Brilliant comeback on the 'Cuban' jibe. Wlady was fairly holding his own though he was quite out of his depth. This was evident by his resort to the straight ahead slur which will nearly always backfire against someone with the intellectual arsenal of Hitchens.
If there's a hell and Carl Sagan, Christopher Hitchens, George Carlin, and Isaac Asimov are in it, then it is good to be bad because, fuck, we have to go there.
Unfortunately I think too many people believe what Pleszcznsky says and forget what Hitchens points out and asks us to remember.
Reagan increased our deficit, ran illegal money for guns operations (Iran Contra), and somehow made us love him for it. Clinton by comparison reduced our deficit, promoted democracy worldwide and is badmouthed for his actions. Neither were saints, but Reagan gets deified.
If you don't know who Hitchens is try reading Slate or Vanity Fair online. He has been on the tube going back to the old Dennis Miller show on HBO in the 90s.
Hitchens is a mean and disingenuous soul...and clearly enjoys being such. Like most of his ilk, he selectively uses facts and/or statistics to prove minor points on major issues. He's clearly an intellect, but it'd be nice to put him up against an equal...such as Bill Buckley. I think he'd be less smug in the presence of intellectual competition.
Loved, LOVED seeing this clip. You know you're dealing with someone who's got their shit straight when he can take a giant misinformed, ignorant insult, not blow up in anger and respond in a highly intellectual, yet deeply stabbing, way. Hitch in this clip is priceless. What an incredibly confident and smart man he was AND IS. Get well soon, Hitch!
WRONG, dude! That's NOT what Social Security is...however, that _is_ what the Republicans want to turn it into, which is why they must be stopped.
And BTW, dude, your ignorance is truly showing when you say that the income tax is "unconstitutional." THE INCOME TAX WAS AN AMMENDMENT, DUDE! The income tax is litterally JUST as constitutional as...the 2nd or 1st amendments, say.
And btw, u think the government's only duty is to military defense???? I'd like to see you say that
It's amazing to see someone who, self admittedly, changes hs position over the years remains so consistant with his counternance and his demeanor, He really is, hitchens, a man worthy of admiration.
The woman on the phone told Hitchens that if he was going to criticize president Reagan, he should move to a different country.
I have the funniest feeling that, if she is still with us, she is not an Obama supporter. I'm curious if she left the country or if she just doesn't criticize Obama. I'm guessing it's neither. That would make her a hypocrite.
Although, I'm sure she's pleased that the cognitive-dissonance required diefication of Reagan by the Republicans continues to this day.
@moonshineinsummer1 A brilliant thinker draws conclusions based on empirical evidence, history and facts... He is a socialist collectivist... Which as a young man I was.. After I heard a truly brilliant man speak, I changed my opinions... All I had to do was hear truth and then examine the facts based upon what I had heard.. That man was Milton Friedman... After that? I never even paid any attention to morons like Hitchens.. His brother is twice as intelligent as he is..
@SuperGuitarman69 - Instead of attacking Hitchens personally, why don't you provide some compelling evidence againstshis statements? You probably favor his brother because he is a believer.
@socalcraigster that is a fair assessment... However, collectivist neo-socialist people like Hitchens are dangerous to those who actually understand freedom and economics... Hitchens should be feared... Many economists and few market advocates are atheists... That had nothing to do with freedom
@SuperGuitarman69 Well, most non-morons understand that "freedom" is not a single thing. There's an economic conflict between "freedom from" and "freedom to" that societies need to balance if they don't want to produce losers and wide economic differences on purpose. That's the reason most of the world seems to gravitate towards social democracies where "freedom" isn't used as a strangely shaped power tool to fuck large parts of society in the ass.
