I am making a patio in my garden for general use.
It seems to me there are two techniques of laying the slabs...
1. Laying slabs on a dry mix of sharp sand and cement.
2. Laying slabs on a wet Mortar bed.
I would like to use the second technique of a wet mortar bed, and want to know weather to use sharp sand or builders sand for this mortar mix? and at what ratio?
Hi Monkey, we appreciate you have taken the time to watch our video's regarding paving.
Obviously, you are an experienced paver layer also, and I am sure you have some differing methods to the trades person featured in our guides. However, as you are professional these guides are not intended for you rather for the average DIY person looking to do some work at home and are intended as a guide only.
We would also appriciate if you could use appropriate and clean language in your comments.

@hollyg8508
Personally i use grit sand to lay.
Also I have seen on youtube the manufacturer "MARSHALLS" with a how to video were they use a solid bed of mortar to lay the paviours on .
Trust me that is not a recommended way to lay flags especially if your new .
The problem is that once you try to lay the second flag the mortar will push up your previously laid flag.
Easiest is to spot them ,one at each corner and one in middle .30 years experience says so lol.
