I just finished the game. The only way i enjoy it is if i play for half an hour and stop. its VERY repetitive, usually having the "you cant get to this without running through a forest with a ton of axemen" and having tons of linear obstacles that you have to go out of your way just to unlock the way to continuing.
'Kickthedamcat' says the game requires intelligence but thats seriously only to understand the concept behind the story. The gameplay is 85% of the game.. sad to say. Just my opinion.

I love Silent Hill but i have never wanted to be in a shiny place as when i played Alan Wake. The story made the game, and the ending was jaw dropping. If you like Silent Hill, Penumbra, or Resident Evil play the game..

Coffee thermos do suck.The ammo is like oxygen in outer space and there is no way you can fight enemies once you run out of ammo. The only option is run to the nearest light pole and hope enemies don't catch up. But all of that I can live with. The most annoying thing about this game is that there is no hint system. Even the most obvious games have hints for puzzles. This game just leaves you stuck by a pole, with zero ammunition and with a flash light surrounded by enemies.O and Lady Gaga sucks
Of course the blocking system has a tight timing system.. what were you expecting? You get hit with the ax and then you still are given a chance to dodge and not get hurt?

by the way alan wake came out last year, it was called ghostbusters. it plays the exact same way, instead of a flash light you have a proton beam. Ghostbusters played a lot better and the story made sense. there is way more variety in that game and much more satisfying to destroy ghosts, then shadow people. oh and the ending to alan wake sucked and the fact that its going to have multiple dlc tells me that it was an unfinished game. the ending made me feel like i wasted my money.

I was torn between the two in Nightmare Mode because the enemies are so much more difficult. There are 13 levels in the 6 episodes if you look at the level select option. As far as the DLC comes out at least they've promised something AND given you a free card for the content so you don't purchase it. How many games offer that?
The reason there isn't more variety in weapons is because no one takes an AK-47 to go hunting and it's a hunting town. You're going to find hunting rifles and hunting shotguns because that's what they do in small towns in the woods. As for the flashlights.. what, would you rather have only one? Certain flashlights are better in certain situations. for example the heavy duty flashlight versus the latern. Do you want more power or more battery life? Make the decision carefully (con't)
because in Stephanie Meyer's universe that -she- created that's how things play out. Simply stating that it's stupid is not enough for a review. You actually have to go in depth about it if you want to review it. The coffee thermoses are just extras that you can find and collect. The reason they're coffee thermoses is because the coffee in the diner is "A damn good cup of coffee." It's even an achievement. They tie into the game, you were just too stupid to see it -_- (con't)
The story isn't confusing if you actually have half a molecule in your head to think with. I understood what was going on after 1 full playthrough and that's ALL IT TAKES because they explain EVERYTHING throughout the game. Maybe you weren't paying attention or skipping cutscenes but everything makes sense. When writing a script for a video game the universe you create is subject only to your own imagination and creativity. It's why Meyer can say vampires are fast (con't)
The dodge mechanic works perfectly fine. If you have trouble with it then you're just garbage at the game. All you need is general timing and an ability to sense where certain attacks are coming from (a lot easier to do in surround sound). The entire town is basically a simple community, their main export being wood. Wanna ask about axes and chainsaws? Fuck, even in the first -level- you go through you're moving through a saw mill. Why -wouldn't- there be that many tools laying around. (con't)

Alan Wake was boring. The gameplay is incredibly repetitive and the suspense is ruined completely by the titular character's constant inner monologues. The game is just lacking in variety and gets old fast.

by the way alan wake came out last year, it was called ghostbusters. it plays the exact same way, instead of a flash light you have a proton beam. Ghostbusters played a lot better and the story made sense. there is way more variety in that game and much more satisfying to destroy ghosts, then shadow people. oh and the ending to alan wake sucked and the fact that its going to have multiple dlc tells me that it was an unfinished game. the ending made me feel like i wasted my money.

alan wake isnt a copy of alone in the dark..its just a remake of it with better visuals and different story...even if alan wakes development started in 2003 or whatever alone in the dark realesd 2 years before dat..therefore alan wake can be called a copy of alone in the dark!!the gameplay in both are same the atmosphere is the same...and they both got almost same critic scores... 6/10,7/10!!

But Alan Wake is horrendous. Waiting for so long, I expected something better then just a single game mechanic spread over 7 hours of boring gameplay.
Oh wow, the graphics are nice. Professional Voice actors! Lots of dialogs and wow wow wow. That doesn't excuse this game being no fun AT ALL.
Also, I'm dissepointed in Sam Lake appearing in this piece of crap. He made the stories in the Max Payne games, so it's shocking to find out he written this mediocre story...

It was supposed to be a free roaming adventure game in the beginning (watch early gameplay \ trailers), but it ended up being more of "tunnel" game like Max Payne. Only problem is that the action is not even close as good \ fun the max payne game was. + max payne had a much better atmosphere and story. And WHY NO PC VERSION???? FUCK U REMEDY

Because one allows you to defend more effectively while the other allows you to be more offensive for a small amount of time before wasting more batteries. I was torn between the two in Nightmare Mode because the enemies are so much more difficult. There are 13 levels in the 6 episodes if you look at the level select option. As far as the DLC comes out at least they've promised something AND given you a free card for the content so you don't purchase it. How many games offer that?

The reason there isn't more variety in weapons is because no one takes an AK-47 to go hunting and it's a hunting town. You're going to find hunting rifles and hunting shotguns because that's what they do in small towns in the woods. As for the flashlights.. what, would you rather have only one? Certain flashlights are better in certain situations. for example the heavy duty flashlight versus the latern. Do you want more power or more battery life? Make the decision carefully (con't)

You actually have to go in depth about it if you want to review it. The coffee thermoses are just extras that you can find and collect. The reason they're coffee thermoses is because the coffee in the diner is "A damn good cup of coffee." It's even an achievement. They tie into the game, you were just too stupid to see it -_- (con't)

The story isn't confusing if you actually have half a molecule in your head to think with. I understood what was going on after 1 full playthrough and that's ALL IT TAKES because they explain EVERYTHING throughout the game. Maybe you weren't paying attention or skipping cutscenes but everything makes sense. When writing a script for a video game the universe you create is subject only to your own imagination and creativity. It's why Meyer can say vampires are fast (con't)

The dodge mechanic works perfectly fine. If you have trouble with it then you're just garbage at the game. All you need is general timing and an ability to sense where certain attacks are coming from (a lot easier to do in surround sound). The entire town is basically a simple community, their main export being wood. Wanna ask about axes and chainsaws? Fuck, even in the first -level- you go through you're moving through a saw mill. Why -wouldn't- there be that many tools laying around. (con't)
