  • Fail! LoL!!! he's decent for the crap that's out now, but it's not emulating the original enough.

  • close but no cigar. some wrong chords the G# should be a G# 13 add 9 I believe and some others are not the voicings Wes used but it's passable..

  • Merci bien - this is a great lesson. It doesn't matter if you play with a pick or with your big toe - all these "critics" complaining about metronomes and thumbs - what a bunch of prize, know-nothing c*nts!!!!

  • Where is the tempo?

  • Wes is the Thumb!You just have one.Wea didn't use a pick!

  • Utilisez votre pouce lors de l'étude de cette pièce, elle change la perspective,

On dirait bien, maintenant et essayez votre pouce

  • the rhythm is horrible , this is such a good tune to play in a laidback way

  • Nice.. thatnks for the tips and progression in slo-mo

  • Nice amp! Quad Reverb owner here too!

  • great stuff, I picked up a trick or two watching your style-THANKS!

  • Music consists of notes and rhythms (among many other aspects/facets) . you are missing those two main ones.

  • hey jackass, its wes montgomery ( JAZZ) its SUPPOSED to be crazy

  • Its not "crazy cool wes montgomery" to play the incorrect rhythms. Its just incorrect.

  • A bit ironic that you played it with a pick but still very informative. Thanks.

  • i agree its sloppy and tempo and rhythm is off

  • Thank you.

  • Pretty sloppy man.

  • most important rule ...Smile just like wes.. no offence but this doesnt sound at all like wes

  • Uhhh..It's always important to be in tune, especially with octaves...

  • he played only with his thumb or very

often, so he was called like this.

and it's the name of the song ^^

  • he is not calling himself the thumb, its the name of the song,

  • Why is this guy calling himself "The Thumb"?

  • its good but it think the chords, in the middle bit are e diminished 7th, f sharp 7 sharp5, ab 13th and amin 7th, , also after the riff bit the chord back to the g7th is the ab13th, cheers

  • One thing nice about Jazz is that you are free to alter the chords any way you want. That's what Jazz is all about, not duplicating what someone else has done. Until you understand that you will never be a good Jazz player.

  • What you fail to get is that, this is an instructional video and it should be correct.

A part of jazz is about improvisation however its not all about that, there are strict structures to follow. Its about knowing the rules to break. Jazz is not about one thing, its more like a language made from different musics. It consists on many parts, true that to be a good player you need to find your own voice, however you need to pay dues and learn from the musicians beforehand.

  • It's an instructional video true but the fact is the harmonic structure of the chords is a personal thing. Every Jazz player tends to do it a little differently. The instructor here is not telling you how to play exactly like Wes Montgomery but how he would do it. The basic chord structure of a jazz piece is rarely played as written. That is the beauty of Jazz. PS, I'm a Bass and keyboard player (35 years). I believe you are too hung up on playing it precisely like Montgomery.

  • Well well i dont really care how long you have been playing, I think that you should learn a piece exactly especially when you are learning, then once you have it, then you should play around with it,change chords, harmonies, time etc etc... I just think you want somebody to argue with.....a little bit sad really just play your bass, keyboards whatever you do,,,

  • I think it's sad you had to criticize this guy because he didn't play it exactly the way you think he should. It's none of your business how he plays it. I think you were trying to show how great you are and how much you know about music.

  • I think you are sad to be bothered by it, maybe you dont get enough sex or something. Whats your beef? get a life. Its non of my business but hey THIS IS A FREE WORLD apparently and this is why people can comment, putting this video on youtube FOOL.

  • u have to have a corn on ur thumb like him to find it nice haha

  • good job, man. listen, ignore all of these jealous-ites that disapprove of your use of a pick. the last time I tried to thumb an entire Wes tune it swelled up like a lollipop for days! (I have a nail now, thankfully)

  • réapprenez tout,et surtout prennez un métronome, sans tempo cela ne veut rien dire.

  • mec c'est ouf j'suis d'accord mais lui il s'en fou du tempo car il joue lentment pour nous apprendre a jouer comme Wes

  • Fingering is all wrong dude. Never groove like Wes until you learn to play WITHOUT your pinkey. Trust me on this one.

  • Hhm, I don't think Wes played with a pick bro.... he used his thumb.

    Merci comme meme mon pote.

  • lol, ur right! wes never, in his life, used a pick...maybe he's just practicing. good job lol xD

  • yeah hehe i memeber readin somewhere that he practiced late nights after work and used his thumb so he woudnt wake his tots; im guessin it stuck...wes rules man, oh and charlie too

  • hehe not bad man, timings a bit off but who needs it right, its jazz. keep it up.

(try "four on six" or "unit 7" some of my favs)

  • he is giant you ignorant tool please children hush. go sit at your little table

  • are you on somethin man....crack is wack dude, stick to ovaltine, tastes much better

  • ughh timing is everything in music most especially in jazz. phrasing is everything, something wes was simply amazing at. fingering is right btw but the timing is rushed. but keep it up just listen youll get it.

  • WRONG! sorry too tired to explain why. wrong notes, bad rhythm, not jazz!

  • Rest

  • u did good. =D i like the octaves (or octives) in the song...even though u made one mistake u did great =D according to some comments, i hear u used a pick...BUT IT STILL ROX! xD

  • you hear he used a pick??? wow. gigglyjazzhooch rox!

  • xD ty lol

  • Congratulations, my friend. A valuable lesson.

Check a version of "West Coast Blues" I recorded with a friend, if you please. Thanks.

  • I REMEMBER YOU!!!! WHAT'S UP?! YOUR VERSION OF WEST COAST BLUES ROX!!! xD

  • BAQUE I REMEMBER YOU!!! xD BTW YOUR VERSION OF WEST COAST BLUES ROCKED!!!

  • japprécie beaucoup le son de votre guitare, de quel modèle s'agit- il ?

  • Jacobacci modele Sacha Distel

  • achetez un métronome !

  • une marque à conseiller ? un discount ?

  • @jeangophile j'ai un gros zizi

  • It's D7#9 for the opening chord, sorry for the typo

  • lmfao

  • You are playing the incorrect chords, in the beginning of the tune it goes D7b9 G7, also the bit before the octaves is F7b9, Bm7, E7b9, Am7, when you do the last chromatic chord run at the end when you resolve to G7 don't play a bar chord, Play G-F-B-D, mute the A string.

  • o.o THANK YOU!!!
