@adcbmw Nothing to do with the driver in this case ofcourse. The robotized SMG gearbox was always known for being very jerky on the most extreme setting. The double clutcher in the new M5 will be much smoother and faster at the same time. However early reports suggest that the new M5 will be a much more rounded and less uncompromising car than the E60. The 4.4 V8 is simply the '50i' engine with the wick turned up. The old V10 was a F1 inspired engine. Says it all really.

it looks like the driver is getting the revs too high and becouse of this the gear changes are a bit slower than it should, if you pay atantion the high gears engage faster

@kanackemitbart hm... i guess i prefer a stick shift. but the bmw smg is fun, too. in fastest mode the smg is shifting very hard - you should try both and on the m5 the smg is much better. in europe you get these cars only with smg!

Yeah good point, it is predominantly going to be bought by driving enthusiasts. But I don't see why BMW assumes European driving enthusiasts have either had their left legs amputated, or have lost the love of a good manual gearbox. The SMG gearbox has never really received anything but bad reviews since its inception in the E36 M3s. It's a shame, as a few people I know have been deterred from buying an E60 M5 due to the lack of a manual gearbox..
