This forgets the fact that what calls itself "China" and is understood as such internationally is a communist-party governed totalitarian state with statistical living standards comparable to the ones of middle age.

There are lots of Taiwanese who agree that since Taiwan is the Republic of China Taiwan is China. My family was prominant in the Kuomintang. Many Taiwanese including me agree respectfully that Taiwan is part of China.

This forgets the fact that what calls itself "China" and is understood as such internationally is a communist-party governed totalitarian state with statistical living standards comparable to the ones of middle age.
If you want to give up your land to such, you're probably giving up what your family was fighting for with KMT (they didn't like communists, did they?)
As an outside observer, I think Taiwan would do better at the moment if they keep their distance from Chinese hegemony.

That's becuase "American" or "Australian" are only a NATIONALITY, even if they inherit English or other European cultures and traditions, their ethnicity will never Change, a nationality is far different from ethnicity or something else and most of the population from Taiwan are Han-Chinese who came from China, their governement came and originated in China, their script comes from China, most of their dialects and their official language came from China etc.

@BAIYUE1 Wrong..it wouldn't matter what language was spoken in Taiwan..even if they decided to make english the national language China would still object to Taiwan being part of the UN as they see Taiwan as a province of China. Taiwan is not and has never been a province of China. Fact is if China didn't have nukes then Taiwan would be in the UN. Taiwan's exclusion from the UN is purely to pacify China and keep them in line on nuclear issues.

Most of the early Australians were irish and at one point Australia was actually known as New Holland due to a number of dutch explorers. Add the fact that the french,spanish and dutch were in America before the english and you can clearly see many countries have diverse histories and are not simply the sum of their "ancestors".
