Nice! Found out this was the original from the page with Tamia's version. I love a good singer so go Mica. Now I'll look her up and learn more about her career.
Well it's ok compared to Tamia's version. The problem is you can't teach what Tamia has. Which is a big voice. Soul doesn't make a voice. I find Tamia's voice sexier also. Also it seems like Micha kinda shouted this song.
@Skibone21 No.....you can't teach what the veteran Mica Paris has and that's the soulfulness, richness, and more mature version of this song. Don't get me wrong, Tamia's version did what it was supposed to do to bring her out as a young up and coming artist at the time she recorded it, but this song had already been laid completely to rest by Mica Paris by that time. Tamia simply gave it new life with pop/commercial appeal to reach a broader audience that's it.
@blkplaya9891 It makes THEIR voices. There are actually plenty of better singers than them and they're not soul singers. I'd love to hear the attributes you think make up a good voice. I have my own set of what makes a good SINGING voice. Tamia can do so many more things with her voice than Mica and it's evident. Same as Tamia's - Make Tonight Beautiful is smoother than Patti's and same with Tamia's - Daydreamin doin the same over Aretha. She can just do more. It's simple.
@Skibone21 Listen, I like Tamia and understand that her range is higher than Mica's, but that does not make her version of THIS song better. As I stated it was more poppier/commercial N it's presentation, no wavering on that. We will definitely agree 2 disagree. That's some powerful stuff U smoking if U in ANY way think Tamia is superior to Patti Labelle or Aretha on any aspect of singing. They will sing her under the table. My attribute of what makes up a good voice, it's simple.... LISTENING.
@blkplaya9891 The difference that sets Tamia Whitney Tarja Leann Rimes etc from Patti and Aretha is that they don't need to shout to get to the desired pitch. Patti and Aretha tend to shout their songs. I like to be sung to. Not shouted at.
@Skibone21 No it's not shouting, it's call singing with REAL feeling and emotions. Patti and Aretha are soulful RnB Power Vocalists who come from an era when
singing was singing which is why I appreciate Mica's version of this song more, whereas Whitney, Tamia, etc are Commercial RnB/Pop Vocalists though I love them too, but they are not in same league as those Veterans. Nothing anyone can, could, or will say that will make me believe otherwise. With that, I now file this case as closed.

This is a beautiful song regardless of whether Mica or Tamia sings it. I agree with the those who say that they are both totally different singers and styles and can't really be compared; they both did a great job. I do prefer Tamia's more dramatic Whitney-fied version however...
@chocbear4u2 I love both of them just as equally. They are in different octaves, but both of work for me. Awesome song, lyrics and delivery by both ladies.
I'm sorry she sounds beautiful but Tamia went deeper and pulled something out that Mica did not do. I believe she could have but didn't. I always believe the org is better but not in this case. Sorry. HELL NO

I always thought it this was Tamia's song, but now I know... and Ms. Paris is saaagin. I fell in love with this song when I 1st heard Tamia, but I think I like Mica's version. The best way to describe it is... I hear a grown woman in Mica's version and a young woman in Tamia's version (she was I think 19 at that time).
All the info I can find say that Mica recorded it 1st but I thought it was on Q's Jook Joint before her version came out. Tamia sang it on Jook joint and again on one of her solo projects.
Quincy Jones re-made this Rod Temperton song on 1 of albums, introducing the lovely & talented Canadian singer, Tamia. However, I've loved this original smokin' version from UK's "Soul Sister #1", Mica Paris. Another highly underrated talent. This is on her incredible "Whisper A Prayer" cd,
Please someone tell me where Mica Paris is. As much as I love Tamia, Mica flat out O W N E D this song, you said it best Linelia I love me some Mica, I was in London the 1st time I heard this in 1993 and I went out and purchased this CD the same day and I still play for people who don't know this was the original. @MrFocus316 Mica owns every inch of this song from the verse to the hook, beginning to end......Tamia did an outstanding remake of this song, but Mica Paris did this beautifully and owned this!!!
I've been a fan of Mica's since she first came on the scene in 1988. Her voice still sends chills down my spine. Youtube live versions of her songs and hear her vocals go to an unearthly level. Mica is truley AMAZING.
Mica Paris IS the original of this song, and, although I do like Tamia......You can definitly NOT compare the two. Two completely different vocal capabilities which I think Mica to this day is immaculate.
Tamia recorderd this track 1st in 1990...Quincy Jones whom produced it was also in the video do your research.....but whoever sings this song I love it...I love the song not the person who sings it.....

