  • I Really Like The Video From Your Piezoelectrics do not use magnetic force to align as I said in the video.

  • Your Video Is Very Useful Sharing Piezoelectrics do not use magnetic force to align as I said in the vide

  • wow very interesting

  • ESTOS SON LOS VIEJOS GIROSCOPOS AHORA SON PIEXOELECTRICOS MUY BUEN VIDEO FELICITACIONES

  • where did u buy that rc heli and how much was it? please answer

  • Hi,

How can I buy this Piezoelectric Gyroscope?

    Please I need it.

    Regards

    Max

  • can it handle modern 3d?

  • I would actually watch this if it didn't have annoying background music on it.

  • very interesting thx

  • thank you for your great video, very informative and entertaining! Thanks for making it straight to the point.

  • vrey nice

  • Do you remember, not saying your old, Tx/Rx that used reeds that would vibrate at afrequency to adust different parts of a 'plane

  • what is the best begginner helicopter

  • Please show us a RC hele working please

  • if u make a rc coaxial helicopter to stabilize it without a tail rotor use a even number of gears and it mechanically stabilizes but if u try that and the rotor spins the wrong way reverse the poarity

  • Oscar! They removed my old bionics! I feel naked!!! Rudy! Install the new servo in my legs!

  • Thanks Dave, this video must have slipped through the net, I've only just found it!

    Thumbs up...

  • 1-800-boring 69

  • Piezoelectric "Movement Sensors" are NOT solid state. The proper general engineering term for these devices is the "Vibrating Structure Gyroscope", which uses a A piezoelectric material (such as a quartz crystal) which can be induced to vibrate via an oscillating magnetic field. Now, lateral motion of the enclosed assembly causes the center of oscillation to shift in the opposite direction due to the Coriolis force, which is measured to produce a signal relative to the rate of rotation.

  • What do you mean by "feedback principal"?

  • Have you ever heard of MEMs gyroscope chips? Very small digital or analog chips that measure up to 3 axis and are are insanely accurate. Beats about every mechanical gyro ever build. Have fun! :P

  • I did not know they had these. One of the things on my list of crazy stuff to do is to design and build flying machines. I need to learn about models because it would be a lot cheaper than experimenting with full-size craft!

  • uhhhhhhh, LOSER!!!!!!!!

  • 1:06 This is the same thing how the hpi Dbox drift assist works. It senses movement of the rc car. Thanks

  • Do you remember "reeds" these used to vibrate for each channel in the receiver

    ... I think?

  • yeah big step up in technology.

  • me and my dad fly helis and if the hobby took his much devotion to mannually adjust the gyro gain and everything we would definaitly just be playing base ball or somthing

  • Man u rock and inspire. Keep it up bro.

  • can me buy the gyro?

  • Cool...

  • thanks.....you are a very interesting man dave!

  • whats it for

  • do they have gyro on full size helicopters(if not - why not!!!)

  • Very informative and nostalgic video. AAA+++

  • In the old days, we had to fly upwind.. both ways!

  • i don't know what that means but it sounds difficult.

  • thanks for the knowledge sharing!!

  • superb sfuff especially the tail rotorless

heli in the 26 knot wind

i would buy one if they still made em

keep up the good work and how about a total idiots guide to setting up a helicommand boy is it frustrating !!

All the best from Mat ,Nottingham uk.

  • what the hell of the gyro function to the helicopter

  • I like the Gulf 76 ball holding up the tail of the copter... haven't seen one of those since I was a little kid...

  • thanks for sharing knowledge to us... many thanks...

  • kurwa jak ty ciapiesz ciap ...

  • You rock man! thanks

  • are you goin to sell that old gyro

  • cool[;

  • cool

  • Thanks for solving a more-than 10 years question... How gyro works ??

greetings from a heli beginner Brazil friend

  • Thanks!

  • Your welcome. :-)

  • hehe i love you man "today will be one of the good old days" hmm waow!

