  • How's he doing now?

  • @redninja952 unfortunately I had to sell him I moved across country and the people I were with would not have wanted him in their house let alone a humongous cage haha.

  • @Shortstickman Aw, didn't that suck

  • that was it yawnig

  • Sounds like he ate a squeakie toy.

  • Looks like he's let out a nice exhale.

  • Consider the beardie's perspective; he's holding his breath if he's in water and has to swim then he's learning, still figuring out when and how long he has to hold his breath for. Watch his breathing mechanics. Pick him up out of the water, and you might notice that he might still be holding his breath even after being "magically pulled out of the water" (from his perspective), especially if he's scared. It's a big new world for him. That's all. Let him learn, and you'll learn in the process.

  • my beardie keep licking me is tht suppose to happen

  • mine does it too... every beardy does it... because the stop breathing if their nose is near the water... then they start breathing like "this" if the nose above the water....

  • oh mine does the same exact thing he gets dog hair or water in his throat and "coughs"

  • Were you on a CheckUp with him? because he looks like he was swallowing something maybe he had parasites?

  • My dragon does the same but only once and he has a closed mouth when Im bathing him O.o

  • stupid this happens when u dont dry ur beardie after taking him a bath. So what u do is take him to a vet. Taking him another bath wont help.

  • @milkarandy I never gave him bathes after he made that noise I am not dumb. So why don't you think before you speak thanks.

  • Yeah that sounds right. It was prob nothing to worry about but remember to leave him under basking light after bath for two hours or so. I myself have made an important note of this :)

  • Actually how is he doing now? Are your temps what they should be? When you bathe him make sure you leave him in the tank with basking light on for at least two hours after. It could be a respiratory infection caused with not doing this after bathing?

  • @jessiza1 he seems to be douing fine the ambient temperature should be around 32 degrees celcius (I think around 108F)

  • No probs mate! Pleased to help educate people about the dangers of calcium sand.

  • mine is doing the excact same thing do you have a dog he might getting dog hair in his throat

  • @xXcrazyalec40Xx I do not own or have a dog

  • Please dont EVER use calcium sand. It is extremely bad. If you have to use sand then use play sand which has been filtered and baked in the oven. Myself i would stick to using paper towels or newspaper. And also dont use a red light bulb at night as some people suggest - this is bad, it can affect their sleeping patterns. Use a heat emitter. It sounds like this beardie may be having problems because you have been housing him on calcium sand in the winter. This is why i hate it with passion!

  • @jessiza1 see, now this is information i was not privy too. Or rather not that i can recall hearing about, i will remove the calcium sand and use some other substrate.

his normal cage has tile as a substrate.

  • respiratory infection

  • they do that when they go in water :)

  • Hi. I was wondering how your bearded dragon is doing now? Did you take him to a vet? I am concerned for my own beardie because she is doing this same thing. Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

  • how is ur baby now?

My beardie did that a few times while basking... Which scared the crap out of me, but I heard it is normal...

    I don't know...

    help!

  • mine does the same thing after he gets out of the water!

  • Please do. Most illnesses when treated quickly heal up rather well. beardies are sensitive creatures but respond well to medical treatment.

  • yeah, nothing is more important then my guys health

  • i only posted here because i was in contact with some vets on a forum.

  • dont ask youtube go ask the vet.. i most deffently think its a respitory infection sounds horridle nooooo beardies do that on there own

  • hmm i have done some research from some people that are vets and other owners, i have been instructed that this could be him trying to asperate(sp?) some water and that it has simply gone down the wrong tube.

I am Definately keeping a close watch on him though to see if this is behaviour is repeated, so far i have yet to see this again.

  • that looks to me as if it is a respitory infection my beraded dragon had it to

  • you should take him to a reptile vet immediately.

this is usually a sign of various potentially fatal illnesses.

What kind of diet does he get, does he have UVB? what are the temperatures in his tank? what kind of substrate is he using? has he been dropped, fallen or otherwise had any kind of possible injury that you might not see on the surface. reptiles are rather sensitive to injury and illness.

  • he has a winter cage and a spring/summer/fall cage that he is in he has a solar glo lightbulb and his temps are usualy around 102 F

he has fallen before and the main tank is huge and has a tile substrate, but the winter one is calcium sand he is about 5 or 6 years old

  • again I suggest a vet visit.

  • thank you for your input, i will not take it lightly ill keep people that are interested updated on what happens.

  • @Shortstickman also I stopped using "night" bulbs a long time ago have been using ceramic heat emitters for quite some time now

  • @Shortstickman

SolarGlo? I have heard its not good for dragons :S

  • @Bibushka66 yes according to this person's finding in corolation with the company exo terra which i read a post on (I'll post a link to the article in the info bar) this would be true.
