For example, just before RAGE was released, gamestop claimed the DLC you got getting it from them was "exclusive" to them, BULLSHIT!! toys r us had it too. And to top it off TOYS R US gave u the strategy guide and a $20 toys r us gift card on release day for free!! Basically paid $40 for $100 worth of goods!!!!

i bought a game marked as 'new' today and when i got to the register they went and put a disc in the case and i was like "is this new or used?" she said its new, it was just out of the box.. so i bought it.. then i thought about it for a few minutes and took it back for a full refund.. i don't mind that its used, its just the principle.. they are deceptive and i'm tired of buying new games and getting them opened or f*cked up or used
It also depends on the manager of that GameStop becuase my town has 2 GameStops I go to the first one becuase they treat there games and customers. The second GameStop In my town is a total crap hole they sell crappy games there and the manager there is a big guy who try's to be nice but really can't treat his used games right . So if you have more than one GameStop in your town go to the better one.
I wanted Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition (has cards hanging with manuals with addon cards with pins) and they gutted the game, claimed it as new(still 39 bucks), took the scratched up game case from the shelf, put the disc from envelope in the case, and they were no add ons, so they just tried to charge me for the ORIGINAL gran turismo! fucking liars and when i left i saw the lady roll her eyes behind my back and i was like BITCH!

I used to like Gamestop. Every time a new game came out then I would go there to get it. But after a while, I learned to hate it. I went to Gamestop to buy Pokemon Rumble Blast for the 3DS on the day it came out. But the manager said it didn't come out until the next day! I told them that if they checked the Nintendo website and watch the TV commercials that it came out that day but they didn't even care and were completely rude about it! That's not how you treat a customer!
I refuse to buy games from them when they are opened. I am positive that gamestop does this so they can sell used games as new. They try and claim it is to protect from theft.. If that is the case just use display boxes.
I worked for them, they treat you like absolute garbage, I had top performance numbers on the board for weeks and months, but their idea of good treatment is far from ethical... although my original post was fueled by pure irritation, I can speak from direct experience. I now work for a far better company.

I think what they mean by "New" is "Never been sold out of store / played." btw, they keep they take the game out of the case and put it in a cabinet because it takes up less space and time and lowers the risk of people stealing the game. Imagine if they had to stack them all on a cabinet or if someone could take the game right off the shelf and walk off with it. also, they put stickers on to INFORM you if it is new or used. imagine if i bought a game without a sticker. it could be used OR new.

All they do is remove the shrink wrap and put the case on the shelf then put the came in back. If you want to get a game with the shrink wrap still intact go to walmart or meijer or best buy or any of the other places that sell games. They do it to prevent theft. Other stores lock the games up so all you can do is stare at the cover. Don't buy games from gamestop if you hate them so much.

@CoolVids19 Yes unfortunately they still do this. For example I bought Grand Theft Auto IV a week ago and sold to me as "NEW" and the lady pulls out a paper sleeve with the game in it and puts it in the case when it's opened, NOT in the shrink rap. So yeah they still do this.
My last rant, but if gamers would quite trading in their games for pennies, it would really hurt Game Stop. If people stop giving their stuff away, it'll really hurt Game Stop, since they make most their profit from trade ins.
To really stop Game Stop and hurt their monopoly, is by simply avoiding them and QUITE giving your games away to them.
Once they get fewer and fewer trade ins, they won't be making money, and when you hurt their pockets, that'll be the end of them.
Also, when Game Stop has those sales on the PS2, Game Cube, and Game Boy Advance games like buy 1 get 1 free or buy 3 get 2 free. You never really save money. You would think you would be receiving 1 or 2 games for free. But since their prices are so expensive, it's still paying for them. You could find those same games cheaper on eBay auctions.
It's just ridiclous already. The trade in credit they offer for your games is a joke, you really don't go far with what you're offered.
Gamestop is wrong for doing that. The first/last time I bought a "new" gutted game was 4 years ago. The case is all screwed up because of the price tag sticker, and not to mention a whole bunch of dirty hands touched the case and got it all scratched up on the top of the case.

In the USA, they actually do discount used games though only slightly, like five bucks, I have heard.
Here in Europe the local GameStops are pretty decent and very much like any the other game stores. A year old game usually has a price of 30-40 euros, 20 if it does not sell well. The old budget titles do have the plastic wrap on them on the shelf and the newer titles are stored behind the counter, I only buy used very old games so I don't know the specifics with the new ones.

