  • Very nice! On your channel, it says you play a Gliga viola. Is this the same Gliga you play?

  • @animeviolalord Yes indeed. I figure I'll need a new one eventually, but it's been a loyal instrument over my travels.

  • Very nice. Bach would approve.

Why is it that the A string stands out as much more strident than the lower strings? It is also true on my viola.

  • @cbystroff From what I can tell it's one of those things about the viola being forced to play in a range which isn't suited for it (in proportion to the violin, the viola should be much bigger - too big to play on the arm). Some solutions: the new viola making designs like the Rivinus instruments, and continued experimentations with different kinds of strings. I'm checking out a new avenue, and should be announcing some findings by early next year.

  • @andrewfilmer I recently heard about the viola da spalla, which is tuned lower than the viola, but it shows how a larger viola might be played on the arm. In Kuijken's hands it sounds great. Makes me want to get one.

  • @cbystroff Yes, I've read the research - the most interesting part of it is that it would indicate that Bach may have played both his violin and cello suites.

  • Beautiful, great control, please continue with the you tube lessons for viola, thank.

  • Great! I hope I can play good as you one day. Viola power! ;)

Oh, by the way, are you familiar with a orchestra called A Far Cry from Boston?
