@DannyDelReyo yes. There's one word I can't make out. "_______and a matchbox, 5 cents." or "in a matchbox". Good question. Will need to invistagate this some. Whatever it is the grand total of matchbox and contents or another object is a grand total of a nickel.Maybe in mexico, in 1965 a doob was a nickle. That's about 5 years before I knew about the stuff. A lot of words have been used for the substance, but I can't for the life of me match any that I know with what I'm hearing.
@DannyDelReyo A friend of mine says the line is: "2 sticks and a matchbox, 5 cents."
If you stop the video at the end...look carefully at the video, although it's cut off at the top. Look at the matchbox too. Thanks again for watching.
Thank you so much! I was 12 when this came out, and had no clue what Acapulco Gold was (yet), and evidently neither did our local AM station, which only played "safe" stuff--and it climbed up the charts. I'm a nondrugger, but I still love this song.
same with me ,it was on the radio like one week and then boom it was gone i had no idea what it was about, but still thought it was a great song..it took 40 years for me to find it again...cool
Thanks for the words and comments Ray. I was also 12 in 1965, but never heard this played on WLS, or just can't remember. Saw the movie after high school. A double feature with Fritz the Cat. We called the nondruggers "straight" back in the day. How times have changed. Not a druggie either...but then again never considered a little weed a drug. But old age has put a stop to that too. Damn
@titostacos Never too old. Just lose the connections. That's the ONLY reason why. Thanjs for asking. Not a day goes by that I don't search the house, or go out on the hunt.

Lyrics below courtesy of Lyrics Bay...
Me and Martha took a honeymoon
Below the border 'neath the silvery moon
She was eighteen and I was twenty-two
Now we're just a-doin' what the young folks do
We're goin' south to get that Acapulco Gold
Ain't nothin' it can't fix
Old dogs can learn new tricks
When the streets are lined with bricks of Acapulco Gold
RoyFive 2 years ago
We 'bout decided against the whole thing
But then we thought that we ought to swing
Figured that the southland held the keys
To cure these cotton pickin' sniffles and sneeze
We're goin' south to get that Acapulco Gold
Ain't nothin' it can't fix
Old dogs can learn new tricks
When the streets are lined with bricks of Acapulco Gold

Zig zag pottum wottum diddum woddum doo
Hey diddle diddle twenty three skidoo
Me and Martha sure had fun
Acapulco Gold for everyone
We're goin' south to get that Acapulco Gold
Ain't nothin' it can't fix
Old dogs can learn new tricks
When the streets are lined with bricks of Acapulco Gold

@stonedrolling why'd old age put a stop to that? Is it bad for old people?
