If the entire building weighed 500,000 tons, and the area impacted was even 1/4 of the building, (and it was a lot less than that)then it weighed 125 thousand tons. 89 times the weight of the plane. It looked like a firework or a rocket end had detached come out from the other side of the building, if you watch this video in slow motion, you'll see that there is a spark or a flame, just as the plane hits.... Also the plane did not weigh more than the area impacted. Do some calculations. If the entire building weighed 500,000 tons, and the area impacted was even 1/4 of the building, (and it was a lot less than that)then it weighed 125 thousand tons. 89 times the weight of the plane. Simply put that means the force was equal on both the plane and the building. The plane hit the building and the building hit the plane. However the steel building because of its mass was more able to withstand the impact.
