Awesome AMV btw ... I thought the ending was done better with the shorter version though, with the final shot of Guts walking away from the OP. As it is the new ending is kinda abrupt. Enjoy the added footage tho!

@kingprimeKANG - Worst ending for the toons involved, maybe ... for pure hardcore shock value there's few that can top it. Especially since the final episode has to happen to bring us full circle to the 1st.

My main gripe is the characters they cut. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I kinda enjoy Puck. :P And without Skull Knight, there's nobody to save Guts at the end of the anime from being raped to death right next to Casca.

Berserk's ending isn't the end. It's the beginning ...

Remember, the anime was only one small section of the manga.The rest is Guts being, well, guts. They did do a good job of evolving a character that was borderline a force of nature more than a human being. And, much like Black Lagoon, there aren't really good guys in this series. Just protagonists and anatgonists

1. It actually followed the manga pretty well.

2. It was conclusive, if it had no manga it still woulda have been cool. Just because its not a happy ending doesnt mean its not a good ending.

3. Ask most people and the anime actually encouraged them to read the manga, most other animes dont really make you care.

3 is correct though, the anime only covered a small portion of the manga, so it's good that it can introduce them to the rest of the story.

When I watched it the first time years ago, before mass internet, I didnt know it had a manga and I actually appreciated the way it ended. It gave me an understanding that life is hard, and then you die. Freaking food anime dude, just reflect on it more, the manga is fucking awesome too, and if you like this, check out Claymore, its pretty good too.

The ending was terrible and inconclusive, "EVERYBODY DIED" is NOT an ending, it's like a writer dying halfway through writing a book. @bushwhacker2k To be fair, "rocks fall, everyone dies" is a staple of pissed off Dungeons and Dragons games masters. Regardless, everyone dying at the end is kind of lame, but viable, and can work if done work (Chrono Crusade). Not everyone is as obsessed with the good guy winning in the end as we Americans.

@AlaricRose I don't think being American has anything to do with it. The manga doesn't stop there, so why anyone would even call this an ending confuses me. Main characters dying isn't something new to me, but nothing in the story was concluded in the anime. Griffith's ambition was basically put on hold and just about everyone who could contribute died. If it had had some kind of relevance or continuum then I wouldn't argue but the anime was CANCELLED.
