In the UK, the equivalent of Orientation is "Freshers week", and I can totally relate about the pushy clubs and societies - I just make as quick a tour of the room as possible to snatch myself some of the free booty. Free pens, diaries and triple-nibbed highlighters (oh my!) are totally worth saying "No sorry, I'm really not interested in joining the Science Fiction and Fantasy society" a few times. :D
How long have you been playing for? I always hung out with the band, but never played anything. *I* think there should be a chair for electric guitar next to first violin, but my school didn't feel the same...
best part of orientation for me was that my roommate went and shacked up with her boyfriend. oh yeah! room to myself :)

since I was 9...so almost 10 years! (wow, that's weird to think about)
haha, i think the only time we used an electric guitar at our school was in the jazz band (definitely not in orchestra)