  • Thank you for your words. :-)

  • I have been drawn to R/C helis, my dad was on the design team for guidance systems installed in the first US manned space capsules, brought home blueprints to show me as a kid in the 60s. Principles were same but a bit more complicated. Each gyro was controlled by a computer and simple programs in basic language and input from the astronauts. These little "toys" represent years of technology, it is easy to take this for granted. Thank you for this tutorial which brought all this back to me.

  • Thanks for the kind comments. Glad to bring back some nostalgia for you and your dad. I worked on INS systems on Phantom Jets with Big Gyros too and they were very complicated, compared to this, but now, Piezoelectric is the ticket.

  • I got an old mechanical gyro for £5 in hobbystores bargain bin!

  • Cool. Make a video and post it here.

  • Thank you for the demo,Dave. To know the past is to appreciate the true value of the present.

  • Thanks for the kind words. Your so right. I wish others would look back and see where we came from, and not assume the new technology simply "appeared from no where" ..LOL.

  • thank god that aint still in the new modles

  • Yep.

  • Thank you for the science lesson, now I know how they work :).

  • Thanks for the comments and watching.

  • great

thanks for showing how this works.

Can you tell us about the heading look funktion.

    Have a nice time.

  • Thanks. It HL is hype to me. If it really locked, it would not be controllable. It is however, a stronger forced setup, which finds its center again after a maneuver. Thanks again.

  • Great history lesson!!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • cool i am starting in to planes

  • Great. Thanks.

  • Great Tech! Thank you!

  • Thank you too.

  • LOL.

  • that's pretty awesome. perhaps we could see it in action on an actual heli if u don't mind.

  • Thanks. I would not put this on any of my present day helis as I use Piezos on all of them now due to power draw and weight of this old dinosaur.. See my blade 400 videos or my Blue Ray, to see them fly with Piezo gyros.

  • the old days must of been awsome! XD

  • It was a challenge for rc for sure. Thanks.

  • NightFlyyer,

Love all ur heli vids. BTW its not gyroscopic phenomenon, but gyroscopic precession that causes it to move that way. I'm a full scale Flight Instructor. Sorry had to correct. SEMPER FI

  • Thanks. I think I cleared that up in my description box a while ago. I used the wrong words. Semper Fi back.

  • My last post meant say WOW now that's just cool as hell.... LOL sorry lost my W key for a min. Awesome video. IF you got any more old electronics vids in mind to make please make them and I will subscribe

  • No problem. I understood. Subscribe anyway, as more are to come. Thanks.

  • Wow not that is just cool as hell. Wish i knew people like you in my area but I this was a really cool Thanks.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • great vid

  • Thanks kindly.

  • hi sir i love all your videos man there good. i think i like to fly too but no cash im in asia philippines hehe but il try be like you hehe (sorry for my english sir)

  • Thanks. You can be what ever you want, if you set your mind to it and never give up. Your English is good. No need to apologize.

  • We used to have a concept 60 light up the engine once never again and sold it (SNIF)we never find who would teach us to fly so we stick with the airplanes, the thing I can remember was the fact that you had to turn on the giro and it started to make a lot of noise this would explain why, oh and a big 6 cell battery like the ones RC electric cars run with. long way we came now as you mention.

  • Thanks. Your so right. You have been there, especially when you talk about the gyro sounds.

  • Nice video but not correct when talking about modern piezo gyros. Basically a Piezo Gyro is a small piece of piezoelectric material which is mechanically stressed when subjected to a rotational motion which changes the impedance of the sensor, this is then turned into information suitable for controlling a servo. They are angular velocity sensors and have nothing to do with measuring the earths magnetism as you stated in your video. Thought I'd just point this out.

  • Your right. It was a quick comment I made in only one video take, as it still has to align itself with no movement before it will work. I was more trying to explain the old school way anyway.

  • thank-u

  • Your welcome.

  • Great video man. I always wondered how and why a heading lock gyro works so well. Now I know. Thanks a lot for the info.

  • Thanks very much.

  • nice vid thanks! informative

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that.

  • thank you for that detailed demo -I now know what a gyro is and how they work -old and new!