I never heard this version before. I like it. Sounds different that the Tamia and Jennifer Hudson version. Quincy likes to experiment and was able to utilize the 3 ladies to produce the sound he wanted to play with at the time.
Mica is killing this here!!! Tamia is my girl and all but this is MICA's!!!!! Some1 posted that this version didn't make it 4 a reason. I wanna know just what the hell they mean with a comment like that??!!! SORRRRRRY BACK AT U!
Mica owns this song. Mica should have been a big star. I saw her live at the Front Row in Cleveland, Ohio. She had her only US hit "My One Temptation" on the charts. She killed 'em!!! She was only about 19 at the time.
@eris518 This is straight up soul and coming from the UK I mean just because someone from the UK outdid an American its ok. Tamia version was ok but it had too much of a commercial feel. It was too slow too and had a pop appeal. But Honestly Mica gave her complete soul on this joint. There aint no other way to put it.
Now I know why the song seemed familar to me when it came out, the Tamia version, you know how you kind of mouthing the words...makes since, lol, I might of heard this 1 somewhere...same with some songs that Vanessa remade...I would kind of sing like Still In Love, by an artist named Angela Bofill, just like Tamia, Vanessa, made it more light and airy as some1 said, Bofill has a smokey soul voice too...like Mica, maybe smokier!
I remember hearing on the radio that this was performed by "a young, new singer named Tamia, discovered by Quincy Jones". The DJ wasn't going all buck-wild or anything (this was an adult contemporary R&B radio station), but I distinctively remember on how they were saying she's a young girl singing a powerful song, and I remember how they were w/ Tevin Campbell, on how young he was, singing "Tomorrow (Better You, Better Me)" and discovered by Quincy Jones. Anyway, I still swear to this day.
However, it says that this song was released in 1993, as performed by Mica Paris. Then 2 years later, Tamia did her version w/ Quincy at the helm. I was 17 going on 18 in 1993, and to this day, I STILL swear that the version I remember hearing (twice) on this R&B radio station I use to listen to back in the day, was Tamia's rendition of this song.
There are a handful of songs that, if remade and done by another, can be performed better than the original performer; sometimes the original is better than the remake. Although this was first performed by Mica Paris, I have to say it was first performed better by Tamia. I didn't even know Jennifer Hudson did this remake. Either way, it was written by Rod Temperton (who's worked w/ Quincy Jones), the same man who wrote "Thriller" and "The Lady In My Life", as performed by Michael Jackson.
Tamia and now Jennifer Hudson can't come close to what Mica did to this track. Quincy ought to be ashamed of himself. Can't NO ONE sing this track like the original cover of the beautiful Mica Paris. All the Love Mica, your voice is INCREDIBLE!!!
@hilljennifer67 so did i. it was only in looking for "Tamia's version" did i see a few rants about her not singing it first. but it was Tamia that made me fall in love with the song back in the day because they didn't play Mica's version when i was coming up.
@ericwilson18 I just learned to day that she was the original singer when I learned of J-hud's version. I like this version, and Tamia's...J-huds...em I like it but the beat has to go.
Wait, hold up. I never head this version before, and almost forgot about the Tamia version. This version is really nice. However, I'm going to lean towards the Tamia version. I'm already feeling like I want to hear it. No disrespect to this version because it is nice and well done. But I really think I like how Tamia did it better.
Tamia was not 15 when she recorded this.. she was 18 or 19 at best when this was recorded... she was born in 1975.. not that it takes away from the vocals because she is an amazing SINGER!!!...
This is and old fashion R and B style with a touch of jazz song on the low key style. But after Quincy refined the production and with Tamia's sexy jazzy style-well It sounds better. Tamia owns this song!!!!
This is more of a smokey old fashioned jazz style sprinkiled with Rand B. Sounds a little like Chaka Khan. BUT Tamia owns this song, simply because Quincy Jones added a diifferent flavor-he refined the production value and Tamia -just took it to another level. Nuff said
Wow, didn't even know she was the first to sing this song. This one is a great version too but I'm still gonna be stuck on the one Tamia sung. Both artist sang the song beautifully.
This is a lot more soulful than Tamia's version. I am a little confused because I thought Quincy Jones wrote it. Anyway, i like Tamia's better because I like singing the high parts.
@ OldSchoolLover... The 1 who wrote this is the great Rod Temperton. If u're not familiar with him, I'm sure u're familiar with his other tunes... "Always and Forever- Heatwave, "Thriller", "The Lady In My Life", "Rock With You" -Michael Jackson, "Slow Jams" -w/ Babyface & (Tamia or Coko-- two different version), Portrait, the rest of SWV (only in Coko's version), and Barry, "Mystery" -Anita Baker, Treasure- Brothers Johnson, "Baby Come To Me" -James Ingram and Patti Austin, among others!
@ausar02 ... In essence, it's Rod Temperton's song. No matter how much these females from Mica, Tamia and now JHud put all their might in that song... The bulk of the royalties will go to Temperton-- lol It's true though. However, Mica did sing it first.
