  • Australian pilots on exchange with the english army loved it,despite the fact they flew blackhawks back home, the "Pocket Rocket" was a sought after job the thing about this show is it misses the fact on the hub and transmission that made the lynx the first chopper to loop .

  • This is so biased woah we're americans so all our choppers are in the top 5

  • @LCBarnett95 yep pretty much...

  • So the american equivalent of this (Black Hawk) is No.2 and top 5 are all americans... Mostly because they proved useless in vietnam. They had a gazillion helicopters over there and it didn't make a difference. How are they ranked so high then? How are loosing choppers in top 5?

  • you british created a cool helicopter and a fearsome warrior a fan from russia

  • The Lynx is the mutt's.

  • The Lynx is the mutt's.

  • What I'm from the US how did that only get 8th it can carry 8 TOW missiles for god sake I don't know if any of you have seen what a TOW can do to soviet/Russian armor let's just say it does alot I would want a Lynx on my side in a fire fight not a black hawk no offense US but Britian nailed this one!

  • @ak907jk

never mind tow or hellfire, a crv7 guided rocket can penetrate a T72 tank and come out the other side and it can carry 24 of them.

  • Sweet

  • the american guy doesnt know what we use then. it doesnt do most of our heavy lifting

  • those brits think their lynx is cool, but lets see it go up against our UH-60

  • @helicopterwar247 I like the lynx, it's fast. But i'd still pick the UH-60 any day, that's why the Brits use it. The Lynx is more like a sports car. the UH-60 is more like a pickup track, more uses, and far more practical.

  • westland lynx is a tough versatile helicopter of the british army you british are one of the best chopper makers :) from russia respects to the United Kingdom

  • erm survive anything mother nature throws at it lynx will throw it back wow lets throw tsunami and tornados see how it throw it back

  • i disagree, this should at least be #5, cayuse deserves #8.this really is the exact british version of uh 1 Iroquois, this might even be considered better than the iroquois actually.

    list should be. 1 apache, 2 blackhawk, 3. lynx, 4 cobra, 5 iroquois, 6. chinook, 7. hind, 8. cayuse, 9. bell 47 (currently the TH-55? for the army i think) 10. FA223

  • given you dont add other helos that should be on this list (oh 58d kiowa warrior which i'd place at about 6)

  • @Sharod101 are u an expert? In the #10 helo, the intro said this was listed by the top experts in the world.

  • @ZeroOmega529 doesn't take an expert to realize a fault. everyones going to have a different idea on what the line up should be, and i'm expert enough to say that not every one of there helicopters received a proper review.

and they left out some of the better helicopters too, the CH-53 Super Stallion, the VF-22 Osprey, and the OH-58 Kiowa.

not to say these are bad helicopters, they did their jobs pretty damn well, but some, like the Sioux were more successful from an innovation standpoint.

  • @Sharod101 The V-22 isn't quite a helicopter, and it hasn't been proven in any sort of way. I think they're going mostly off of combat use and such.

  • @ZeroOmega529. all yanks i supose

  • the lynx is probobley the best helicoptet EVER they said its the british version of the us blackhawk no the lynx was out 12 years before the blackhawk thes guys no crap about choppers

  • what a great chopper also with fast impressive speed britain rocks and the engineer rocks greetings form Russia

  • very underrated chopper in my book...easily a TOP 5 machine on this list, yet another retarded Discovey list this is

  • lol D.O logo LYNX rofl fail

  • All these Discovery channel top 10s are utter, utter shit! Treat with a pinch of salt.

  • @marks9591 they sent them back because the rotor blades suffered huge failures, the metal blades would be eroded by the sand in the desert, and had to have rubber tips to cut through the sand. And then when they got back to the UK they couldnt fly with rubber tips because they were too heavy in the rain. making it very expensive to use. its the same with the sea king and merlin.

  • were is number 9?

  • low innovation!

erm, 1st chopper with a rigid titainuim rotor head.

  • @cirian75 Its compared to the others.

  • why is this low on fear factor? they never mentioned that, all those rockets, tow missiles and now hellfire as well. this should be up higher.

  • I live next to where they make it =)

  • this helicopter is too low on the list.

  • The Westland Lynx is a very manoeuvrable and agile helicopter which can perform loops and rolls.

  • i love the helikopter

  • The new one's got 3 engines I'm told... I wonder how fast it'll go then?

  • Probably slightly slower if anything. The problem is not the engine, but how close the rotor blade tips get to Mach 1. The third engine will probably be used like the Merlin as a failsafe if one or even two other engines fail.

  • The new Lynx (AW159 or Wildcat) is still only twin engined, they've just been updated to T800's as std (replacing the RR Gem's).

  • I think the guy says "the UH-1 n' the blackhawk" but i could be wrong

  • I just odered one...

