I love the show genuinely - trust me i adore it but ..... (sharp in take of breath) i think the theme tune for all its iconic status is a little pants, i don't know what you'd have instead maybe take Murray Gold's trumpet fanfair for a spin?
The woman in the green jacket in this clip seems to be as bonkers as bollocks, I think she must have stopped taking her medication when they filmed this
To me the Doctor Who theme isint scary , it sound to me like it's the music of the universe itself , well , if the universe could play music that is , but i souppose it is abit scary , it depends on how it makes you feel when listening to it i rekon .
This piece of music was made by Delia Derbyshire using;a wobbulator, broadcast test-tone generators, broadcast white noise generators,a plucked bass string mounted on a wooden box,a stack of valve oscillators, hundreds of yards of reel to reel recording tape, philips reel-to-reel recorders,a razor blade and hours and hours of blood and sweat and patience! The later Pat Troughton version had been remixed with heavy feedback and the addition of electronic spangles featuring the feedback.
Delia Derbyshire's versions from the 60's plain no sparklies the second with the sparklie bits and third with the scream at the end of the episodes are the best versions!
despite the change of times, the original doctor who themes for the first seven are still amazingly good in light of eccleston theme and tennants orchestral theme. my personal fav was the big finish them for the 8th doctor
I love the original doctor who theme because it's still incredibly modern. the new theme is too polished and mainstream for my liking, there's nothing spooky or alien about it anymore
I hope they do a documentary like this for Doctor Who @ 50

The theme tune for the current series omits a lot of the original sounds that graced this original.
