If such distinction be beyond your intellectual capacity, little can be done except to wish you prosperity, good health, and long life. Churchill supported working with Stalin with great reservation. Strange alliances oft arise in wars, including the American Revolution. We were supported by a royal power, France, even though our country was born out of a hatred of royalty.

@anebt I actually agree with you! what is insulting is the post-war American re-write of history where they protray themselves as the cavalry, when they only became involved in response to Germany declaring war on them, when 59000 Europeans had been dying, daily, for almost 2.5 years. One of the other WW2 myths is "Britain fought alone." From the start, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa fought by our side, voluntarily. THEY really were the cavalry!

In the Pacific thearter, yeah. But apart from war supplies, etc, Britain did fight alone. Only the RAF stood in the way of the German air force gaining air superiority.

@Redcarpet01 Don't get me wrong - I am British, and I am incredibly proud of our track record in WW2. But I don't like to see countries who waded in right from the start, such as the Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders, being ignored, because they made a huge difference (not just in the Pacific). So much gets simplified or ignored by history. For example, did you know that Luxembourg - with an army of 800 men - actually declared war on Germany, and then took part in the Normandy landings?

@TheBelovedButterfly Not talking about the D-Day landings, but the Battle of Britain. Apart from some non-Brit pilots, it was the RAF composes of only a few hundred fighters that defended Britain in it's most dire period. No other airforce or navy was there. That is a fact.

Although it's interesting to see exactly what a mixed bag the pilots were (you can see the exact figures online.) The squadron with the highest kill were the Polish squadron - which is ironic now that BNP loons seem to think Poles are Untermenchen simply because they undercut plumbers etc when they are trying to rip off customers. They should say "thanks" instead.

I have to say, on the part which dealt with the British surrendering to the Japanese, there were pig-ignorant Americans sneering "epic fail the Brits". (Even though we'd been fighting on three fronts for more than 2 years.) But no Brit has said any such thing about the Americans surrendering to the Japanese (even though it was their first action, on one front only.) That shows CLASS!

And by the way, if you were "helping", you would have come into the war at the start - instead, you were actually attacked, and Nazi Germany declared war on you (not the other way around.) You only began fighting when it became YOUR war, too - not as a rescue mission. All kudos to those young Americans who died in Europe, but ours had been dying for twice as long.

Actually... it was an Allied team that developed the A-Bomb. Britain had to give all its technological secrets to the US via lend-lease. If the Brits hadn't been at war in Europe for 2 years prior to the US joining, the Germans would've been able to get all they needed from Sweden/Norway to develop an A-Bomb unfettered. The Allied success was just that - an Allied success.

Those Nip bastards were right about one thing. It is better to go down fighting than surrender! The Americans and Filipinos should have known that the fucking Jap bastards would send them on a long march because they were known cunts! Better to take out as many of the fuckers as possible and go down gloriously. It is a simple mindset to adopt: others are dying in the war. We know that. Why shouldn't we die, too! And take out as many of these cunts as we can along the way.

And if the Americans and Filipinos would not have surrendered, all 90,000 Americans would have died in that no-win situation. Instead, they surrendered and thousands were later liberated when Japan fell in 1945. Point being, they did the right thing by surrendering. Just like Poulus did the right thing when he surrendered to the Russians at Stalingrad.

It was not quite right that with America on Britain's side Britain could not lose. If the Germans had got the atomic bomb first Britain could certainly have lost. And America, too.

He wanted to stay there and would have but was given a direct order by the Roosevelt himself to get out of there. When the President of the United States gives a general or anyone a direct order, you follow it to the minute.

With that said, I think MacArthur was a great general in WWII but I think his popularity went to his head and he became very arrogant later on during the Korean War. He pushed for the U.S. to drop the bomb in Korea which, among other things, put him in the dog house with Truman. Truman did the right thing later