@Gnomefro No one loses in capitalism.. We DO NOT HAVE CAPITALISM in America.. We have losers BECAUSE of government.. Not because of capitalism.. That is why right to work states have higher wages than union states.. That is why you get MORE tax revenue when you lower taxes.. That is why you have higher GDP, low unemployment, when you have less regulation and corporate tax rates.. You have it YOUR way now.. We have socialism.. And it ISN'T working.. In socialist countries you DO have Part 1
"That is why you get MORE tax revenue when you lower taxes.. That is why you have higher GDP, low unemployment, when you have less regulation and corporate tax rates"
@Gnomefro Part2 incredibly wide income discrepancies.. You have the people, who no matter how successful their business is, they cannot get out of a certain income bracket due to government "progressive" tax systems .. Like a Trump or Walton would NOT be rich.. Normal citizens who have taken a risk and succeeded.. Nope, in socialist countries the rich are uber rich.. Who are they? The ones in control of government. Pelosi came in worth 12 million. Now she is worth 50. Hmmm, sounds socialist
If you really believe that you're dreaming. For one, you can't have only winners; it's a contradiction. Also, if we didn't have government, would a hard working farmer be fine if a drought wiped out his entire crops? What about mom & pop who slaved away to run a successful small hardware store only to be put out of business by Walmart? What about a fisherman whose livelihood was destroyed by an oil spill?
How would those people not have been totally screwed if we just didn't have a government? Keep in mind they would also not have the basic social safty net provided by a government in the form of subsidies or unemployment until they could figure out what to do next. Even Adam Smith understood that the free hand needed to be kept in check by some for of government.
Also, before the New Deal, over 50% of seniors lived in poverty. Now it is less than 10%. Do you think that is bad?
@jimbrown257 of what he paid in.. It is a ponzi scheme.. What happens if he dies? The government graciously gives the money to his family? No it is gone forever.. And on top of that? They take half of what he does have in savings on what is known as the death tax.. The FDA? Yet another waste of tax payer dollars.. Why do you need courts then?? What is the point? If a drug manufacturer creates a dangerous drug and it kills people? They will get sued for everything they are worth.. Now, Part 2
"If a drug manufacturer creates a dangerous drug and it kills people? They will get sued for everything they are worth"
...First of all, drugs that do kill people get put on the market all the time. The families of the deceased often (though not always) get large settlements but they manufactures certainly don't loss everything. Regardless, wouldn't you rather just not die from bad drugs/food (at least minimize the chances) than have you family get rich from your death?
@jimbrown257 Your logic is flawed.. There are many life saving drugs that were available.. A drug that wasn't allowed on the market for aids for nearly 10 years because of the FDA.. Literally over a million people died.. Companies do not get in the business to kill people.. They get in the business to save lives and make a profit along the way.. A win win.. you have government idiots trying to keep their jobs who scare people into thinking they are necessary. When they are NOT
Last week you said "If my dad did not have his money taken out in SS he would have been a multi millionaire at retirement" were you saying your dad paid millions of dollars into social security taxes? Can you explain how that is mathematically possible? At 12.4% (only on the first $107,000) the most he could pay is $13,268/yr ($663,000 over 50 years). In fact, it would be less as the tax and cap used to be much lower.
Can you explain how he could have paid more than that?
@jimbrown257 For being in an interest bearing account.. You take the 6.2% that my father paid in.. Let's say 4 million over his entire life divided by 6.2%.. Put that in a private savings account that accrues let's say 9% interest.. 248 added accrued interest.. That IS HIS.. Not to be borrowed from the government, or taxed on a FUCKING death tax when he dies.. You want to talk about a ponzi scheme? SS, is makes Madoff look like mother Teresa
That money could have been used to invest and gain a large return on it. I'm not trying to defend his bullshit, I'm simply saying it IS possible;... if improbable.
