change to blend in to the their backround. Mostly colour change is used to indicate mood, similarly to how a dog uses its tail

i don't know anything about chameleons, so i have to ask: was the color change the fact that it got dots all over him? i thought he was gonna full on change colors...

@bepgirl yeah, they don't actually change all sorts of colors like you'd think. some species are naturally more vibrant colors, but they don't turn red to blend with red, yellow with yellow, blue with blue, etc. they have a pretty limited spectrum of colors they can change. mostly yellows, greens and browns.

@bepgirl yes, that was the color change. i have heard that there are 1 or 2 species of chameleon that do actually change to match background, but that is 1 or 2 out of hundreds. the specific color change shown on this veiled chameleon is stress. The "myth" that chameleons change color to match their environment came from 2 things.

1. They naturally match their environment

2. Their skin color does change.

Those 2 things made people believe that they can change their skin color to match things

It's so cute! I think it is the way that it walks that is so cute. I wish I could have a pet chameleon, but I don't know if they bite or can hurt you in any way.

@ColourH3AR7 it depends on the chameleon. it's the luck of the draw with their temper. if you get them young and raise them well, and treat them well, and get them used to being handled, chances are the chameleon won't be volatile at all. i did that with my chameleon, and she chills with me wherever i go.
