Brian Propp was a hell of a player. One of the best Flyers of all time. That was such a good team. Propp, Poulin, Kerr, Marshall, Howe, Hextall, Tocchet, etc. Now it's Richards, Carter, Gagne, Pronger, Timonen, Giroux, etc.
I'll go even further: Propp should be in the Hall of Fame. I'm not kidding. Best all-around left wing of the 1980s--with the possible exception of Goulet.
Oh he will. Like you said. Best all-around left wing of the 1980's. I'd say right now, he's the 4th best Flyer of all time. Behind Clarke, Parent, and Barber.
Fourth or fifth. Mark Howe would also be top 5. Rounding out the top 10, in my opinion would be Lindros, Brind'Amour, Recchi, Poulin, and one of Kerr, LeClair, Primeau, or Desjardins. Gagne, Richards, and Carter will be up there when all is said and done.
Personally, I wouldn't put MacLeish in the top 10. Top 20 probably, but I wouldn't put him ahead of Poulin, Desjardins, or even Tocchet or McCrimmon. In fact, Gagne would already crack my Top 20 easily--he's been around long enough.
Others worth considering would be Sutter, Zezel, Dineen, Acton, Bridgman, Dornhoefer, both Watsons, Van Impe, Crossman, Hextall, Lindbergh, Svoboda, Behn Wilson, Eklund, and Sinisalo.
I understand. But you have to realize, MacLeish is like 6th all-time in points for the Flyers. He had a 100 point season once. No offense to Tocchet or Poulin, or etc. but MacLeish was a very underrated guy. He deserves to be in the top 10. Also, Gagne could be in the top 10, I have him in about th 13ish place. Behind Brind'Amour and Primeau.
You know who I forgot? Reggie Leach. Again, though, not Top 10--more like Top 20 or 25 (he was a poor defensive player, not to mention inconsistent offensively).
MacLeish was indeed underrated, particularly as a penalty killer. It's just that, to me, Poulin was an ELITE defensive player and penalty killer who was also better than average offensively, and Tocchet was a more consistent scorer than MacLeish.
Did you know that Poulin is tied for 6th ALL TIME in shorthanded goals (w/ Kurri).
Yes, I had Leach around 16/17. Poulin was a heck of a defensive player and a great captain. Completely agree on that. Tocchet was good, but unfortunately we didn't have him in his prime. I have Tocchet around 19/20. Also, Poulin wasn't exactly with us that long. I think it was like around 4 years. Short-handed goals are an impressive stat, but they are under looked. Poulin was better defensively, but MacLeish was twice as better oppensively. Just my opinion.
Yeah, tell me about it. I love discussing Flyers hockey. Also, let me say this. maybe another reason is because MacLeish was big parts of the 2 Stanley Cups. Poulin nearly did it, but the best player in hockey history had to get in the way. Maybe I'll move Poulin down more. But I just feel MacLeish deserves it.
gonna have to dissagree with the carter.............I love this new team, but every now and then you have to put a foot in your "kids" ass to get em motivated.
Well, he's still young. Unless he's not going to be a Flyer for long, we will score a lot of goals for us. Also, Pronger will be on that list eventually. Seeing he's going to be here for nearly 7 years.
Amazing...the Flyers were the only team that even challenged Edmonton during their reign in the 80s. 4 of their 5 Cups were won in 5 of games or less, yet the Flyers took them to 7 games, due to outstanding goaltending and a team that believed in itself.
They pushed the Oilers to the closing moments of game 7 despite the fact that they were decimated by injuries, were without Tim Kerr, and that Gretzky, Messier, Anderson, Kurri, and Coffey were all in the primes of their respective careers.
For some reason its cool to come to video clips and point out various flaws in the team that the video is dedicated for. Just remember if you do this, do NOT forget to put the team you support after you make fun a team... such as... Flyers r teh sUxors1!1 DEVILS!
This was the one of the best Flyers teams not to win a Stanley Cup. But to see the Flyers take the Heavy powerd Edmonton Oilers to 7 games is awesome. I think if Pelle Lindbergh diden't died the Flyers proley would have won another cup.But Ron Hextall played an all out Great in the playoffs in 1987.
I was at this game,13 rows from the ice at the opposite blue line from where Propp scored. Absolutely one of the greatest single events I have ever attended. When JJ Daignault scored to take the lead, the Spectrum shook. The noise was incredible. There were 2 dudes in row 14 who fell into our seats. People lost their minds. Awesome memory.
"Cry and whine".....it's you who cry and whine like a fag cuz you got nothing from your Philly's shits teams. Sixers = nothing without Allen Iverson, Phillies suck (they got OWNED by a canadian team at their last World Series apparence), the Eagle are good, but not good enough to be champion and finally, your flyers are a nothing but a broad street pussies who are NOTHING without Forsberg. You weren't born when a philly team won their last championship (the sixers).
HA thats right peanutman, start crying, the Canes were the southern Flyers this season with Brindamor, Rex and Williams. pretty much stomped the Oilers last night.
While the canes have won the cup (with those former flyers), the flyers played golf. You guys were pathetic against the sabres. Philadelphia = city of losers
I still have game 5 on tape. I'm an Islanders fan for crying out loud, I still say that 1986-87 Flyers team was the best team that didn't win the cup. Despite losing to Edmonton, you gotta admit that was an awesome series, if not the best Stanley Cup final ever.
The 1987 Stanley Cup Finals is one of the best in my memory

Poulin played for the Flyers from 1983-90. Roughly six full seasons, plus the cup of coffee late in the '82-83 season.
Great discussion, by the way. It's not every day you get to discuss Flyers history in detail on YouTube. ;)