@jimbrown257 that isn't the case.. The government many times PROTECTS THEM.. It approves them through the FDA, if something goes wrong, the FDA protects them in the court of law due to it's so called credibility.. EPA? Remember Erin Brockovich? The PGE case?? The government didn't step in and PGE lost millions in a law suit.. Corrected itself after losing, then our wonderful EPA comes in and writes regulations that all the companies that were dealing with the same product corrected to not Part 3
@jimbrown257 be sued as well. NO government needed.. That is why we have courts and should.. The EPA is the reason gas is so high.. If we could increase supply with the literally ENDLESS oil supply in our own country we could be free of foreign interests.. But no, now Canada and Brazil are surpassing us.. Walmart ended mom and pop? Hardly, it created millions of jobs that wouldn't exist, and it gives cheap products to it's customers.. Do you want to pay $4 dollars or 99cents for shaving creme P4
@jimbrown257 mom and pop can specialize in something.. Maybe a higher quality of a product than what Walmart provides, perhaps something special that doesn't exist.. The fisherman loses in an oil spill? Yep, I agree, so the answer is someone from Minnesota paying taxes to protect someone who fishes near oil wells? Yeah that makes sense.. The government stealing from one to insure another? I think not.. How do you fix it? COURTS COURTS COURTS.. That is the 3rd branch of our system. Remember p5
@jimbrown257 and finally.. If you look at every country in the world.. And I am including the "so called" wonderful places like Obama embraces, like Sweden and Norway.. They have 2% unemployment, and great "mandated" government employees rights.. But, those countries are incredibly expensive and an I pod would cost nearly a months salary.. so before you go and say capitalism creates losers? It doesn't.. It creates wealth and a higher standard of living.. Only when you have it.. America.. p6
@SuperGuitarman69 I assume you are either joking or extremely ignorant? An ipod does not cost a month's salary, an average months salary in Scandinavia would buy about 18 ipods, But the bigger point is, Scandinvia and neighbouring places do not measure standards of life by what trinkets can be bought. What we know is that there some things in society that which, left to market forces, would be either non-existent, in ruins or unaffordable for ordinary people.
@SuperGuitarman69 What has the dollar got to do with it? It'[s not the currency in scandinavia, nor the currency measure. You remarked that an ipod would cost a month's wages, you're wrong. You said Scandinavia has 2% unemployment, you're wrong. Again, you're a noisy American who thinks the rest of the world lives in either abject poverty or straightjacketed by the state. Scandinavia and W. Europe capitalist economies too.
@nakedmambo WHAAAAAAT???????? Capitalist societies? Say NO more... You are a complete idiot.. Read what capitalism is.. We do not even have it in the United States.. Geeeez.. How brain washed and controlled are you?>
@SuperGuitarman69 I'm sure you like to pretend to yourself that "real" capitalism has never been implemented, that "real" capitalism would solve all the world's problems, but of course your another dreamy free-market idealist; it's the flip side of saying 'communism has never been tried', which I'm sure is something you enjoy criticising too. I'm used to quarter-educated Americans ranting on about this issue so your insults mean very little. Stay away from these issues, you have no ability.
@nakedmambo Really? Quarter-educated Americans? I got my degree in economics from Washington University in 94'... So you're little rant? Yeah I have been studying every facet of every economic system since they had economics systems.. So do this... Impress me, you, or anyone else.. Describe capitalism, socialism, and communism... Not in a copy paste grab something off the internet thing... In your own words smartass... I bet you a million bucks your idiot ass can't describe the differences
@SuperGuitarman69 If you had really followed such a degree course, you'd know a You Yube post is hardly enough space to tackle that broad question. I doubt you've been studying it: "since they had economic systems" or you'd be several hundred (or thousand) years old.Guess what? I never studied economics (I even initially failed my degree in 1999), but I'm not content to buy into the limited view of economics pumped out of official undergraduate economics courses, or the likes of the IEA.
@nakedmambo Economics is only difficult when you are using formulas.. I posted a speech on my Channel Hayek vs. Keynes on my channel.. It was one of the most brilliant explanations of the differences in the 2... It is simple to me, but it is a tough watch and a bit boring if you care to look at it.. But once you actually see it, you can make a more informed judgement on what it actually is theoretically... To base your opinions of economics on what you "think" is correct. Perhaps learn it..
@jimbrown257 is NOT a capitalist country.. We have socialism.. We have more socialism than capitalism.. I should know.. I own a business, I used to own 2.. But regulations and taxes forced me to close 1 of them.. Which 14 people were out of work.. 7 still have not found work.. So is Obama good for the country? NOOOO he is destroying it.. Not only him Dems too.. Republicans are finally getting it.. Now if we can get them to print our own money and end the fed we would have something...
@jimbrown257 People live in poverty because they were NOT smart with their money.. Now is that the responsibility of workers in their 20's to pay for someone in their 70's? How did that happen if government was so called "taking care of Seniors" through social security? BECAUSE THEY SPENT IT..... You cannot give politicians ANY MONEY... Leave it in the hands of the people.. Have THEM save their money in private accounts.. You can make them save 6.2 but IN THEIR ACCOUNTS.. So it can grow
@SuperGuitarman69 Social security is a pension fund that working people pay into. It's currently running out of money because both sides of the political spectrum have been taking money out of the fund to pay other debts (such as Bush's two wars which were run off the books). Seniors didn't spend the money, your dumb votes did. You don't know anything about anything, please stop pretending you have a clue.
