My oldest boy was a baby when I first heard this song in the Radio. My parents had a record with Emmett Miller singing this song in the mid 20s.

I read in Hank's bio that Rufus "Teetot" Payne, a local black man, taught young Hank how to play the blues on the street corners. When Hank became famous he recognized Rufus for his influence during a hometown celebration. Music breaks down all barriers, so cool.

Yes, Hank was born 9-17-1923.

Lovesick Blues was originally a "show tune," in fact.

I'll check out Emmett Miller's recording (if I can find it here or somewhere else).

I learned the song from Patsy Cline, even though I had heard Hank's earlier.
