his last name - Da Vinci, simply means "From Vinci".

it was common to have such last names as to describe the person.

could be a description of birth place - Da Vinci.

(The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe is the second in the Narnia series, like Angels and Demons) and so it kick-stars a possible franchise by opening up to the biggest fan-base possible, and then working from there.
