  • 3:33 and everybody goes AHHHH!!..:D

  • Probably the best thing about that movie was the music.

  • licence to kill awesome music ,,highlander,,robin hood ,probably the best film composer ever lived..........................

    stunning incidental music

  • Most definitely not the greatest, not even close.

  • REST IN PEACE BIG HOLY MICHAEL!!!!!!!

  • God rest your soul MK, what an amazing human being, such an inspiration

  • Genius.

  • I don't think so... every kind of music can be as beautiful as this score when it is well done. But Michael Kamen did it so well so that seems perfect, almost unbeatable in large compositions of our time. (sorry for my English, I'm French...)

  • pop culture like bryan adams destroys the very essence of music, the essence that brings the emotion and brings tears, no words are necessary when you composed a beautiful melody, an orchestra of over 100 musicians playing a theme composed by a genius is perfection along with the film images, there is no pop culture than this feeling. kamen with his music will be here forever

  • seriously wish i'd had the chance to meet or know him. one of the best film composers, definitely.

  • @originstories I did actually know him personally, my father was a friend of his and we met several times when I was very young.I am still in my early twenties know but I have been to his house recently and all the gold records are casually hanging in the toilet of his notting hill house.

  • He was a wonderful writer and arranger. But the best ever, i dunno. I respect him especially since dead. But the best? Big big statement.

  • Anyone else hears that this obviously is the Bryan Adams - Everything I do I do it for you tune or whatever it's name is? Haha, someone stole from the other.

  • @negolatak I have a feeling that it was Michael who wrote the melody. No offense to BA, but it seems like something MK would have done.

  • a great friend, person , musician, brilliant is an underscore.

  • Great guy. He writes such full and sensitive music on top of that.

  • This video makes it seem like he wrote something brilliant, but he's just orchestrated something that was already written.

  • Michael Kamen's score to Prince of Thieves was the pinnacle moment in my life at the movie theater that afternoon where I decided to be a film composer.

  • 3:54 Got to be taken seriously - 'Damn right!' Music is magic....

  • probably dont know his name? ...what a shame...who dont know him so a great man and his unique music!

  • He was a musical genius, from his days in Juilliard , thru the New York Rock and Roll Ensemble days, to his career as a composer and arranger for movies. A very accomplished oboist as well. Plus, an interesting, complicated, nice guy.

  • I miss the phenomenal music of Michael but it's as they say: only the good die young.

  • Michael Kamen was so underrated !

By the way, does anyone know who did the voice over?

  • I dont think we need to argue who wrote what, its well known that Kamen was a hugely talented composer and Bryan Adams is a talented songwriter.

Thing is that writing for orchestra is different and thats I'm sure where Kamen's talent came into play, whether he wrote the original notes or not.

  • Damn it's a great tragedy for movie music, first Jerry Goldsmith and then Michael Kamen, i will kill myself if a Hans Zimmer will die ! (hope it'll be a loong time before that happens)

  • I love his work the New Moon In The Old Moons Arms. He was always one of my favorite modern day composers.

  • Such a loss...

  • My problem is trying to find a VHS machine!

  • I worked on this session with three of my best mates. We were stage setup hands on this and setup everything you see on the scoring stage while this session was being recorded. I have video of all this which I'll post when I get it transfered off the VHS tapes. A wonderful experience. which I will never forget.

  • Is it just me or does portions of this score pop up everywhere?? I seem to remember hearing it during various movie previews and when production company logos are shown. It is, by far, one of my favorite movie scores. It's so moving and emotional. One of the reasons why I love this movie so much (cuz it's not because Kevin does a great job acting! LOL)

  • Sad that he is gone what he did with MetallicA is extremely cool.

  • What a brilliant composer. These guys are so "unsung" in favor of pop artist tripe.

Can you believe that Bryan Adams and Mutt Lang harrassed Michael Kamen over this music, claiming that THEY "wrote" the song, and demanding more and more royalties???

After all the genius work Kamen put into it, that's how pop stars treat him... SHAME!

  • You said it so correctly. Why are the modern composers so underrated and ignored? These men should be listened to and honored.

  • Hold on a second. What Kamen did with the song was truly amazing, moving and wonderful however, Bryan Adams and Mutt Lange WROTE the music. In a court of law, they would be entitled to royalties from what Kamen did. Imagine you wrote something, it is used in a movie, and someone changes it and takes credit for it. Feel the same way? Would you not want the royalties due to you for every use of that song? I would.

  • NOT TRUE... Michael Kamen was a music composer and he wrote the MUSIC for the whole film, including the main theme and song melody.

Bryan Adams and Mutt Lange wrote those crappy lyrics... after being handed a gorgeous melody on a silver platter.

Adams and Lange were all pissed off when Kamen refused to be bullied by their corporate lawyers, demanding a bigger cut.

Then in true rock and roll "asshole" style, they had a donkey delivered to Kamen just to upset him.

    Yeah... nice guys...

  • Upon further review, the penalty has been removed! lol Bloggerjoe is correct, and I am wrong. Kamen wrote the melody, Bryan and Mutt added to it, added lyrics(not crappy, a truly lovely song imo) and if they harrassed Kamen, deserve a shot to the nutz

  • LOL... such humility is rare on youtube and I commend you for it, good sir.

We'll have to differ on the quality of lyrics from Messrs. Adams and Lange.

Bryan Adams was never one to show mastery of language arts. Who can forget such lyrical "gems" as "I need somebody... Everybody needs somebody..." Or those endless "songwriting 101" rhymes like "tonight, all right, stars are bright, lie for you, die for you, try for you, blah..."

