Starbucks is an a culture to bring you the best taste in coffee. If you want to complain about there $4 in coffee for complain to every brand out there. McDonalds Big Mac cost less than a dollar to make and it cost around $5. A cell phone cost about $25 dollars to make but since its nice looking they can charge you $400. A hard cover book cost about 6 dollars for 400 pages and the book is sold for nearly $30. This is America we want to grow in every way!!

Starbucks has "fair trade" certified coffee available... customers have a responsibility to shop informatively... and as an employee, i tell them so... ultimately the decision is theirs... with every year they purchase of fair trade coffee increases, which as a corporation shows that they are trying to act responsibly... even as they face financial hardships.

you all say that we pay farmers too little, but if the farmers made more annual income then everyone else in their country, they could potentially raise the prices for everything else making those that don't make as much as them poorer since they don't have the money to purchase the necessities of life. thats why starbucks can't pay farmers sufficiently more then the market price.

Starbucks ceo made $9.7 million last year. 12.8 million is 2007. They do not use Free Trade coffee - to say they do is an outright lie. Rev Billy says support your local coffee shops - keep the money local, support local families and local businesses. The three Starbucks in my neighborhood don't support any of the local schools' fundraisers or sports teams - they don't have to. Rev Billy's saying keep the money in the neighborhood. It's common sense.

They don't understand that those 40 cents they give are actually going to feed families in undeveloped countries where there are scarce jobs and high starvation. I wouldn't buy from starbucks because it is a bit expensive, but if I could afford it, I would buy 2 things or more per visit. Then if more coffee bean suppliers gave jobs to undeveloped countries, people there would have a choice and so employers would have to increase their salary.

And anyway, what would happen if we all stopped shopping? A lot of people would loose their jobs! bednarczyk is right. infact, starbucks has an excellent insurance plan, and excellent benefits. the farmers get the same benefits we do. they get treated like any other employee in the company. we donate coffee, and food to the salvation army for the shelters, and homeless. there are tons of christians who work at starbucks, or go to starbucks, who would disagree with this. it's too ridiculous.

Starbucks has "fair trade" certified coffee available... customers have a responsibility to shop informatively... and as an employee, i tell them so... ultimately the decision is theirs... with every year they purchase of fair trade coffee increases, which as a corporation shows that they are trying to act responsibly... even as they face financial hardships.

You always hear people hating on Starbucks for the meager wages they pay their farmers (in spite of the fact they give their baristas living wages and full health benefits - a true rarity), yet do these people ever stop to think about the percentage of profit people who make their socks, their jackets, their couches, their ballpoint pens, etc. are getting paid? I rarely hear people bitching and moaning about that. I guess it's not as hip of a cause. Supporting independent coffee is chic now.

It's not even a Starbucks though I think somehow they serve Starbucks coffee. I'm guessing that's how they got away with filming there. The only two Starbucks in that part of downtown are on Congress.
