  • amazing

  • i always make sure i save some money first for a good pair of shoes all the time then i buy some pedals

  • I really liked the space station setting on this when I tried it out at my local music store. My only complaint is it's a bit of pain to turn on and off. Now that I know more about line switchers and stuff I might give it a go again.

  • can i use any kind of 3 button footswitch? or does it has to be the FS3X from Digitech? thanks

  • is this pedal the same than the xp300? i mean i need that space station effects.

  • @lui505 Well, the Space Station preset on the EX7 is a faithful reproduction of the original XP300 preset. If it's just that tone you need then yes, the EX7 will do the job.

But the original XP300 has many other presets that the EX7 doesn't have.

  • Heya, I was wondering, did you ever had any problems with the pedal itself, meaning it'd be sturdy or anything like that. Not sure how to explain it, but did you ever experience it squeeking while moving it up and down. Mine does, but it's brand new so I might have to use it often so it'll smoothen up.

    Great demo btw!

  • hi. ia have a question. can the whammy on this pedal do 2 octaves up or only one. because all the videos i see hera only show one octave

  • @TheJHimself Hi, the EX7 definitely can do 2 octaves up and 1 octave down. I'm a bit of a fan of The Edge and U2 and the song Even Better Then The Real Thing and Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me need a 2 octave up shift and the EX7 can do it perfectly fine.

    Hope this answered your question.

  • hi! Q about the ex7:

im thinking about buying it. is it possible to have only the expression-effect and only the distortion effect on? can i engage them seperately?

  • @ValveReactor Hi - you can't really have only the distortion on it's own although there are ways around this, like having distortion with,s ay, the flanger and turn down the wet signal of the flanger down - leaves you with just distortion.

Only modulation without distortion is no problem -just like I did in my video above.

I have written a full review on the EX7 on musicgear-reviews DOT c o m - search under effects for my EX7 review.

  • @ValveReactor yea you can bypass the effects and only use the distortions by selecting 1 on the model knob and holding the toe forward until you get a yellow blinking light from the use the model knob as the selector for the distortion pedals

  • i'm using 2 amps. the soundpath is split with the ABY box you can see right of the EX7 in the video. with that i can have the clean (or main) tone either simultaneously, on its own or just the EX7.

It's possible to achieve the same with 1 amp but then you would need something like a mini-mixer to bring the 2 paths back to a mono path.

  • great sound

  • space station>sex

  • ok guys. the whammy or this pedal?

  • if all you want from the whammy is either 1 or 2 octaves up or down, then this pedal can do it perfectly fine plus giving you all the other tones.

But if you need the Whammy's other presets then you have to go for the whammy. I think it's fair to say that most would be more than ok with the whammy presets in the EX7.

  • This emulates classic pedals. The whammy is a classic pedal. This does a lot, but my advice would be to get the real whammy along with other effects. Will be worth it.

  • what pedals emulate the space station pedal? i agree with you on the other effects, but this is the cheapest option to get the space station synth sound

  • thats true... I keep praying that they'll reissue the spacestation... But i do know that for the edge's shimmer you can split your signal and put one through the line 6 verbzilla in the octave setting...

  • Does this pedal have stereo ins and outs?

  • i think its mone in and out. that said, the EX7 has 2 outs for WET and DRY signal.

    Cheers

  • @cornelpunx

It has 4 output modes: Mono mode,Mixer mode in stereo,Amp mode in stereo, and Amp+Mixer mode.

To change the output mode, just select model 7,then hold the heel down until the light flashes green, and then choose an output setting by moving the model knob.

    Settings:

    Model 5=Simultaneous Amp/Mixer outs.

    Model 6=Stereo Amp outs.

    Model 7=Stereo Mixer outs.

Then press the toe down to exit when you have selected the mode you want.

    Hope that helps.

  • @HybridChoky

Cheers. Will check this out. That'd be awesome - I didn't read this in the manual.

  • Its under "Stereo Output Setup" at the end of the manual somewhere,it comes just before "Calibrating the Expression Pedal"(Also a very usefull one to know) and "Using the Optional FS3X Footswitch",after that is the warranty and specs.

  • well now i know what i want for my birthday

  • Love the tone ! Can you post a demo of the AC-4 clean no effects. sounds great !

  • I would love to hear you strum some chords through a single coil guitar on your AC4 ( clean no effects ).. pretty please :)

  • Great demo, when the pedal is off, does it work as a volume pedal? tks

  • question, :-P, is the ac4 better than the pathfinder, i mean, is the sound better?

  • you can't really compare them. My AC4 is an all original JMI built amp from 1962 while the pathfinder is new stock. The tone from the AC4 is beautiful. really warm and dynamic. The Pathfinder sounds great but doesn't have much character of its own. I hear Vox releasing re-issues of the AC4 - definetly something to check out. I haven't heard them yet. Vintage ones like mine can be quite pricey on the market. I got it for £350 but have seen prices up to £1000. I think up to £400 is justified.

  • my only question is

would you recommend buying this thing?

and is it worth its price?

  • The question is if u like the shimmer tone yourself. There r 2 affordable shimmer options: the EX7 & the Line6 Verbzilla. I prefer the EX7. Owned the V'zilla, sold it. Hear the EX7 in action at one of our gigs. What u hear is the EX7 in Space Station mode with its built in DOD Preamp as clean booster & my EH Memory Man Delay with modulation. Hear the shimmer kicking in at about 1min into the clip. Look in my videos for "Gabriel Kain live @ Upp Magazine (2008-10-27) [Part 4]".

  • ahhh, i tried one of these EX7's out at my guitar center today, it really doesn't have what i'm looking for sadly, it provides nice tones and sounds, but not what i'm into.

i'm trying desperately to get hold of an old Digitech XP300, but obviously no luck because they're so rare now.

  • There's one right now on ebay...us$400

  • i knwo this comment is old but if u bought it for that much you are an ideot. No offense because new this pedal is 200 on musiciansfriend.

  • Maybe you are the idiot cause I wasnt talking about Digitech's EX7, I was talking about the Digitech XP300 Space Sation pedal wich is like collectors rare effect...ohhh and by the way no mean to offense!

  • well then say that u were talking about the space station

  • WHERE DID YOU GET AN XP300

i want one so bad. found one on ebay but didn't grab it up quick enough. please, i would blow a dude for one of those.

  • Its just a matter of luck, you have to search in pawn houses, flea markets, ebay, everywhere!

  • The ex-7 is on clearance at guitar center for $99.98, but you must call the store. Price is not available online.

  • I would go with less FX but it´s a nice tone!

  • Hi! the splitter is good but for live the switches are too close together. Live I'm using the larger Morley ABY. Still the splitter in the video is solid.

  • Do you have to wear socks to get those sounds?

  • is fundamental hahahahah

  • ofcorse you do.

  • apologies for the fashion here LOL :)

  • thanks

  • Heh, I went looking for a video demo of the pedal after reading your post on the forum and this was the first video I found. Nicely done Punx.

  • hey man - good to see you here. cheers for the comment!

  • first veiw!!!

    thats some pretty cool sounds!

ive been looking at this pedal for a while so can i ask for a first hand opinion?

  • I like it loads. I used to own the Verbzilla for these kinda tones. The EX7 does a slightly more orchestral tone compared to the 'zilla which is a bit more reverb-y. The fact that the EX7 has loads of classic Dist tone (eg Big Muff/TS9/etc) that you can freely add to any tone is an extra bonus. Only downside to me is the rocker pedal has a v short way. great for wah work, less optimal for fading shimmer in and out. still, i give it 8/10. it's a keeper.