@ausar02 Mica Paris first recorded it. It was written by the English songwriter, Rod Temperton, who most know for his writing of many of Michael Jackson's songs, including 'Thriller'. I much prefer this version as it shows the power of Mica Paris' vocals. Tamia's version, in my opinion is weak, too slow and lacked the power in vocal terms. What is good is the length of this song as far too many songs today are too lacking in time.
Actually, Tamia recorded this song in 1995 not 1993 so it would appear that Mica sung it first. I do agree with you that Tamia's version is better but this is nice too.
holy shit, i never knew mica did this originally, i knew of her songs from back then but not this one, was jus tryin to find "thru the rain" done by her back then and came across this original. to be honest tho tamia"s version to me is way mellower. u go mica, soundin damn good tho !!!
I am a middle-aged woman and have been told all of my life since I was a child, I have great taste in music and singers. MS. MICA PARIS OWNS THIS SONG TO THE BONE! It should have been No. 1 all over the world! Tamia sounds like a child and her version is too overproduced to cover her inadequate thin voice (she has gotten better with age and experience). THIS IS MICA'S SONG, BABY!
This is a 100% solid soul classic that stands head and shoulders above anything else out there. The songs that are up there with it are often Mica's too? B-)
Tamia is a Canadian R&B singer. She is also married to basketball player Grant Hill. She was already pretty big in her native Canada in the early 90's, then she came to America and sang this song for Quincy Jones' album: "Q's Juke Joint." And it was released a as a singer, and gave her notoriety in America. She did a good job of this song though. It sounds completely different than this and sounds more airy, and less sultry.
this is my first time hearing this version, i've loved this song since i was a kid. I love both Tamia's and Mica's voice, they are both great vocalist and they have their own style. so lets not argue who's better people they both did it justice. What urks me is when people butcher a remake. I tell u what they both sound a hell of a lot better than most of these singers today lol
I love both versions. Just because they are two different keys. I like that Tamia's was very high pitched in a soprano voice, and that Mica's original was kind of deep and sultry. They both have their own style and hotness to them. With that being said though, I do love Mica's better than Tamia's.
Mica by far to me has the rich (ALTO) soultry power voice that didn't get the attention needed here in the U.S. America's music industry needs to redefine what real talent is and return back to our Soul musical roots. The music business has been in a Famine far to long for GREAT singers. How fortunate to have grown-up in an era when soul R&B artist who could really sing inspired a generation; who ruled the air waves were plentiful. But Tamia's Soprano range fits this song better.
This is the version. Sorry but Tamia & Q's version is too "produced" and Tamia's high notes aren't effortless like Mica's beautiful tones. Mica created this and Tamia's version is another Quincy "stylization". That's all.
Well, technique-wise Tamia wins hands down, you have to agree. She hits the notes almost effortlessly. I also love Tamia's version more because her voice just fits the theme of the song IMO. :)
Just thought I would jump on the bandwagon. LOL. Tamia's version was ok, but Mica own this song. I didn't care for Quincy's production. I think Narada produced this one. That's why you can hear that early Whitney, Mariah's Vision of Love and Tevin all up in here. Especially the bring in the ending. Narada always go for that last moment and make you bring the song home (Tell Me What You Want Me To Do, Vision of Love, Saving All My Love) production just awesome.
Mica does sound good, BUT if you talking about heart Tamia's version does it for me. Yes, I heard Tamia's first and it doesn't matter her version is undoubtedly the best! Sorry Mica fans. To each his/her own.
I'm sorry, but Tamia blew this song out of the water. Yes, this version is good, but not nearly as passionate and heartfelt as Tamia's version. Tamia, by a long shot does this song justice -- AND I've seen Tamia in concert 4 times and she sounds EXACTLY the same live.
You should be sorry, because saying that means you have no musical taste at all...Mica is the OWNER of this song, more sultry, sexy and not screechy like Tamia's version!
No she/he simply has an opinion...lol and likes the one that you doesnt think is the best. Opinion...you know...like an asshole...everyone has em? YOU posted your a opinon because you wanted to and she/he posted theirs...Simple.
I have loved Mica from the first album with "My One Temptation". Her problem is the US doesn't know good quality sometimes. Example, Will Downing. For Mica, her career could have been great except that everybody (Al Jarreau [Feels So Good], Tamia [You Put a Move on My Heart]) covered what should have been her signature songs simultaneously while she was in the studio recording them. And because of their "pull," released before her original. This was like a shot in the gut and the career.
Very nice. Classy and sultry. I've always been curious about how Paris' version sounded. I confess to having heard Tamia's long before Paris'. Tamia's version bothers me a bit because it really is over-produced (the horns at the end come out of nowhere and they just don't belong). I also don't like that Tamia's ad-libs get a little crass at the end. However, I do like the key that Tamia's version is pitched in.