@7j8i9m You don't think I know this>? And I know more than 99.9% of the wannabes on youtube... Social Security is a scam, perpetrated by government to steal money out of to pay for tons of programs that are government issued.. WAY more than war.. Entitlements, Medicaid and Medicare make up 60% of the budget. Defense IS mandated in the constitution and is the ONLY thing government can levee taxes for. Income tax is unconstitutional, not ratified by the states.. A scam..
@SuperGuitarman69 - The constitution doesn't mention a great deal of things that you enjoy and mentions a great deal of things we've gotten rid of - like slavery.
The constitution is a guiding document, not a holy writ. It can be amended and every law that congress passes and governmental agency is created under the aegis of the constitution. If a law is in violation of it, the Supreme Court overrules it.
@morpheusxnyc Read it.. It is very clear on taxation.. And no, we need to eliminate, income taxes, corporate taxes are the 2nd highest in the world in a supposedly capitalist free market system.. the death tax? Are you kidding me? No we need to start taking a bushhog to government.. We need to end entitlements completely and return the power back into the hands of the people.. The socialist/progressive experiment has failed miserably.. It is time to end it forever.
@morpheusxnyc Read it.. It is very clear on taxation.. That statement shows you know nothing of what socialism and progress even means. the American revolution was perhaps the most liberal/socialist/progressive act ever done. This very nation is a progressive experiment. By your own fucktard words, you say Americ should fall. I hope you get rounded up for blatantly declaring treason.
@NUTCASE71733 No you do not understand.. The American revolution was CLASSICAL Liberalism.. Which is Libertarian in nature.. There isn't one thing liberal about the left.. Progress? Marxism, socialism, oligarchy, is nothing new.. It has been around since the dawn of time.. And treason? Perhaps you should look no further than Obama.. cloward, Piven, Alinski etc... all should be shot for treason.. Look no further than what they have done and are trying to do.. READ THE CONSTITUTION
@emantabrizi Numbers of reasons.. one is he serves as a presidential leader of a group in the UN.. The criminal UN.. The constitution clearly states the Presidential position cannot hold 2 posts.. That has been upheld until Obama.. But no one seems to care.. Not even FOX news.. It is known as treason..
@SuperGuitarman69 ... Which United Nations group is he a presidential leader of? Also, what section of the Constitution states the President cannot hold two posts?
I understand there are stupid or counter-productive government regulations; I doubt anyone would deny that. But to use the fact that there are dumb regulations to get rid of all regulations is like taking one of those books of silly laws and saying "You can't tie two alligators to the same parking meter in Bridgeport, Connicut!?! That's a dumb law; we should get rid of all laws."
I'm sure you're read The Jungle. Should we get rid of the FDA and go back to those kind of conditions?
@jimbrown257 Explain all of that.. The new deal created an opportunity for government to take money from an individuals paycheck, spend it, then act like it is saving it.. And farmers when crops are destroyed use the destroyed crop as fodder, which still brings yield.. Along with the subsidies is MORE than if they sold their crops.. If my dad did not have his money taken out in SS he would have been a multi millionaire at retirement.. he is almost 90 and still has only collected half of Part1
"If my dad did not have his money taken out in SS he would have been a multi millionaire at retirement"
... I understand how a person who made a lot of money would not get all they paid back in SS payments before they pass away but can you explain how someone who would have retired a multi-millionaire did not because of a ~7% social insurance tax? Also, you do know Obama lowered the employee's FI tax to 4.2%, right? Do you give him credit for that?
@SuperGuitarman69 The question didn't do anything but demonstrate the woman's ignorance and bias. It wasn't really deserving of a real response because it was framed as an insult and more of a rhetorical question. There was no burying there, it was an insult and an ignorant usage of the "patriot" card of sorts.
This discussion seems so much more civil and intellectual than the modern political dialogue. I can barely listen to the zoo on the news today, people machine gunning diarrhea from their mouth without giving each other chance to articulate their understanding. But then again, people seem to prefer bumper sticker ideologies over in-depth analysis.
