  • Great track. Ok cover.

  • Sandie shaw fuck right off.

  • Morrissey didnt take drugs, he didnt need them ro be reaaally fucked up!

  • To be fair, this is very poor. He's ruined this song. Listen to Sandie Shaw's version.

  • @bigfella1876 You cant compare Sandie Shaw and Pete Dohertey. I prefer Sandie...

  • @frenchielcfc Morrissey is straight edge as far as I know.

  • What attrocious utter utter utter ghastly spittal!

  • Beautiful original, beautiful lyrics, beautiful cover ,

  • Two favourite (and in my opinion the best) songwriters ever Morrissey and Peter Doherty. Morrissey will always be first for me but Pete is hugely talented and this cover is very good.

  • Completely maimed a beautiful song. Doherty should be banned from touching a guitar or going within 10 feet of a microphone.

  • Pete Doherty, the most talented crack head ever

  • Amazing cover :))))

  • OK, so it's all about opinions. My opinion is that this is woeful. In fact it should be banned. Like listed buildings, there should be listed songs. This is an insult to the beauty of the original.

  • i remember listening to this when i was about 15 i didnt know it was a Smiths song for years. lulz

  • Is he back on the smack again? This was pretty terrible.

  • @Olson50

    cunt.

  • @Oh4sure1 Right back at ya, bro. Surely you don't actually think this version is in any way good?

  • @Olson50 Its alright, you know this is just him recording this by himself on his computer so ofc this isn't going to be as good as the smiths, just didnt like your comment about smack

  • @Olson50 This really is dreadful insipid stuff ,christ his fans are sensitive arent they ?

  • Wow, that was bad.

  • dirty swaety skank, ruined a smart track again. fuck off doherty you scruffy little beggar.

  • How to murder a top tune ! I think someone must have woke him up in the middle of the night and then asked him to sing this after hearing it once down a telephone!

  • I think this cover is beautiful.....In fact, I rarely like remakes of any song, but I like to listen to this more than the original, it doesnt have that .....produced deafness if you get my drift..... its not perfect, thats why I like it. And screw all you who can't respect someone else's opionion....people like u r the reason we are forced to listen to the crap that's on the radio nowadays

  • this publicity whore ruined this great song.

  • How can anyone think this is a good cover? His guitar playing and his voice is terrible. He isn't even in time with his voice and music

  • A very poor version of an excellent song. Tripe like this should never make it out of the studio - the Billy Bragg and Sandie Shaw covers show this to be the mess it is. Awful

  • awful!!

  • its like whiny boy with a cold..

  • he looks so fit in this pictureeee! jizz in my pants <3

  • @darondarondaron1234 Now picture him with the needle hanging out of his arm. Still "fit"?

  • STUPID FUCKIN BAG HEED!!!!!!!!!!! WHATS HE ON ABOUT GASH ON THE NAIL? ITS CASH ON THE NAIL?!!!! HE'S PROBABLY TOO OFF HIS FACE TO REALISE!!

  • AND THAT'S HOW TO COVERT A GOOD SONG INTO A BIG PIECE OF SHIT!!!!

I like the Libertines, but, Please!... this is awful, Like to spit into morrissey's face

  • This is a brilliant cover :)

  • strange cover... i can't say if it's good or not

  • @ its not TWAT

  • @78morrissey Well you must be some kind of moron then.

  • Great cover

  • @howdoyoudo118 I think it's just D A and then G

  • Hmm, this guy should maybe take some singing lessons before attempting a Smiths song.

  • doesn t matter where you re from....how much money you have....but honesty and kindness, cause TIME is all we are...

  • This song suits pete to a T

  • Perfect!

  • But about the english-irish feud...I get the outsider's impression that every english person born in an industrial town is half irish or half scottish or half both...and still is english. Realize that there's something called emigration and that culture is acquired not inborn!

  • Woah! I thought that was Ian Curtis for a minute!

  • @nitter123 lol I hadn't noticed that resemblance :)

  • THE SMITHS FTW!!!!!

  • these lyrics are quality,im glad pete done a cover of this, good choice pete

  • Is Irish cool again? He is talented and any miserable town he holds onto should be proud to have him.

  • He is irish? Really? I thought his dad was in the british army? Is shepherds bush really part or Ireland now? Cool...

  • Terrible! Heard better versions in mates houses pissed at 2 in the morning!!!

Stick to what you know best Pete... Drugs!!!!

  • ha ha ha nice one

  • Great

  • morrissey?

  • pete is very shy and lives in his mind i think. i dont know him but its pretty obvious that hes not what the papers make him out to be. hes a genious at the end of the day name me a great musician that didnt take drugs? john lennon, keith richards, bob dylon...could go on forever

  • @frenchielcfc morrisey?!

  • @elephantstone222 Morrissey was the lead singer of The Smiths and he wrote this song. Great songwriter !

