On a countdown, you need to leave 2 seconds of black so that your video won't be cut off. It's an old rule of thumb for tv and commercials.

Nice work. I have made one of these before in Sony Vegas but it didn't have the sweep. I am trying to figure out how to do that.

In After Effects I just animated a mask. As I remember I sectioned the screen off like a pizza and tried to hit those points every 6 or 7 frames. Remember, the sweep should hit the bottom of the screen 15 frames from the start and you should hit the top again on the 30th frame.
