a past project I was in used this unit, and I think my music partner picked it up for $50 (back in 1996?), we were amazed at the the Juno-106-like sounds and that is largely what it is! Hell to program though. I would hold on to this for the rest of your life. ;)
@zibbybone I'd love to hear a Zoom Q3HD put through it's paces. In all my YouTube searches your video is the best so far for sound quality. I don't want to buy one & find it's no better than the Kodak Zi8 I already have. I'm hoping my new Yamaha MG82X mixer fixes the sound issues I'm having. I know nothing about sound recording but my ears tell me it needs fixing. I want a simple way to capture decent quality experiments as I learn synths & making tunes without using a PC at all.
@funkb0x The video quality of the Q3HD is not that great and there is hardly any "controls" for video. Your Kodak Zi8 probably has better video quality. I see the Zi8 does have a mic input, is it stereo? Either mono or stereo, you'll still have to attenuate a line level signal if you want to run it direct into the mic input like I did with my 2008 videos with my JVC HD7.
@zibbybone The line-in on the Kodak Zi8 at times shows signs of working how I want & then it just goes all tinny & destorts. I did think it was the mixer but now I realize the camera can't handle the signal strength. I might have to lower the internal volume settings even more. The video is superb quality & the Macro is very useful too. I'd be far happier with better sound quality tho.
@funkb0x Unfortunately at this price level of the Zoom & Kodak, we are not able to get both quality audio AND video. I just shot my first video using both Zoom Q3HD (for audio in and wide shots) and JVC HD7 for close-ups but haven't had a chance to edit. I'm anxious to see how it will turn out.
@zibbybone I just purchased a Zoom Q3HD myself from Ebay. I figure if it doesn't suite my needs I can always resell it. I understand the sound on cheap cameras isn't going to be great but if it works well for LIVE YouTube video recordings I'll be happy. We never get to see & hear true sounds anymore because people edit video & sound so much. In a sense it's a false representation of what things realy do. I know people who spend hours editing their 5 minute YouTube videos & It's not my style.
@funkb0x Lighting makes a big difference, too. The MKS-7 video was shot in a dark bedroom studio with a single incandescent bulb. The Korg Lamba/MG-1 and Korg DVP-1 videos were also shot with the Q3HD, but at my furniture shop with lots of flourescent lights.
@zibbybone Thanks. I'm not too worried about video just yet. Anything HD is going to be better than VHS. :)
I have a 200 Watt SAD lamp for lighting when needed. It's my sculpting lamp for tired eyes. It turns a room into bright natural daylight & excellent for making video come alive.
My main objective is to record OK sound quality. Months I've put up with poor sound on video & it has to stop. I refuse to add sound to video via PC. I want to play live, not edit. To keep it real, so to speak.
Great tune! Sounds like a long lost Supermax joint.

Did you record the sound through the MIC input socket on the Zoom Q3HD direct from the MKS-7 or was the sound sent to a mixer 1st?

@funkb0x I ran the MKS-7 & Fantom X6 into my Mackie 1202 and then into the Q3HD's Line Input mini jack.

@zibbybone Seems a very simple way to catch quite good quality sound experiments.
Thanks for the reply & great informative channel. Subbed & thumbs up.

@funkb0x Since I'm not writing or recording right now - just noodling, the Q3HD is great for quickly recording ideas.
