You can recolor as long as you change the character a lot. Like, if you recolor Sonic, you can add some clothes, change his eye color, change his shoes and gloves, change his species, and change his spikes or add some hair.
Overall, you can use Sonic as a helper for your characters.
But coloring sonic one color and keeping his shoes, gloves, spikes, and eye color is just retarded.

Did I just see a recolor that is a cross between Sonic and Blaze?! My eyes officially hurt...
Not only that, but I would rather look at a crappily drawn ORIGINAL character than an LSD induced recolor. At least the one who drew theirs sat down and attempted to make their character original! It's like this if you want your character to stand out then you draw them. If you don't like to draw get someone else to do it, if it's not that important then dont think about.

... Erm... Isn't that just bad "Artwork"? I mean, for crying out loud, most people who do recolours use programs like Paint or Photoshop (Or in my case, GIMP)... I'll be honest, if they do a HAND-DRAWN Recolour, I'd actually give them some credit for the time they took to do it! Heh...

You know what I find funny about these recolor fans? They fiercely defend them against their "enemies," but they don't give any good reason on why they shouldn't be bashed. Recolors are bashed because they're unoriginal, it's plagerism, and it's a clear sign that they have no artistic talent and won't even try to practice drawing.

Oh gosh, a Bludshot the Hedegfraud fan? Obviously a dipshit fanboy though he only sounds slightly more adult-like than Bludshot but that's not saying much. Also him saying a shitty drawing is worse than a recolor is an insult. I am sure anyone's worst (yet original) drawing is better than any shitty recolor.