This is MICA'S song! Tamia ruined it with her overproduced screechy vocals, and the fact she was fucking Quincy Jones is the only reason she got to record it, so go fuck yourself Tamia. All of you give Mica the true credit she deserves, this is a more sultry, mature and beautiful version than Tamia will ever be able to produce with her nasty screechy three note voice, just STFU, Mica is the queen and Tamia can only hope to be as good as her!
wow. that was a lot if hate. does Tamia owe you money? kill your dog? is Mica your aunt or something? why can't we just enjoy them both? i think they both give the song something special. neither one of them wrote the song, so i can't feel bad about having multiple versions.
i would assume that both tamia and mica have mutual respect for each other as singers, and what they have to bring to the table... if i were a singer i would hate to hear my fans tearing down another singer. i give mica enough respect that she wouldn't bash tamia for singing the same song...
I don't see what the big fuss is about considering NEITHER one of them wrote the song. Mica does not own this song and neither does Tamia. It's a song! It is nothing to get worked up over. The song is almost 20 years old anyway. I'm sure Mica could care less that Tamia recorded it anyway.

I like Tamia's version way better, maybe it's cuz i'm used to her version.hers sounds sexier, mica's is okay, but tamia killed her with her remake.either way it was a great song for the 90s.
Mica Paris does have a powerful vocal delivery but let's not discount the fact that Tamia was only 18 or 19 when she covered this song (with Quincy Jones production). So to Tamia's credit she did this song absolute justice and agreeably this IS the only song in history where both original and remake are to me.....timeless works of art.
I have to say that this is the ONLY song in history of songs where I LOVE both the original and the remake! Love Mica's original "lounge sound" and Tamia's "soundstage sound".
Can you post "Can't seem to make up my mind"?? I can't find it anywhere. It's from this same CD. It's fire just like this one. I love this woman's voice!
Just to think Tamia thought she was doing something when she attempted to sing this song. She needed to sit down somewhere and let real vocalist do the singin'!
Im 18 and a lot of people in my generation dont know about mica paris. My mother graduated high school in the 80's so when I was young all I ever listened to was old music. Prince, Mica paris, Teena marie, and Foxy Brown (You got to have J.O.B if you wanna be with me!!)
Oh you ARE young. Please check out Gwen Guthrie, who wrote and first recorded Ain't Nothing Going On But The Rent (got to have a J O B if you wanna be with me). A real talented latdy who did some great writing and collaboration and died way too young.
Nice! Found out this was the original from the page with Tamia's version. I love a good singer so go Mica. Now I'll look her up and learn more about her career.

It was too slow too and had a pop appeal. But Honestly Mica gave her complete soul on this joint. There aint no other way to put it.

@eris518 I agree thats what I like about Tamia's version is the last 1:00 other then that both beautiful renditions.

I love Mica Paris!! but, Im sorry Tamia is light and airy as a summer breeze on this. She cant be touched

Sorry guys, Tamia owns this one. Mica's version is fairly boring.

