IMHO, the problem with the performance here is 100% due to the volume, everything just seems too absurdly loud. You can't sing well if the volume forces to scream like that. And as someone who has to live with tinnitus because of acoustic trauma, I might add : screw venue organizers/sound engineers who mistake concerts for nuclear war.

BUT just a tip for the Silverchair boys: If you're going to play a Midnight Oil song live, you really have to belt it out. Silverchair plays this at such an indifferent pace. Come on boys, you really got to belt it out.

i own all of the albums up to and including diorama.... and altho diorama is different its a great album. But since diorama daniel johns has got considerably worse at singing. If he sang like this in the early years silverchair would have got no where near the amont of fans they have.

i disagree dude. diarama yeah. nothing like it. best album they've ever wrote in my opinion. but young modern is a copy of alot of things. beatles, the killers, alot of indie acts that they sound like. but the point is that it is very boring and ordinary music thier new stuff. and thats cool.  i mean the guys has wrote more kick ass songs than alot of other bands can write in a lifetime. and he is barely 30. but his new music is just like he's not even trying anymore. it sucks but hey.

The thing with Silverchair is inbetween every album they've evolved and added more diversity to their huge collection or masterpieces. I love them from every album era. I'm not just open to like the "grunge" side of them. They encompass what a real rock band should be...that being to write amazing songs and just being Silverchair...not other way to describe them...apart from being one of the greatest bands I've ever heard in my life. Love them so much.

This is a cover of Midnight Oil's song Don't wanna be the one, they playyed it live at the Arias in Midnight Oil's honour because they were being inducted into the Aria Hall of fame :-)

I'm a huge fan of Silverchairs new album :-) but I lost it :-S so I only got to listen to it a few times bit of a bummer should probly clean my room some time this year might find it :-P

Yeah, the older stuff is good, but it most certainly is dated. Their newer music is ten times better. They have evolved w/the times,which is what a good band is supposed to do. It's inevitable that they get better with time, and they have. Young Modern is a masterpiece!! I doubt you've given it a fair chance because I really can't wrap my mind around the idea that someone could think it was bad?!

I'm glad someone else thinks so. If silverchair kept their whole mid 90s 'grunge' thing going they wouldve crashed and burned by now. Daniel Johns is a genius and its a massive disappointment that the majority of the music community can't comprehend the masterpieces on Diorama and Young Modern. If Across the Night was released in the 60's we would be looking back on it today as a smash hit.

Yeah...I think this performance is top notch. I love how they use a brass section when they play the ARIA Awards now. This is the best I've heard Silverchair sound as a band since they were touring reguarly in 2003. Looking forward to hearing the new stuff now and seeing a show.