Also, I agree about them selling shitty used games. I bought one from the online store (big mistake) and it came in a cracked up case that wouldn't even close. I returned it and went right around the corner to PlayNTrade and got a copy that looked new.
I was at my local Gamestop again this past weekend, I wanted to buy my son a Game. It said new on the cover but they tried to slip in the disk and sell it as new. I refused the game unless it was in shrink wrap. I just left the store. These people are breaking the law!!

I don't know if anybody's suggested this yet but have you tried applying "Goo Gone" on the sticker residue? I use it whenever I have to remove annoying sticker residue and it's quite effective. :-)
@taggsmcgee it depends. On DVD cases or Blu ray cases if you put too much goo gone it'll wrinkle and warp the outer plastic that holds the paper sleeve of the case. I had it happen twice. By the way, Game Stop charges way too much for used games. I seen PS2 games like Kingdom Hearts sell for 19.99 used and then saw a few brand new shrink wrapped copies at wal-mart sell for 19.99 NEW. You tell me what's wrong with that picture?

I've seen shit as old as pong in Play 'n trade I even once saw a shrink wrapped bag of neo geo games and accessories and a console sell for $1000. I tend to find them a bit more pricier then Game stop hell you can even probably include Play 'n trade in this rant as well the only reason not to is that it's an alternative to game stop and they sell a bunch of vintage shit.

First of all when you express your displease for this policy to a gamestop employee, you should not have it thrown back in your face as if your a worthless bum comming in to test out all the games but buy nothing. I know this happens, I've bought games that gamestop did this to me. But I just bought a game today, and it is sealed, and even as no stickers on it. I'm not going to say this is happening on a large scale, or even that I didn't just get a lucky copy of the game, but I am saying it is a fairly good sign.
The wrap that my games come in are clear, so there's no reason to remove it. Also, I hear the employees often remove the games and play them to test them, making them not new anymore.
Gamestop has every right to gut video games for representation on the floor. Just because it's a law doesn't make it universally right. If Gamestop were to adhere to this law than: A. Games would inevitably be stolen and therefore would B. make it to where Gamestop could not represent any of it's product on the shelf making it impossible for the consumer to browse. Also, if you wanted the product so badly new, than why didn't you make it a point to buy the product when it was released?
The funny thing is, buy a full price game in plastic, go home and take the plastic off gamestop is like you can't get your refund because its been opened. but buy a full price new game without plastic from gamestop cant even argue with them it was like this when you bought it. smh.

Good video Jak, I dont purchase much anymore at Game stop but the one that I go to, I have never had a issue. All the games that I have bought are new in the shrink rap. I also dont buy used anymore because most game now offer add-on content you have to buy if you didnt buy the game new.

I used to like Gamestop. Every time a new game came out then I would go there to get it. But after a while, I learned to hate it. I went to Gamestop to buy Pokemon Rumble Blast for the 3DS on the day it came out. But the manager said it didn't come out until the next day! I told them that if they checked the Nintendo website and watch the TV commercials that it came out that day but they didn't even care and were completely rude about it! That's not how you treat a customer!

I think what they mean by "New" is "Never been sold out of store / played." btw, they keep they take the game out of the case and put it in a cabinet because it takes up less space and time and lowers the risk of people stealing the game. Imagine if they had to stack them all on a cabinet or if someone could take the game right off the shelf and walk off with it. also, they put stickers on to INFORM you if it is new or used. imagine if i bought a game without a sticker. it could be used OR new.

All they do is remove the shrink wrap and put the case on the shelf then put the came in back. If you want to get a game with the shrink wrap still intact go to walmart or meijer or best buy or any of the other places that sell games. They do it to prevent theft. Other stores lock the games up so all you can do is stare at the cover. Don't buy games from gamestop if you hate them so much.

My last rant, but if gamers would quite trading in their games for pennies, it would really hurt Game Stop. If people stop giving their stuff away, it'll really hurt Game Stop, since they make most their profit from trade ins.
To really stop Game Stop and hurt their monopoly, is by simply avoiding them and QUITE giving your games away to them.
Once they get fewer and fewer trade ins, they won't be making money, and when you hurt their pockets, that'll be the end of them.

I got offered 25 dollar credit for a Xbox 360 elite with wireless controller and HD cables. That's total bs.