He doesn't even have engage that wank with rhetorical fencing as he is indicative of the payolla Rightwing tools and petty crooks that have been elevated to that of pseudo statesman... every Republican is of that brainwashed used car salesman angle... or, like this bespectacled twat... a rentboy
this hitchin guy, on EVERY clip I've seen displays a pessimistic outlook, and likes nothing in the way of traditional american family values. At least he agrees that he is a socialist... he couldn't hide that if he tried.
@severnkenpo Traditional american family values, whatever that actually means is dead, thankfully. Time to move on from that warped and deluded fairytale world of the 1950's that you seem to be so evidently stuck in. That nonsensical family hierarchical structure should be condemned for the fraudulent nonsense that it is.
You can see by the body language and the hesitant stumbling words that come out of his mouth that the Guy with the glasses is having a great battle with his conscience which is trying to stop the drivel that he is spoouting.
I think Reagan's second term dropped him a few lucky strokes, and his people were quite masterful at taking great advantage of that. He definitely was not the mastermind of freedom in Europe revisionists so dearly wish him to be. The historical record that appears kind to Reagan has been quite embellished by his supporters, but there is plenty of factual basis to shoot those notions down out there, if you keep your mind open to it.
hitchens is funny but i wish guys like him would try and run for office,..see how easy it is..rather than sitting on the side lines..pointing fingers.
As a writer, Hitchens honed his skills at thoughtful articulation on paper. It's surprising that, even back then, his extemporaneous speaking style & content were a force to behold! Few great writers have been able to communicate so effectively with machine-gun verbal responses like Christopher's. What a fast & deadly accurate mind!
@ahmed337799 Nice attempt at backpedaling. I can see why you'd hate Hitchens. He is many things that you'll probably never be, like well-read, intelligent, eloquent, and sexy.
u think im jealous of hitchens? did you see his recent pictures?
hitchens sold his soul by justifying american imperialism in iraq, because it gave him the support of the media and his fame. had he not done that, you would probably have never heard of him.
That, uh, that, uh, other guy, er, is, er, really, uh, annoying. Both in his, uh, views, and in his, er, mannerisms. I want to, uh, stick a ice pick through his, er, skull.
Who the hell was that weasel on the right and how did he manage to speak so clearly with his tongue stuffed so deeply and firmly up the Republican Party's anus?
Christopher does make the polish-american man look silly. I think we all knows politics is about gamesmanship. Most politicians lie, but if they didn't they would never get elected! I think one has to lie to survive in this world and that is without being a politician.
Hitchens gets the better of the lackadaisical Pleszczynski here, no doubt. But 20 something years down the line, it's quite clear his appraisal of Ronald Reagan was flat wrong, and Pleszczynski's more respectful view, though much less entertaining, is far closer to the consensus on his presidency -- Reagan, after all, remains one of the most enduringly popular US presidents in decades.
@AndrewOTodd His popularity is beside the point; look at the most popular shows on tv and tell me with a straight face that any of them are genuinely good shows. An objective examination reveals Reagan to have been a royal prick, and that's putting nicely.
@tml4873 'Enduringly popular' is something different. from ephemeral popularity, which is what you're talking about .Also, the historical record is a lot kinder to Reagan than Hitchens was. One thing Reagan was not a dim-witted war monger with the Soviets, as Hitchens believed -- the history of his second term proves that beyond all doubt.
i was born a year after hitchens was discussing politics on c-span. amazing. growing up i never could have dreamed of the far reaches of intellect and how long its been around.
Christopher Hitchens " I am a Socialist " And " Ronald Ragan is a fraud " Back in 1988! And now America is turning towards Socialism and everybody now accepts that Ragan was a fraud, Christopher Hitchens was politically, Nearly two decades ahead of time!
at about 7:45, you get the classic move of the pseudo-intellectual-anti-intellectual conservative: don't have any of your facts straight and try to make underhanded slurs against people you clearly can't hold a candle against in any realm of actual reason. Hitchens' response is one of the best and most succinct counters and should be a model to shut down yahoos who seem to proliferate nowadays.
@MrAnthonyVance Christopher Hitchens will STILL be the superior arguer in any discussion long after he is dead. Hopefully that will be a long time away.
Jesus freaks and right wing facist simpletons are already touting that god gave Hitchens throat cancer to stop his condemnation of the church and christianity. I despise all religious people. Fuck your god!