  • Awesome helicopter. Do the AAC or Fleet Air Arm still operate the Lynx Ah7 TOW? Or has it been scrapped - will there be a land attack Future Lynx?

  • the guy is wrong..... UH-1 is definitley the blackhawk.... It's the UH-60 not the UH-1....XD

  • The Lynx is the best helicopter ever

  • lynx set the world record at 249mph

  • the world record is 340 not 249mph

  • What helicopter are you referring to? The lynx has held the record since '86... The only helicopter that I know of that could go faster in the future is the Sikorsky x2.

  • well the v22 osprey can go faster, but it's a hybrid plane copter so i don't know if it counts

  • Wronf record. In 1966 a huey set 313 mph. Where do they get their numbers? Sometimes the specs are off. If the lynx can carry a harpoon missle, then it's load limit is not 2000 lbs.

  • @sabbothbitch

Your talking shite mate, Lynx's record still stands today, look it up.

It doesn't carry Harpoon missiles, it uses a harpoon deck-lock system to grab a ships deck, try and pay attention...

  • the world record is 249mph or 340 in kilometres!

  • 340mph is not possible in a helicopter, look up "retreating blade stall" to find out why.

  • He said 340Kmph you thick prick! The Lynx should be about 3-6 not 8. With all the equipment it can have. Torps, Sea skimming missles, Exocets, Sidewinders, Anti-Tank and many, many more!! WHY 8 WHYY???

  • Who is the putz at 1:25 and why should I care? He looks perpetually cross eyed, its hard to take anything he says seriously.

  • I totally agree. He looks like someone they picked up off the street

  • did he just say:

    UH-1 Black Hawk

    he just said UH-1 BlackHawk.....

    wtf

  • uh-1 and the blackhawk

  • ...but there was no "and"

  • he says it really fast, it sounds like the uh-1nthebackhawk

  • both are still really awesome helicopters

  • last saturday i got a ride in a uh-60

  • kick ass

  • loud as hell

  • Wait a minute... I think I've ridden in one of these at Biggin Hill Airshow... although it might've been something else...

  • Finally a British (I Think) Helicopter!

    (We use it, anyway...)

  • Yes, it is a British helicopter.

  • deffinately underarated and yes it does resemble a huey as appearance goes, but as far as mission goes it is much closer to a blackhawk.

agility and speed haven't been taken into account for the survivability but theese things aren't that accurate anyway, it's just based on popular opinion

  • also speed is wrong there, it's deffinately in the 200mph area.

  • This helicopter is the British Black hawk, this thing is crazy! too bad the Blackhawk isnt part of this list.

  • Yea it is, the BlackHawk is at number 2.

  • yah it is, no. 2

  • i should just remove my comment somehow i found that out a long time ago.

  • ha ha ha. Just a Novice mistake we all make

  • I've seen one of them and just like I thought they are very elegant birds I think.

  • Most helicopters have Electronic counter measures against missiles. However, if it does get hit by a missile, no helicopter can survive that.

  • What a stupid question. What helicopter these days survive a direct hit by a missile........ wow.

  • Well no shit, like terrorists are gonna care so much about heat signatures, they don't have big ass heat seeking missiles, they got a whole shitload of rpgs, ever watch Blackhawk Down? Yeah those helis sure survived aint it dumbass.

  • they have stingers to

    hurrrrr

  • you're judging you're view on war on a propaganda filled film?

  • Yes, terrorist do have stinger missiles, contrary to what you may beleive.

  • haha seriously!

  • @VlexoNetwork Thiere are some

  • @VlexoNetwork scrath that i meant rpg hits

  • @VlexoNetwork none

  • what can?

  • the Mi-28 Havoc can go 300mph

  • if it hasnt seen real combat, it dosent count...russians use theyr weapons to kill helpless civilians

  • They just downgraded it's points for innovation so that it won't be top dog over the apache.

Not very innovative....look at it's potential for multitasking and multirole!

    Great great helicopter

  • they have completely underestermated this helicopter

  • what the lynx hasnt got adverage survivability id like to see other helicopters attack ship and subs like this an be the victor nearly all the time

  • this has seriously got to be the most underrated helicopter ever...deserves much more credit than they give it here

  • THIS IS RAD, I LUV IT THANX

  • never heard of this one

  • isnt rolls royce a car???

  • the rolls royce is a big company. rols royce motors is a divison of the company. they make engines ans stuff for militaries

  • moron

  • It's a flying coffin!

  • i think it can also make a lope to i saw it in an air show once

  • Yeah, a British Huey. Its sweet nonetheless. I'd fly it.

  • i love those shows plz get some more of that stuff 5 stars

  • Love these series, thanks for posting.

  • excuse me, which is the series name? I look for episodes