  • Your very welcome. Stay tuned.

  • Interesting and educational mechanical lesson!

  • Thanks very much.

  • very cool vid its amazing how much the hobby has evolved and how so many more people are getting involved, keep them coming again nice job on the vids

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate it.

  • Sir yourself and Subzero have some of the best info, I relate to how you present very well, feel like I'm backin Vo-tech class lol been many years! do you have any vids on how the electric motors evolved? and how to go up to brushless I have bought my first Heli, a HBK II but cost keep me from all the fancy stuff! Thank's so much love the History lesson's pls. keep em coming!

  • Thanks very kindly. See my video on "Cork Motor runs on Lithium power", but I don't have any others...so far...

  • great video! 5 stars.

so if the heli would piro in one direction constantly, the old-school gyro will tilt one way constantly right?

it's actually a motor with two fly wheel attaching it to the shaft?

  • Gyros have really nothing to do with preventing pirouetting. They just act as shock absorbers and counter act any jerks, jolts of wind, etc. You still have control with your left stick. It helps with the tail, but you still have to learn how. Kinda like power steering. Still steers, but it is easier.

  • what i was asking is, if the heli is piro at a constant rate, the mechanical gyro will tilt one sided?

  • Yes it does, and it had to be compensated for by using the left stick to override the gyro. The servo only moved about an 8th inch (each way) at max, so it wasn't overwhelming. Todays gyros do the same thing and why they can be swithced on or off from the TX to be able to do maneuvers like piroetts. We could not shut ours off, so just learned to fly that way.

  • Thanks. We sure have. Cant wait to see what is next.

  • Very cool, NightFlyyer :) When adjusting the gain on the old style gyros, could a rheostat or pot of some sort have been subbed for soldering in and out various resistors? My electronics knowledge is pretty sketchy. Just curious :)

  • Actually, I removed the variable resister that was on the gyro for this video, and centered the pot on the servo instead. It really was only used to adjust the centering of the servo. Those VR 's weren't too small in those days, but it worked.

  • hey you look like you know a LOT on rc heli's!!! ok the thing is i have been in rc cars for a long time and now i am looking to get in to heli's what would be a good first heli. and not to big so i can fly indoors and out. thanks

  • Thanks. Well take a look at my blade cx2 and honeybee heli vids and you can make up your mind by watching them fly, etc.

I am also sending you my 9 helicopter tips, and you may get some insite there too. It also helps to be a bit coordinated, as helis require both sticks moving all the time.

    Keep me posted.

  • Awesome video, thanx, I LOVE MY BLADE 400, and you can get a set of blinking led's on ebay for 10 bucks, night flying is a blast!!!

I did not know gyro's work with magnetism, how cool is that!

  • Thanks very much. I love night flying for sure too, as you know from my other vids.

  • wow i always love your informational videos. the Christmas night fling helicopter was hilarious

  • Thanks very kindly. Glad you got a chuckle!

  • well dave, just shows how much technoligy has grown in the last 50 years!

nowa days , if u think of something that uve wanted, its already been invented by some clever person in japan!, (gotta love the japese and the technoligy)

but im still confused how the new ones work, and i bet those old gyro's were very expensive too!!, thank you for sharing, i enjoyed this video :) 5 stars

  • Thanks very kindly. The new ones work by "Magic"! LOL.

  • your video makes me happy

  • And your comments make me happy! :-)

  • Good bit of history there dave,we have come a long way in r/c,5 stars mate, nice one.

  • Thanks, I cant wait to see what is next.

  • Excellent video. I would've given it 5 stars, only alot of times things were out of focus. Great seeing that 'classic' rc equipment. It really gives one appreciation for what we have today. And you were a part of that with your electric motor tail rotor invention years back!

  • Thanks kindly. Sorry about the focus, but it sure gets degraded when it goes to Youtube. It is always clear before I send them.

Well, the point is clear, though.

  • then i post again:P...nice vid, learned some things there;)

  • Thanks very kindly for your comments.

  • awsome :P

  • Thanks much.