MoviesTubeYou0675 1 year ago
However, it says that this song was released in 1993, as performed by Mica Paris. Then 2 years later, Tamia did her version w/ Quincy at the helm. I was 17 going on 18 in 1993, and to this day, I STILL swear that the version I remember hearing (twice) on this R&B radio station I use to listen to back in the day, was Tamia's rendition of this song.
MoviesTubeYou0675 1 year ago
There are a handful of songs that, if remade and done by another, can be performed better than the original performer; sometimes the original is better than the remake. Although this was first performed by Mica Paris, I have to say it was first performed better by Tamia. I didn't even know Jennifer Hudson did this remake. Either way, it was written by Rod Temperton (who's worked w/ Quincy Jones), the same man who wrote "Thriller" and "The Lady In My Life", as performed by Michael Jackson.
MoviesTubeYou0675 1 year ago
Tamia and now Jennifer Hudson can't come close to what Mica did to this track. Quincy ought to be ashamed of himself. Can't NO ONE sing this track like the original cover of the beautiful Mica Paris. All the Love Mica, your voice is INCREDIBLE!!!

This is and old fashion R and B style with a touch of jazz song on the low key style. But after Quincy refined the production and with Tamia's sexy jazzy style-well It sounds better. Tamia owns this song!!!!
Quasar1800 1 year ago
This is more of a smokey old fashioned jazz style sprinkiled with Rand B. Sounds a little like Chaka Khan. BUT Tamia owns this song, simply because Quincy Jones added a diifferent flavor-he refined the production value and Tamia -just took it to another level. Nuff said

However, Mica did sing it first.
xetal7917 1 year ago
@ausar02 Mica Paris first recorded it. It was written by the English songwriter, Rod Temperton, who most know for his writing of many of Michael Jackson's songs, including 'Thriller'. I much prefer this version as it shows the power of Mica Paris' vocals. Tamia's version, in my opinion is weak, too slow and lacked the power in vocal terms. What is good is the length of this song as far too many songs today are too lacking in time.

Mikizzle15 2 years ago
this is my first time hearing this version, i've loved this song since i was a kid. I love both Tamia's and Mica's voice, they are both great vocalist and they have their own style. so lets not argue who's better people they both did it justice. What urks me is when people butcher a remake. I tell u what they both sound a hell of a lot better than most of these singers today lol
MissJaynet 2 years ago 8
I love both versions. Just because they are two different keys. I like that Tamia's was very high pitched in a soprano voice, and that Mica's original was kind of deep and sultry. They both have their own style and hotness to them. With that being said though, I do love Mica's better than Tamia's.
Mikizzle15 2 years ago 4
Mica by far to me has the rich (ALTO) soultry power voice that didn't get the attention needed here in the U.S. America's music industry needs to redefine what real talent is and return back to our Soul musical roots. The music business has been in a Famine far to long for GREAT singers. How fortunate to have grown-up in an era when soul R&B artist who could really sing inspired a generation; who ruled the air waves were plentiful. But Tamia's Soprano range fits this song better.
miseththeymiseththey 2 years ago 4
This is the version. Sorry but Tamia & Q's version is too "produced" and Tamia's high notes aren't effortless like Mica's beautiful tones. Mica created this and Tamia's version is another Quincy "stylization". That's all.
tinseltowntunes 2 years ago 5
Well, technique-wise Tamia wins hands down, you have to agree. She hits the notes almost effortlessly. I also love Tamia's version more because her voice just fits the theme of the song IMO. :)
phanzio69 2 years ago
Just thought I would jump on the bandwagon. LOL. Tamia's version was ok, but Mica own this song. I didn't care for Quincy's production. I think Narada produced this one. That's why you can hear that early Whitney, Mariah's Vision of Love and Tevin all up in here. Especially the bring in the ending. Narada always go for that last moment and make you bring the song home (Tell Me What You Want Me To Do, Vision of Love, Saving All My Love) production just awesome.

All of you give Mica the true credit she deserves, this is a more sultry, mature and beautiful version than Tamia will ever be able to produce with her nasty screechy three note voice, just STFU, Mica is the queen and Tamia can only hope to be as good as her!
twilliger123 2 years ago
wow. that was a lot if hate. does Tamia owe you money? kill your dog? is Mica your aunt or something? why can't we just enjoy them both? i think they both give the song something special. neither one of them wrote the song, so i can't feel bad about having multiple versions.

i would assume that both tamia and mica have mutual respect for each other as singers, and what they have to bring to the table... if i were a singer i would hate to hear my fans tearing down another singer. i give mica enough respect that she wouldn't bash tamia for singing the same song...
