@InquiringDeist well, the 'song' part is quite easy, if you can stretch your hands wide enough for the spock chords; the secret for stretchy chords; 1) wear your guitar HIGH - at your solar plexus 2) keep your thumb BEHIND the neck 3) put the paw of your hand OUT so as not to get carpal tunnel syndrome. These tips work, i can stretch from the 7th to the 12th fret for chords quite easily. as for the solo, no point in learning allan's; it's a Gminor dorian jam: find notes you like
That line at 2:24 is soo hard to play with the fluidity and cleanliness that Allan has, the not choice obviously is amazing with that tritone line and some of those diminished and augmented triads. but the real mind fuck is how he makes it feel....truly a unique talent among mortals
holy fucking shit is still all I can say... And I got this on vinyl way back when it first came out. My first or second "jazz" record, but definitely first taste of fusion.
@GuitarSlinger2112 right on. some stuff that i kinda "freaked out" on when i was a kid has now since fallen by the wayside. but holdsworth's playing (and particularly this track) has never lost any of it's magic. tremendous music by a one of a kind talent. terms like master and genius get thrown around too often when they should be reserved for people like allan holdsworth.
The solos of course....are astounding....but my favorite part is the bass telegraphing the tail end of Allan's first solo with the quick 'call and response' flurry of notes around 2:23...amazing
@glueforall yeah ..that is fkn cool lol....its funny how much i hear the eddie van halen fair warning stuff, u can tell eddie was listening to alot of allan back then
This song is really awsome! The two solos actually blow my mind every time a hear them!! Allan is fucking insane. I guess he's connected to some spaceship when he composes.
Allan made me realize I was nothing on guitar. But people can digest what I play, and enjoy it usually. But I know I can't touch this guy, but neither can most living guitarists today. Allan....the number one electric guitarist.
at least a million years before his time

it's really rare to find a guitarist with a high knowledge of both chords and single note improvisation, Allan Holdsworth is one of a kind

@ArpeggioBear
Thats true about notes and chords, its always either one or the other, and the possibilities with both, you know.

The solo in this song is beyond wicked. It's in a class all by itself; and it's great to hear Allan actually being a bit bluesy in bits!

This was the first Allan Holdsworth album I heard. I have since spent much time seeking out all the rest of his material. The man is a God!