Also, when Game Stop has those sales on the PS2, Game Cube, and Game Boy Advance games like buy 1 get 1 free or buy 3 get 2 free. You never really save money. You would think you would be receiving 1 or 2 games for free. But since their prices are so expensive, it's still paying for them. You could find those same games cheaper on eBay auctions.
It's just ridiclous already. The trade in credit they offer for your games is a joke, you really don't go far with what you're offered.

In the USA, they actually do discount used games though only slightly, like five bucks, I have heard.
Here in Europe the local GameStops are pretty decent and very much like any the other game stores. A year old game usually has a price of 30-40 euros, 20 if it does not sell well. The old budget titles do have the plastic wrap on them on the shelf and the newer titles are stored behind the counter, I only buy used very old games so I don't know the specifics with the new ones.

Hmm, maybe its just your particular Gamestop? I purchased Dead Space 2 the day after it came out, and my Gamestop sells their new games WITH the shrinkwrap, without stickers. Trust me - your video made me check cause I haven't played it yet. LOL
Also, I agree about them selling shitty used games. I bought one from the online store (big mistake) and it came in a cracked up case that wouldn't even close. I returned it and went right around the corner to PlayNTrade and got a copy that looked new.

I was at my local Gamestop again this past weekend, I wanted to buy my son a Game. It said new on the cover but they tried to slip in the disk and sell it as new. I refused the game unless it was in shrink wrap. I just left the store. These people are breaking the law!!

@taggsmcgee it depends. On DVD cases or Blu ray cases if you put too much goo gone it'll wrinkle and warp the outer plastic that holds the paper sleeve of the case. I had it happen twice. By the way, Game Stop charges way too much for used games. I seen PS2 games like Kingdom Hearts sell for 19.99 used and then saw a few brand new shrink wrapped copies at wal-mart sell for 19.99 NEW. You tell me what's wrong with that picture?

I've seen shit as old as pong in Play 'n trade I even once saw a shrink wrapped bag of neo geo games and accessories and a console sell for $1000. I tend to find them a bit more pricier then Game stop hell you can even probably include Play 'n trade in this rant as well the only reason not to is that it's an alternative to game stop and they sell a bunch of vintage shit.

Gamestop has every right to gut video games for representation on the floor. Just because it's a law doesn't make it universally right. If Gamestop were to adhere to this law than: A. Games would inevitably be stolen and therefore would B. make it to where Gamestop could not represent any of it's product on the shelf making it impossible for the consumer to browse. Also, if you wanted the product so badly new, than why didn't you make it a point to buy the product when it was released?

@david179057 you haven't been going to GameStop enough then. There have been about 20 instances going back to the N64 Days that I have personally experienced GameStop attempting to sell me a opened copy. By the way it is people like you who keep assholes like GameStop in business.

i got Blur for £20 cus i live in th UK, from GAME, the full price is £41, iof it was gamestop, they would charge up the ass, i was used, GameStop are SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good video Jak, I dont purchase much anymore at Game stop but the one that I go to, I have never had a issue. All the games that I have bought are new in the shrink rap. I also dont buy used anymore because most game now offer add-on content you have to buy if you didnt buy the game new.

gamestop does give reduced prices on opened or used games i got 100 dollors off on my laptopcuz it was the one on display at officemax so tht was cool

Yeah its not new i got a "new" dj hero 2 turntable bundle from gamestop and the second i started up dj hero the damn turnrtable couldnt scratch im returning this tommorow or tuesday depening on the weather here in new york -____-

I agree with you that gamestop does some dumb shit. I agree with the many points that u make in this video. I have watched many of your videos & agree with many points & concerns you have with various products & services.
However, I see why gamestop employee's unwrap some of their merchandise. It helps to have every game displayed, and if it's case is available. Your arguments are good, but can you give us more insight into the law. Is it ok really put an unused disk in an usused case & sell it

@supernorst No, Unused or not it is still the same thing. The moment the factory shrink wrapping is removed it is considered Like New condition. New is original Factory condition. Point Blank.

@jakthebomb ok man, that makes sense. Thanx for charifying. I like stuff to still be shrink wrapped myself when I buy. Yeah if they take it off, they should sell it as "like new" condition, and not plaster the case with stupid stickers

Thank You times a million, I've been saying the same thing for yrs and never could figure out why they do this ridiculous bullshit. I've gotten in arguments with gamestop employees too and they always gave the same lame ass excuses. We def. should all go after them