@scotttebben I hear you, my friend. And I can see why you are pissed off. The Jesus freaks, the Christian fakes, possess all the logic and intelligence of Sarah Palin. And they, like Palin, bode harm for the future by their very dumbness. Can I say more?
@morrowindfan75 well i'll be switched, you got me! I know nothing about anything and I am nothing. finally a confirmation of what i've always suspected.
You got it all right, except for that I dropped out at 13 :(:(:(
Also, I actually live in costa rica and was born in mexico.
@morrowindfan75 Hey Romansteel13 - Nice side profile! XD LOL You stupid fuckin troll - Do you really think people don't realise what you're doing?? XD LMAO
One of Reagan's successful policies: de-regulation, brought us Enron, sub-prime salesmen, derivatives salesmen ... brought own the WORLD economy. A real success. Lu Lu on the left side of the screen clearly is SEVERELY intellectually challenged.
@socialmedic In fairness, as far as the sub-prime mess and "deregulation" of mortgage banking is concerned, please note that Fannie may was created in 1938 (yes 38) by Roosevelt! May & Mac. The next massive step was when Lyndon Johnson in '68 privatized May & Mac (due to a budget crises) which allowed the companies to have vastly less oversight AND be a private profit company AND still enjoy tax exempt status.

@SuperGuitarman69 Hitchens is a great thinker,,,unlike you....dont try to use intelligence that you dont have.....you may hurt yourself.
moonshineinsummer1 5 months ago
@moonshineinsummer1 A brilliant thinker draws conclusions based on empirical evidence, history and facts... He is a socialist collectivist... Which as a young man I was.. After I heard a truly brilliant man speak, I changed my opinions... All I had to do was hear truth and then examine the facts based upon what I had heard.. That man was Milton Friedman... After that? I never even paid any attention to morons like Hitchens.. His brother is twice as intelligent as he is..
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69 - Instead of attacking Hitchens personally, why don't you provide some compelling evidence againstshis statements? You probably favor his brother because he is a believer.
socalcraigster 5 months ago
@socalcraigster that is a fair assessment... However, collectivist neo-socialist people like Hitchens are dangerous to those who actually understand freedom and economics... Hitchens should be feared... Many economists and few market advocates are atheists... That had nothing to do with freedom
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago

In socialist countries you DO have Part 1

jimbrown257 5 months ago
@Gnomefro Part2 incredibly wide income discrepancies.. You have the people, who no matter how successful their business is, they cannot get out of a certain income bracket due to government "progressive" tax systems .. Like a Trump or Walton would NOT be rich.. Normal citizens who have taken a risk and succeeded.. Nope, in socialist countries the rich are uber rich.. Who are they? The ones in control of government. Pelosi came in worth 12 million. Now she is worth 50. Hmmm, sounds socialist
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
"No one loses in capitalism.."
Cont above...
jimbrown257 5 months ago
Part 2:
How would those people not have been totally screwed if we just didn't have a government? Keep in mind they would also not have the basic social safty net provided by a government in the form of subsidies or unemployment until they could figure out what to do next. Even Adam Smith understood that the free hand needed to be kept in check by some for of government.
Also, before the New Deal, over 50% of seniors lived in poverty. Now it is less than 10%. Do you think that is bad?
jimbrown257 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 of what he paid in.. It is a ponzi scheme.. What happens if he dies? The government graciously gives the money to his family? No it is gone forever.. And on top of that? They take half of what he does have in savings on what is known as the death tax.. The FDA? Yet another waste of tax payer dollars.. Why do you need courts then?? What is the point? If a drug manufacturer creates a dangerous drug and it kills people? They will get sued for everything they are worth.. Now, Part 2
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69
"If a drug manufacturer creates a dangerous drug and it kills people? They will get sued for everything they are worth"
...First of all, drugs that do kill people get put on the market all the time. The families of the deceased often (though not always) get large settlements but they manufactures certainly don't loss everything. Regardless, wouldn't you rather just not die from bad drugs/food (at least minimize the chances) than have you family get rich from your death?
