I'm writing a paper about James Carter, so I've been listening to his music for about 48 of the last 72 hours. And yet, at that moment at 1:13, my body got jolted limp and my face hit the keyboard. After listening to SO MUCH of his music, somehow that stuff is still coming out of nowhere and dropping me cold. Unbelievable musical power.
For JC to be able to draw-in the young people like that is truely masterful. Rather than preach jazz to them with his horn (like some artist tend to do), he gave them a musical experience mixed with traditional, advent garde, and humor.

james carter is a good player. but he is annoying as fuck. just look at the looks on the other players faces, they are like "yay good for you, you can make your sax sound like a dying duck"
@ gettingyoungerone i never said he was if u paid attention and read u wouldve seen that instead of jumping to conclusions and i do play the saxophone and i do know what im talking about and i cant tell the difference apparently u cant cuz there is a bari in that group
@hazeleyes010xoxo The on the left with the black cap is playing the TENOR, not the baritone. Do you really play sax - if you do you should be able to tell the difference !
i play alto ♫ and bari, and well, i never really liked the bari until now..it sounds really awesome..not to metion how awesome the alto always sounds..hah
And James Carter is sick on his sax, at the end just using is teeth on his reed to get higher notes out of his sax, and even manage to get them in tune. Pure awesomeness.
I'm a big James Carter fan. I love his unpredictable, idiosyncratic style but I think that would have been heaps better if he'd toned it down by 10%! Am I on my own with this thought?
I really dont believe in toning it down any percent, even if it is an elementary class audience lol, im a rahsaan roland kirk fan an he pushed those boundaries repeatedly. This is my first time hearing these cats, where can i find more and do they have any albums? I love this shit!

He's a pure gimmick player. Don't get me wrong, he's got a great tone, and great style, but all his lines are gimmicks, he's not doing anything original with his improvisation, nor does it contain any real melodic substance. With all that being said, he's this an amazing and well practiced player, who I admittedly am light-years behind. I just don't desire to emulate him.
James Cartes maybe the best tenorI've seen in my life...... 2:38 - 3:23 pure circular breathing. Dam wow......i have no words to explain...how good he is....dammmmmm
WOW, that I call a virtuoso! Cool sound effects! He can sound like a crow, sound like crazy gulls and go up as high in scale as the last keys on the piano! AMAZING! Not really my taste of music or style, but COOL!

If you don't like it then why the hell have you listened to part 4.
Can't you just go away, leave us with an untarnished piece of art.

Bari Player- Yeah, I setup the beat and I'm a beast
Alto 1(closest to Carter)- Why am I here?
Alto 2- Oh yeah, well...
Tenor(Mr. James Carter)- Man, I can play...
Band as a whole- Out of this world, amazing!

Annoying when you have to play next to him, maybe. Otherwise, "fucking awesome" is a more appropriate description.

Hierarchy is as follows. Bari, tenor alto. Msybe bass first but to uncommon to place, soprano, I haven't heard them enough to place justifiably.
meatloversunite 3 years ago
you should hear this tenor play the soprano. it's beastly. He makes it sound like a tenor
