Man. I thought it was reall MMA. Turns out. It was just TKD and Judo. No offense but i don't really believe in TKD as a base foundation. Too focused on kicks. Believe me. I've never seen a (TKD only) match where there was a punch knockout. and if there ever was, it was an amatuer fight. Karate seems like a better base. Way to Go Lyoto Machida.
I think these guys need to loosen up abit, sure they both know things bout fighting but they dont know when to use there knowledge and thats a big flaw
I see Wing Chun vs TKD. Sorry, but I don't see your friend as a real mixed martial artist, at least not in that fight, considering he only showed moves from one art.
people forget that all martial arts do have thier strong points. tkd has helped me in 3 on 1 in the streets the distance on a kicks mixed with my muay thai does work. the leg is 4times as strong as the arms. what works is knowing how your body works and your flow . THAT DECIDES WHAT STYLE WORKS 4 YOU THERE IS NO BEST ART. BUT WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.
i was a wrestler in middle school and my Freind back in school did kung fu(he told me about this style) since he was a kid,he could beat my ass when we were playing.
what you non "WT/WC" fail to appreciate is that our fighting IS in fact poor in MMA. BUT that is because 70-80% of our arsenal is taken from us, groin kicks, throat strick, elbows to noses, palm stirkes to noses, eye gauging the list continues. So i am impressed with Shawn attempt to apply WC, but really its not truly expressing the art to its real optimum, as i say, this is a Sport and form of Entertainment, WT is for the street, where u can be 1v3 1v2, where being on the floor is least efectiv
hey, finally a good win chun match with someone who doesnt completely suck and understands center :). great vid keep up the good work (and ill liked the kicks on that that support legs very nice!!)
@schulleee Thank you my friend for your comment. You are absolutely right. But back then i had only about 1 year of training and beeing offensive was not easy for me. :)
@WingTsunThessaloniki I can never go offensive in wing chun for somer eason i find it hard to actually want to punch someone, i would rather just defend..
@APandaOnPiano Wing Chuns concept of moving foward is rooted in agressive and offensive fighting.if wc is not used agressively and violently it doesn't work well.As the same for most street arts.you cant afford time to dance around and defend.
@APandaOnPiano DONT FORGET CHI SAO. Remember the locks and tie-ups of Chi Sao, and you will have no problem getting in and attacking if you want or need to.
I am actually at a similar point in my training - Once you can seek the bridge with your footwork and really get into your opponent, thats when real Wing Chun happens. Most martial artists (MMA in particular) seem to bounce around like that - like western boxers. But remember your structure. This is an ideal opportunity to bridge the gap and have the element of surprise. I think of my favorite wing chun maxim - "Wing Chun never stops"
@schulleee - I have met several good instructors who demonstrated WC/WT against all sorts of attacks, full contact. But these are not people who like to show off, therefore one does not find them on YouTube.
I agree that most WC practitioners suck, because they train in a very soft way, but there are people who train really hard and who work the doors of night clubs, whom I've met, and I would never want to have a fight with those ones....
I agree good video. and someone was talking about how its the person who fails abosolutely correct and another WT guy said something about its all relative, but in reality, not everyone knows the concepts and theories such as stay with what comes, move forward as the hand retreats, thrust forward as the hand detatches, stick ot the enemy with stepping punches, and utilizing stance inserting step techniques. but if everyone knew and practiced all of these it would all be good!!!
where is the judoka! one with good takedown knowledge would have your back scratching the floor all day lol...go test a wrestler with those leading low kicks! he'd snatch your leg and have slamming on the ground
taekwondo is good for show but in a realistic no holds barred fight it doesnt do well..
@hekoka My friend, at other moments in the fight,he did actually snatch my leg and moments later he locked me! lol...I didn't upload tis moments, because back then i did't know any ground technikes. At that time i had only about 1 year of training (he was experienced)
About the takedown you are right,it's a very powerfull weapon, but only against one opponent. In WT we have some ground technikes, but we try to avoid it.
And i think it's the fighter who wins or looses, not the martial art.
@hekoka so negetive. confidence is much 2 great my friend. i do wing chun wrestling and boxing, tho wrestling is superior 2 wing chun smart boys like me bring ther leg back and step backwards try slamming ang im sprawling deep and standing if i hit ur soloplex ull die b4 gettn da chance 2 do much of anything. dnt disrespect it cuz it has flaws all styles do
@hekoka wing chun has very direct takedown techniques, some quite similar to judo too by the way. a judoka better not come too close or he can just as well be the one ending up on the ground. against takedown specialist those mma guy's high kicks would be even more of a problem than the much faster straight kick of wing chun. i mean he pretty much takes himself down. judo is a sport and they don't train in strikes to defend on the floor because competitions always ends as soon one is floored too
I really love and respect some of the core principles behind Wing Tsun. Using your opponent's rhythm, weight and force against themselves. Your not stronger than your opponent, NOR is your opponent stronger than you. It's that balance that you use and control in order to overcome. MUCH RESPECT!!!
Thank you my friend. And of course, every martial artist has to know and aknowledge that, it's him who fights and not the martial art by itself! This means that loosing or winning reflects him and only him. Not the martial art.
It doesn't matter if you call it WC, YC, or WT. The basic concepts are the same and i think you know it. About the other friend, you must know that these are just moments. He used Judo in other moments, on the ground and did lock me! but i like more the moments where i look good! ;) lol