jimbrown257 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 Your logic is flawed.. There are many life saving drugs that were available.. A drug that wasn't allowed on the market for aids for nearly 10 years because of the FDA.. Literally over a million people died.. Companies do not get in the business to kill people.. They get in the business to save lives and make a profit along the way.. A win win.. you have government idiots trying to keep their jobs who scare people into thinking they are necessary. When they are NOT
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69
Can you explain how he could have paid more than that?
jimbrown257 5 months ago 2
@jimbrown257 For being in an interest bearing account.. You take the 6.2% that my father paid in.. Let's say 4 million over his entire life divided by 6.2%.. Put that in a private savings account that accrues let's say 9% interest.. 248 added accrued interest.. That IS HIS.. Not to be borrowed from the government, or taxed on a FUCKING death tax when he dies.. You want to talk about a ponzi scheme? SS, is makes Madoff look like mother Teresa
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@jimbrown257
That money could have been used to invest and gain a large return on it. I'm not trying to defend his bullshit, I'm simply saying it IS possible;... if improbable.
protossenslaver 3 months ago
@jimbrown257 that isn't the case.. The government many times PROTECTS THEM.. It approves them through the FDA, if something goes wrong, the FDA protects them in the court of law due to it's so called credibility.. EPA? Remember Erin Brockovich? The PGE case?? The government didn't step in and PGE lost millions in a law suit.. Corrected itself after losing, then our wonderful EPA comes in and writes regulations that all the companies that were dealing with the same product corrected to not Part 3
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 be sued as well. NO government needed.. That is why we have courts and should.. The EPA is the reason gas is so high.. If we could increase supply with the literally ENDLESS oil supply in our own country we could be free of foreign interests.. But no, now Canada and Brazil are surpassing us.. Walmart ended mom and pop? Hardly, it created millions of jobs that wouldn't exist, and it gives cheap products to it's customers.. Do you want to pay $4 dollars or 99cents for shaving creme P4
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 mom and pop can specialize in something.. Maybe a higher quality of a product than what Walmart provides, perhaps something special that doesn't exist.. The fisherman loses in an oil spill? Yep, I agree, so the answer is someone from Minnesota paying taxes to protect someone who fishes near oil wells? Yeah that makes sense.. The government stealing from one to insure another? I think not.. How do you fix it? COURTS COURTS COURTS.. That is the 3rd branch of our system. Remember p5
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 and finally.. If you look at every country in the world.. And I am including the "so called" wonderful places like Obama embraces, like Sweden and Norway.. They have 2% unemployment, and great "mandated" government employees rights.. But, those countries are incredibly expensive and an I pod would cost nearly a months salary.. so before you go and say capitalism creates losers? It doesn't.. It creates wealth and a higher standard of living.. Only when you have it.. America.. p6
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69 I assume you are either joking or extremely ignorant? An ipod does not cost a month's salary, an average months salary in Scandinavia would buy about 18 ipods, But the bigger point is, Scandinvia and neighbouring places do not measure standards of life by what trinkets can be bought. What we know is that there some things in society that which, left to market forces, would be either non-existent, in ruins or unaffordable for ordinary people.
nakedmambo 5 months ago
@nakedmambo You are joking right? You obviously do not know Scandinavia inflation and the dollar's value there..
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69 What has the dollar got to do with it? It'[s not the currency in scandinavia, nor the currency measure. You remarked that an ipod would cost a month's wages, you're wrong. You said Scandinavia has 2% unemployment, you're wrong. Again, you're a noisy American who thinks the rest of the world lives in either abject poverty or straightjacketed by the state. Scandinavia and W. Europe capitalist economies too.

Stay away from these issues, you have no ability.
nakedmambo 5 months ago
@nakedmambo Really? Quarter-educated Americans? I got my degree in economics from Washington University in 94'... So you're little rant? Yeah I have been studying every facet of every economic system since they had economics systems.. So do this... Impress me, you, or anyone else.. Describe capitalism, socialism, and communism... Not in a copy paste grab something off the internet thing... In your own words smartass... I bet you a million bucks your idiot ass can't describe the differences
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69 If you had really followed such a degree course, you'd know a You Yube post is hardly enough space to tackle that broad question. I doubt you've been studying it: "since they had economic systems" or you'd be several hundred (or thousand) years old.Guess what? I never studied economics (I even initially failed my degree in 1999), but I'm not content to buy into the limited view of economics pumped out of official undergraduate economics courses, or the likes of the IEA.
nakedmambo 5 months ago
@nakedmambo Economics is only difficult when you are using formulas.. I posted a speech on my Channel Hayek vs. Keynes on my channel.. It was one of the most brilliant explanations of the differences in the 2... It is simple to me, but it is a tough watch and a bit boring if you care to look at it.. But once you actually see it, you can make a more informed judgement on what it actually is theoretically... To base your opinions of economics on what you "think" is correct. Perhaps learn it..
