@beardownchitown Hahaha yeah its different mindsets and paths to achieve the same goal. Marine Basic is very comprehensive becasue it needs to be, in the AF if you will be in situations similar to our marines they will teach you how to deal in different training past BMT. Like SERE school, and joint force training.
@junkmedic87 I am a Marine and you will never be the same as a Marine or do anything like i have done or my Fellow Devil Dogs. You are in the Air force and nothing like a Marine. You might get a paper cut if you are lucky in the AF!!!!!!

I was there at Lackland in August 1981. I remember those dorms! This video showed mostly the challenge course. We had class time too. And did dorm security guard, everyone took there turn. A drill instructor would come to the door and yell through it, trying to get you to let them in [breaching security]. The main difference I saw in this video was the attire. We had the solid "olive drab" military uniform back then.

@Busyseeker He was making sure the other guy was squared away. Your hood is supposed to be tucked into the mask a certain way. His wasn't and if his instructor would have seen it, they all could have gotten in trouble.
Ive yet to see a legit video of BMT. I remember making it "rain" in the day room. For all you guys leaving for bmt soon good luck and remember that basic is just the stepping stone. It continues over in tech school. I was over at shepard and have to say that i hated that place.

@Gadd08 i graduated in may 5th and i can tell look back now that bmt is not hard if you put your heart into it. PT sucks everyday just not up to par with the other branches. All attention to detail at every step i in everything you do. Email if you want to find out some more
Basic was hard.. No doubt.. I went through in 2007 and it was probably the hardest thing I had ever done. Been married for two weeks then I left for that and tech school.. Both took place at Lackland as I am Security Forces. But after about the 2nd week it got tolerable and I still have friends with whom I see and speak. God bless our troops and God bless all of you Airmen and future Airmen! Be proud of your Air Force! Doesnt matter if you're a cop like me, a pilot, a cook.. Be proud!

@NotxMustard If you want to work on planes, pick a job where you work on heavies like the cargo or refuelers. Fighter and bomber maintenance people normally work 10-14hr's a day in my experience, and I've been working on F-16s for the last 7+ years of my life. Basic training was cake when I went in, it's probably cake still, technical school was a complete waste of time. Welcome to the USAF..... Cannon 04-08, Kunsan 08-09, Spangdahlem 09-11.
@NotxMustard Just keeping you informed. In my experience a recruiter isn't going to tell you the full truth, just whatever makes the job sound nice. Their job is to get you to sigh on the dotted line, nothing more. If you DO go in, make sure you have the job you want garrenteed in writing, IN the contract, or you can spend several years of your life doing something you don't want to do. Just another heads up...
@NotxMustard Normally yes. You go into the DEP while you're waiting for one of the jobs on your wish list to become available. I've met people that were in the DEP for only a few weeks, and others that were in the DEP for several months. I was one of the unlucky people because I was in the DEP program for over 6 months waiting for one of my jobs to become available. It all just depends on what jobs you're waiting on I guess.
@PrideT2D It depends on your situation. If you have the funds or a scholarship to go to college, then I'd recommend it. Go in, get a degree, and if you're still interesting then join up as an officer. If you don't have the money or a scholarship out of high school, the military will at least give you the opportunity to go to school and pay for most, if not all of college. The military will train you in whatever job you choose, so even if you get out you'll have a job skill as a civilian.
@PrideT2D if you join as active duty, the MGI Bill will cover your tuition 100%. You can get into any school in the world for free. I know a lot of people in my squadron that regret going to college first, because it only put them in debt. Personally, I graduated high school a month before shipping off to basic.

@Gadd08 i graduated in may 5th and i can tell look back now that bmt is not hard if you put your heart into it. PT sucks everyday just not up to par with the other branches. All attention to detail at every step i in everything you do. Email if you want to find out some more

Basic was hard.. No doubt.. I went through in 2007 and it was probably the hardest thing I had ever done. Been married for two weeks then I left for that and tech school.. Both took place at Lackland as I am Security Forces. But after about the 2nd week it got tolerable and I still have friends with whom I see and speak. God bless our troops and God bless all of you Airmen and future Airmen! Be proud of your Air Force! Doesnt matter if you're a cop like me, a pilot, a cook.. Be proud!

@NotxMustard If you want to work on planes, pick a job where you work on heavies like the cargo or refuelers. Fighter and bomber maintenance people normally work 10-14hr's a day in my experience, and I've been working on F-16s for the last 7+ years of my life. Basic training was cake when I went in, it's probably cake still, technical school was a complete waste of time. Welcome to the USAF..... Cannon 04-08, Kunsan 08-09, Spangdahlem 09-11.

@NotxMustard Just keeping you informed. In my experience a recruiter isn't going to tell you the full truth, just whatever makes the job sound nice. Their job is to get you to sigh on the dotted line, nothing more. If you DO go in, make sure you have the job you want garrenteed in writing, IN the contract, or you can spend several years of your life doing something you don't want to do. Just another heads up...

@NotxMustard Normally yes. You go into the DEP while you're waiting for one of the jobs on your wish list to become available. I've met people that were in the DEP for only a few weeks, and others that were in the DEP for several months. I was one of the unlucky people because I was in the DEP program for over 6 months waiting for one of my jobs to become available. It all just depends on what jobs you're waiting on I guess.

@PrideT2D It depends on your situation. If you have the funds or a scholarship to go to college, then I'd recommend it. Go in, get a degree, and if you're still interesting then join up as an officer. If you don't have the money or a scholarship out of high school, the military will at least give you the opportunity to go to school and pay for most, if not all of college. The military will train you in whatever job you choose, so even if you get out you'll have a job skill as a civilian.

@PrideT2D if you join as active duty, the MGI Bill will cover your tuition 100%. You can get into any school in the world for free. I know a lot of people in my squadron that regret going to college first, because it only put them in debt. Personally, I graduated high school a month before shipping off to basic.
