@Macinabit Video formats are still a bit of a mystery to me since there can be both format and compression. But the files have the .mov extension. I hope that tells you what you need to know :-)
@PhotographyREVIEW Hi. OK, I think that the .mov files work in Final Cut Pro as long as the sound file and the image files are not split, if they are then it's hassle. Before I make a move towards buying one I will call Canon in Madrid and find out. as a photographer it seems a good cameras for sports with a nice USM Zoom lens mounted. Best Regards and thanks for your response.
I just got my 7D from pictureline and am learning how to use the video mode too. When i saw the MT Biker I thought, wow that looks like corner canyon then you showed Iceburg and crown burger and i knew you were in Utah :)
Heh heh. Yup - Clark's Trail in Corner Canyon. And my 7D came from Pictureline, too. Check out the new issue of Cycling Utah - the cover shot is mine :-)
Ok, I understand. You should read the article linked in the description. I am far from a video expert and this was only intended to be a short set of clips for people to look at and evaluate actual video image quality. If you want something from a video expert or something really good, I'm not the guy. But I'm working on it :-)
It's just that first shot, the others are ok, and that it's your first shot makes things worse. The autumn biker thing was really nice, and the first night shot.
a great feature on the eos 7d, to incorporate videography and photography in my wedding packages, using one camera is fantastic, just use plenty of sd cards, tripod, switch between shots and video,my clients love the HD dvd on top of there package, and its never been so much fun :)
Static images (tripod, single just slightly moving subject) seem to be ok, but the handheld ones (bicycle) are somewhat dispersed and partly out of unfocus (face).
Could you make one more sampler dedicated to usual handheld situations with moving subjects (people talking to camera on a trip, animals in ZOO etc.).
How does the 7D manage the dynamics in movies, e.g. person in a shadow of a tree with sunlit countryside in the background. Will be there just pure white left?
Thanks a lot for the comments and requests. I'll see what I can do.
I'm not sure what you mean by "dispersed." But the Canon EOS 7D and all other video DSLRs have no auto focus while filming. So you have to pre-focus and then manually refocus if you want to continue filming. Manually focusing on a moving subject isn't going to work very well.
Thanks again for the comment. I'll definitely film some more and I appreciate your requests :-)
"Dispersed" - I meant the chromatic noise, hardly to describe for an amateur ... maybe "sparking colors"?
The need of manual focusing is the answer for the second issue. I am a bit disappointed that the wonderful new AF system / AF tracking for moving subjects is of no use in movie mode, neither achieves the 7D the autofocus capabilities of a single Panasonic TZ7 (in movie mode, of course).
You might want to take a look at the article I wrote to accompany this video. There's a link for it just to the right of the video. You'll also find high-res studio still samples on the site. Would it be useful for me to also pull full resolution stills from the videos to look at? That would you could see what the noise is actually like.

That flower opening looked horrible, really a diservice
culturesignificant 2 years ago
It was not a flower opening. It was a flower blowing in the wind, shot at the standard 30 FPS frame rate.
PhotographyREVIEW 2 years ago
Ok, but I meant opening- as in the first thing you see. It just looks so flat and uninteresting, technicaly it's irrelevant