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 is NOT a capitalist country.. We have socialism.. We have more socialism than capitalism.. I should know.. I own a business, I used to own 2.. But regulations and taxes forced me to close 1 of them.. Which 14 people were out of work.. 7 still have not found work.. So is Obama good for the country? NOOOO he is destroying it.. Not only him Dems too.. Republicans are finally getting it.. Now if we can get them to print our own money and end the fed we would have something...
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 People live in poverty because they were NOT smart with their money.. Now is that the responsibility of workers in their 20's to pay for someone in their 70's? How did that happen if government was so called "taking care of Seniors" through social security? BECAUSE THEY SPENT IT..... You cannot give politicians ANY MONEY... Leave it in the hands of the people.. Have THEM save their money in private accounts.. You can make them save 6.2 but IN THEIR ACCOUNTS.. So it can grow
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69 Social security is a pension fund that working people pay into. It's currently running out of money because both sides of the political spectrum have been taking money out of the fund to pay other debts (such as Bush's two wars which were run off the books). Seniors didn't spend the money, your dumb votes did. You don't know anything about anything, please stop pretending you have a clue.
7j8i9m 5 months ago
@7j8i9m You don't think I know this>? And I know more than 99.9% of the wannabes on youtube... Social Security is a scam, perpetrated by government to steal money out of to pay for tons of programs that are government issued.. WAY more than war.. Entitlements, Medicaid and Medicare make up 60% of the budget. Defense IS mandated in the constitution and is the ONLY thing government can levee taxes for. Income tax is unconstitutional, not ratified by the states.. A scam..
SuperGuitarman69 5 months ago
@SuperGuitarman69 - The constitution doesn't mention a great deal of things that you enjoy and mentions a great deal of things we've gotten rid of - like slavery.
The constitution is a guiding document, not a holy writ. It can be amended and every law that congress passes and governmental agency is created under the aegis of the constitution. If a law is in violation of it, the Supreme Court overrules it.

NUTCASE71733 2 months ago
@NUTCASE71733 No you do not understand.. The American revolution was CLASSICAL Liberalism.. Which is Libertarian in nature.. There isn't one thing liberal about the left.. Progress? I understand there are stupid or counter-productive government regulations; I doubt anyone would deny that. But to use the fact that there are dumb regulations to get rid of all regulations is like taking one of those books of silly laws and saying "You can't tie two alligators to the same parking meter in Bridgeport, Connicut!?! That's a dumb law; we should get rid of all laws."
I'm sure you're read The Jungle. Should we get rid of the FDA and go back to those kind of conditions?
jimbrown257 5 months ago
@jimbrown257 Explain all of that.. The new deal created an opportunity for government to take money from an individuals paycheck, spend it, then act like it is saving it.. And farmers when crops are destroyed use the destroyed crop as fodder, which still brings yield.. Along with the subsidies is MORE than if they sold their crops.. If my dad did not have his money taken out in SS he would have been a multi millionaire at retirement.. he is almost 90 and still has only collected half of Part1

AndrewOTodd 9 months ago
@AndrewOTodd His popularity is beside the point; look at the most popular shows on tv and tell me with a straight face that any of them are genuinely good shows. An objective examination reveals Reagan to have been a royal prick, and that's putting nicely.
tml4873 8 months ago
@tml4873 'Enduringly popular' is something different. from ephemeral popularity, which is what you're talking about .Also, the historical record is a lot kinder to Reagan than Hitchens was. One thing Reagan was not a dim-witted war monger with the Soviets, as Hitchens believed -- the history of his second term proves that beyond all doubt.

Clearly you know nothing about Politics or have been to any other country besides your dear old US of A.
You are spouting what you learned in your HS government class.
You know nothing. You are nothing.
Good day, you are angry English.

1) "Read my lips, no new taxes"
2) Puking on that asian guy