  • @frenchielcfc most poets live in their mind imagination is powerfull

  • @frenchielcfc morrissey

  • @frenchielcfc Morrissey never did. Morrissey didn't even smoke. Pete's for to weak to think for himself, he just follows as Carl says and Carl even wrote a song about that part of his nature. So, no. Not every great artist took drugs. Morrissey for one, it doesn't make you any better.

  • @elephantstone24 just makes you saner!

  • I also see a lot of parallels between moz and pete. both appeal to people who feel isolated and maladjusted. And they both seem to be either obsessed-over or utterly despised. they've really drawn some ire over the years but their music means so much to the fans.

  • Stick to the drugs Pete

  • I would give my right arm for an mp3 of this.

  • Id give my left one for an afternoon with you?

  • Wow!

"I'd give my left arm for an afternoon with you"

Is like, the best thing I've ever read.

  • i cant even tell you how many times ive watchd this vid! :D lovely cover. doherty and morrissey, my two favourite people! xx

  • just found this. LOVE It!

  • pete and morrisey are the best songwriters ever. makes you proud to be english

  • morrisey is from manchester and doherty is from northumberland origanily. NOT IRISH. both have irish family obviously

  • Both 1st generation irish. Both adding more than any other 2 artists to british pop music...

  • I´m irish myself but your totally right about that

  • "Irish blood, English Heart".....

  • Yes but I have Irish blood, it is almost impossible to find somebody with 100% pure Anglo-saxon blood, most English people do have some celtic ancestory.

  • My point is that Morrissey himself brings up his Irish roots(were both his parents not from Dublin?) without any Irish people having to. And he returned to live there for a period about 10 years ago I think. He reinforces his Irishness with his spiteful words for Oliver Cromwell. I doubt anyone who considers themselves 100% English has such hatred for Cromwell.

  • Sure but I was just making the point that Irish people are subjective, as in they only consider people Irish who are famous.

Of course Morrissey and Pete have Irish ancestory, I do too, but to say that they are IRISH people is wrong.

  • Fair enough, it works both ways though...

When Irvine used to do well in Formula 1, the English commentators said he was "British", when he cocked up he was Irish!

  • @Morrisseyisdead yep agreed im a half flaherty but i consider my self fully english.

  • @mrfrankhill Couldn't think you've followed Morrissey's career that closely? Seriously name any self respecting Southern Irish man that would wrap himself in a Union Jack flag? Morrissey is always lamenting the loss of English and British identity - would an Irishman. He lived in Rome too - does that make him Italian? His culture, his lyrics and his actions all point to his Englishness and it does not take a genius to work that out!!

  • @Morrisseyisdead Tis true lol, works both ways though..Totally off subject here but the opposite way round is how the English are forever trying to claim Andy Murray as the "New British Hope"..Iv'e even heard him been called English a few times no matter how many times he says he's TOTALLY Scottish and is doing it for Scotland...If Murray was a pile of shitte he soon be "Scottish" again not British lol

  • @mckeeclyde

I've never heard him be called "English", but technichally he is British I suppose... Miserable fucker anyway lol

  • @Morrisseyisdead im Irish and i dont know who your talking about. I dont think anyone said morrissey is irish and you could have gotten your point across without being racist, i thought the potatoes remark was a bit offensive considering during the famine your ever so giving queen came over the sea, he presence supposed to lift the irish peoples spirits when the reality is that it the money used to bring her fat english ass over could have fed alot of starving irish.

  • @Morrisseyisdead Those paddies always do that do that do they? Never knew that.

  • i surprising love this version, partially because of the song and also because pete's got a similar outlook on life to moz. almost, just not as, good as the original.

  • even better in acoustic mode, bet morrissey wud sound good like this also

  • it's nice that he covered the smiths but i don't really like it

  • oh well, i didnt use to like pete doherty, but if he covers the smiths (and this song especially which is my fav of them) then i have to change my mind :)

  • I quite like this cover. Its just that bit diffrent but i will never hear a better version than Bily Braggs. Billys voice suits it so much more

  • i agree! do you know anywhere to get/hear a copy of the bragg version?

  • Billy did an album called back to basics. Thats where i heard it. If i can find it i'll send you it but no promises coz im not sure where it is right now

  • errrm i doubt you heard it on back to basics?

it is on reaching to the converted tho which was album of B-sides

  • I agree, I LOVE the Billy Bragg version.

  • the chords used are D A and G.

    it´s like: D A D A

    GA

    GD

it´s not that hard when you know the chords.

Almost same as bollywood to battersea

  • In the original recording (The Smiths) there's also an Bm in the main riff.

    D A

    DD

    D A

    G D A Bm (that's the single notes part).

And the bridge is another minor chord, Em I believe.

  • Its a great song, an ok cover.

  • how ironic that "Jeane" is essentialy himself.

  • true

  • this is not a great cover, Morrissey's version is the best, though Sandie Shaw's is also excellent.

  • love it, thanks for sharing. Especially like the bits when he gets it wrong :-)

  • Love this cover

  • great cover
