@BuddaS0und Maybe you should try to go the the vector display (In the middle instead of Router) and turn the Vector Mode off (and the X-target and Y-target). This will produce a straight line. Also the intensity of the Chorus or Flanger must be turned to zero. Furthermore in the filter section, there can be a huge difference in sound output between the Lo, Hi or Peak for instance.
very good tutorial, but say you dont have a modwheel, on es2 what setting do you put under the sources, still modwheel? for me mybe because i dont have a modwheel, it isnt working propperly with all the different pitch changes and all, thanks
@96Troublesome what i do sometimes when i'm to lazy to get out my keyboard is just instead of modwheel assign it to cutoff 2 and then make it really slow or how ever long you want to make it but it doesn't sound quite as good as with the modwheel
@soundsLogical I got the Mod window to show up under the hyperdraw but i'm not sure where to go from there. I can't get the different styles to play properly. I am also about to get a MIDI keyboard so how would I go about using a keyboard too? Pleasee help! Thank you!
@zmoisey99 Once you've got the mod winodw up, you just draw in points, which simulate modwheel movements. If you get a keyboard, you just press record and wiggle the modwheel!
Great video sorry if people who cant afford a $50keyboard, you want it to have a realistic feel to it, and then u edit it in hyperdraw. this is way better then some of the cheesy preset noise sweeps.
very nice tutorial. being a newbie, i'd be very thankful if you could explain something you allude to.... how to use the piano roll editor to control the filter.
But I'm experiencing some problems too. I have the ES2 settings just like you (only I have a Modulation knob instead of wheel), but I only get the high sound and not the low sound from the beginning till it reaches a high sound as it builds up. Does anybody knows a solution?
@powernapper89 You might want to try a high pass filter (filter plug in), it might help. Just screw around with the cutoff automation and it might help you out.
Just to say I've watched a lot of your vids recently, they are incredibly helpful for me to achieve what I want. However, I'm just copying what you're doing, I don't understand what or why it is you are doing so I wouldn't be able to work stuff like this out myself. I don't understand basics like meaning and role of LFO, frequencies, filters. Can you recommend anywhere I can read up on these basics?
I have a question; I can't figure out how to record while editing parameters? If I am playing a track full of midi information and what to edit a parameter of drag my cursor round the channel eq box and record the changes that are happening how do i do this? Doesn't seem to work just by pressing record. Can anyone help?
Thanks, best logic tutorials I've seen on youtube.
This transition has a bit of "grainyness" from the white noise; I turned up the resonance and threw some reverb on the track, set it to a LP filter and it worked out pretty well
Can some one help me? I got noise the way that i want it to sound but when i put into a song, sometimes it starts out as if i had the mod wheel all the way max. how can i fix it?
I think your tutorials would be much better if you explained them in terms of automation, the average person wont have a keyboard or mod wheel, it would just be better
@toodietoodieomg Maybe you're right. I'm just sayin' how I do it. I do think that if you're serious about electronic music you need to get a MIDI keyboard though.
Plus you can edit Mod Wheel data in Hyper Draw, so you can still do it this way if you want to.
@soundsLogical Im just saying, its pretty standard procedure to use automation, using a modwheel is quite a drawn out and uneccesary process and lacks the precision of automation, I too have a midi keyboard but i still automate.
@toodietoodieomg Standard procedure is only standard for you :) everyone has their own ways of doing things. I like to do it like this so I can "play" the effect to the track, I find it's more expressive. Plus you can edit the MIDI data later for extra precision. But yes, I agree many people do choose to do it with automation.
@Manbearpig1903 The slider is all the way to the left when I tried doing it... still no sound. I'm new to Logic so maybe I not be doing something simple that he is assuming we already know. Do I have to create a region prior to making the white noise? Do I have to record?
@Manbearpig1903 My setup looks identical to his. No sound is produced when I use my mouse to move the cut knob just like he does in the beginning of the video. I set the mod wheel to move the cut knob and get the same result... nothing. What's going on here? Is he making a sound with his midi keyboard and moving the cut knob at the same time to produce that white noise?
@DJFortune1502 Well, you have to play the instrument(or play a region with MIDI data) while doing it to hear the effect if that's what you mean. I don't think I'm able to fix your problem with exchanging comments on YouTube, but if you haven't , I recommend searching for "es2 tutorial" on YouTube, and just watch a bunch of them. A guy called "SFLogicNinja" has some good tutorials on it. Also check out "TerryGuide". I'm sure you will find a solution to your problem while learning the es2.
seems many are having trouble adjusting the cutoff. an easy way without modwheel is to automate the cutoff using MMF Cutoff under the ES2 Mix+Filter Automation settings.
@mokosaurio jebus. perhaps people should learn logic first - no respect or think everything is going to be easy, it takes time. You need to push record and then move the mode wheel - the automation will be recorded then.
Would you drive at 100 miles per hour without knowing where the ignition was? NO- because it's impossible!!! So why do you think you can start designing sound without even knowing how to use automation, it's such a fundamental element of sound design and production. Jesus
i followed all the steps perfectly and the es2 settings, but it's not fading in from the cutoff 1 when i adjust the mod wheel, it's starting to puzzle me, could you give me a pointer as to why it's not working, thanks
I'm using my MIDI keyboard's wheel to control the modulation. If you don't have one, you can program this in in the piano roll, yes. Otherwise you could modulate with an envelope instead.
Love the videos, just wondering. Where are you actually positioning the mod wheel in the examples at the beginning when your assigning source/via/target , just moving upwards?
Do you have a project with all the templates in, so there kind of consolidated into one?
I hear a very soft sine wave type tone even when my only oscillator is set to noise. How do I get rid of this?

@96Troublesome You could use any of the Envelopes. For example, assign it to Env1 and then adjust the Attack or Decay of Envelope 1.