And don't get me started on Mr. "Pour Some Sugar On Me" Lange...

  • Not. Michael Kamen WROTE the music, only the music.

  • Comment removed

  • Robert John "Mutt" Lange is a lyricst. Michael Kamen and Bryan Adams are music composers.

Lange WROTE the lyrics. Kamen and Adams WROTE the music.

  • @bloggerjoe It's a business dude. Same shit goes on in all industries. These guys are in it for the money just as much as the love.

  • @bloggerjoe right, people are shit. but it's also shit to say ''These guys are so "unsung" in favor of pop artist tripe''. michael kamen PWNS john ''by the number heartstring pulling schmaltz'' williams

  • @bloggerjoe REALLY?? I didn't know that.

  • @bloggerjoe Pop music sucks compared to film score music - THE greatest kind of music ever.

  • this is pretty cool. is that Sam Neill narrating?

  • Pierce Brosnan.

  • I miss him, loads.

  • As do I. A light, a talent put out far too soon. Did you know him personally?

  • This is brilliant, Thank you so much for posting this, I'm going to use it in a music lesson to teach my class about film scores

  • Michael Kamen was truly a musical genius as well as the most prolific composer in modern times but also a kind friend and a dedicated husband and father. His music is undoubtedly the food of love :-)

  • Greatest ever to live? Not in my opinion but a true great and genius of music and emotion.

    He will be missed.

  • Rest In Peace brotha Kamen. I was a fan of yours all due in part of the orchestral deal you did with Metallica. R.I.P. Michael Kamen.

  • A lot of the classical soundtrack plays in EXTREMELY well with the highs and lows and high action and slow points and even falling and rising action of the plot of good films so trying to find out how it syncs up so well. and this answered that.

  • This is exactly what I was seeking to help answer my question of "how do directors and composers synchronize music with the falling/rising action, highs and lows of plot and action". Kamen seems awesome too.

  • The music and the movie still gives me chills!

    RIP Michael Kamen

  • seemed like a real stand up chap. rip.

  • What a warm and nice person he was.

    Rest in Piece Michael.

  • A magical, warm person. His presence lit up a room like no other....

  • haha 3.28, hes so happy and proud of his music

    RIP

  • Pierce Brosnan narrator?

  • It bloody seems so, yes. wth?

  • Yes, it's him. The footage is taken from a documentary shown on American television the night before the premiere of Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.

  • RIP

  • I deliverd his mail for years, whilst he was living in london, most days i would see him walking his dog, and he would allways stop to say hello,"Class", a real nice guy, the world is lonely without him, rest in peace Mr Kamen (Michael)

  • maestro...

  • Wonderful.. Rest in peace Michael..

  • My respect to Michael Kamen.. May he rest in peace!

Look up "Band of Brothers" -- he wrote the music for this series and it's absolutely amazing!

  • yes, he's one of my favorties, DIE HARD has always been one of my favorites

I love that "that's as close as i'll ever get to her" what a cool guy

  • dam straight, mary elizabath mastrantonio's fuken hot man rofl

  • Brilliant! One of the greatest composers of our time.

  • Mitico

  • What an unbelievalbe talent he was. Mr.Holland's Opus remains among my favorites as does Robin Hood.

  • Actually the performance is excellent. What you're hearing was recorded by a video camera, which doesn't capture the performance and overall blend very well.

Session musicians never see the music they are going to record until the day of the recording. They have to sight-read, and are expected to play it through perfectly the first time (which they usually do). Can you do that?

  • well said

  • Blah Blah Blah. Look come on, the "can you do that" argument holds no water with me or anyone. All I said was that the overture (on CD at least) was performed at 40% energy and speed which this great riproaring fanfare requires. Alot of orchestras play perfect in the score, like the London Symphony Orchestra and the Hollywood Studio Symphony, but not this one? You can tell where the mistakes happen by the musicians. I know they are human, but they could have played it again and corrected it.

  • @PizzaGolf2003 Yeas i can...but these are professionels its their job!

  • amazing---can anyone tell me if the cue featured from 3:20 on is anywhere on the soundtrack?

  • What a genius, RIP

  • He was a genious. This is my favorite soundtrack. R.I.P.

  • Great.

  • ♥♥♥♥♥/from Elisabeth.

  • Michael... Szkoda, że nie żyje POKÓJ JEGO DUSZY

  • R.I.P LEGEND

  • what a beautful film score, ST from ohio

  • i had the privilige of meeting michael and getting to know him. a gentler, more luminous soul you will never meet. we lost someone of great depth, light, an joy when he departed. long live his memory!

all the best and then some,

    the sometimes why

  • This movie's score was extraordinary! As a kid, falling in love with this couple and this movie, I could never really put a finger on why I loved it so much. Now I know, that the sound and melody attached to any image can either make it or break it. My fave movie ever, even till this day :-) Long live Kamen's legacy... R.I.P.

  • gran musico y compositor

  • another god..hail kamen and RIP

  • Bless his soul. He touched a lot of people with his music. I really love this score. Thanks for uploading.

  • RIP Michael Kamen (1948-2003)

I loved his work on S&M with Metallica.

He was, and will always be, a great genius...

  • Wow, this has reminded how good the music was on that movie. Kamen was a wonderful man, so sad he is no longer with us.

  • Michael Kamen was a wonderful Person and Composer! He is greatly missed.

  • very true

  • R.I.P Kamen.

  • He was instumental (no pun intended) in getting the Metallica symphony performance off the ground as well.

  • Cool Vid!! I LOVE the score from this movie!!!!
