  • 56 people can't say hello

  • The best rock-a-billy guitar solo DELETED. It's criminal.

  • Rick had a great voice and yeah he was cute.... but I still liked Dave better!!

  • magnifica

  • Real nice production -- just keeps rolling. And Ricky's playing a Martin.

  • @bluerailroad Yeah, he could afford one! :)

  • cute! it is fantastic......

  • Great song. I was a little boy when Ozzie and Harriet was on tv. That was the old America, the one we lost.

  • Magical vocals and song !!

  • I was startled awake yesterday during a counseling session at the Clinic. This very troubled young man broke down in tears over his 'family situation,' and said in all honesty to me, "Sir, I wish you could take me back to the time you lived in as a young person." I was very careful what I said, but deep down I thought, "Thank God, I got 'hear these songs,' and live their emotions in the context of a generally stable time that they represented. Though not a perfect time, better than now.

  • I'm a fan of Ricky and this was my first favorite song of his.

  • Potverdorie ik krijg kippevel, mooi hé.

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr---WOW what a handsome young man---can't take my eyes off him--forget the song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • damn, fine

  • Probably the most handsomest man in the US in the late 50's. Even moreso than Elvis.

  • There just aren't singers like this anymore and it's a shame. Most of today's singers can't sing for crap, like Justin Bieber. But Ricky is the definition of pure singing.

  • @502DJC justin bieber and ricky nelson have nothing to do with each other for fucks sake man come on your making jb more famous by hating on him i swear to god the day i hear his name on a rockabilly song is the day music is dead to me.

  • I had such a great BIG crush on this person! I can still look at this video & wonder at his looks & talent! My 16 month grand daughter loves to dance to this song with grammie!

  • he has got such a beautiful voice, and face :P x

  • My wife and I are middle class but love singing this song.

  • cia sucks i asked for cia mary lol

  • This was not considered "country" when it came out originally, but I'll beet it could fit in great.

  • happyness of those times came back immidiadly, thank You!!

  • Here comes a 'hot' guy who can sing a song without emotion and girls dig it.

  • HE was Flaming HOT!!!

  • does anyone recognize the guitar player behind ricky in this video?

  • @bilvis48 James Burton

  • Interesting ... Watch this video closely and you'll notice the lead guitarist never plays his solo part in the middle of the song.

Then click on other videos of this song and he plays his solo in the middle which I think sounds better because the version played on the radio had it.

  • @lazarus611 They cut the solo for TV - Can''t have the sideman show up the star

  • Beautiful. Thanks.

  • CATHOLIC CONFESSION. I am responsible for 100 of the views because I saw this so many times. Now tell me how many hail marys i must say

  • @SuperMLOULOU ~ You and my sister had something in common. She loved this song because her name is "Hello." :)

  • @kilkeper100 ~ That's correct and Burton is still making magic with his Telecaster. Clapton did, indeed, play a Stratocaster but surf gutiar king, Dick Dale, got the bonus points for playing his Stratocaster upside down & backwards, changing chords "on the fly." Leo Fender was so blown away with what Dale could do with the Stratocaster, playing from the left side of the strings, he worked with Lansing to create a whole new 15 inch speaker and amp (the "Showman" amp which ran at 100-180 watts)

  • I love this song because thats my name is marilou but it is ritten diffrent

  • Just Fab . Thanks for the post , Tezza the Manch.....

  • yes it's guitar legend james burton , but he's the master of the telecaster to be correct

  • @kilkeper100 indeed it is...played guitar for ELVIS for 20 yrs.

  • And to think Ricky did a song just for me. Who woulda thought it?

  • my pa used to fix his chevy back in wichitta falls

  • Supercute!

  • Goodbye Mary Lou..hello heart! ;) Great song thou...too bad today music so heartless...

  • Though these type of songs in and of themselves stir upwelling fondness in me for the 'days of old,' I think the catayst that makes me crave it more than ever are the constant shrill f-word comments on sites like this that are like a screeching nail of social commentary on the chalkboard of history reminding me ever more strongly of why that 'good old age,' seems more dear than ever.

  • This great 'sing-a-long' pop song was the A-side in the Netherlands, with 'Travellin' Man' as the B-side. In the U.S. it was the other way round.

The single record entered the Dutch chart in July 1961, was a big nr. 1, and charted for a massive 8 monthts...!

  • Is that James Burton to the right of RN?

  • @supsailor1885 Yes, that's Burton....master of the stratocaster along with Hendrix and Clapton. In a plaid shirt no less!

  • WOW VERY LOVELY THIS SONG I AM ADMIRER OF OLD SONGS

  • I wish he did PLAYGIRL. I would have paid double the cost just to get a look at this stud.

  • Ricky was SOOO handsome!

  • @Ulysses61 ohhh yeeeeessssssssssss

  • Ilove his voice and o boy is he cute or what!

  • @THEFLESHMANN1 fuck you man hahahahahahaha

  • @THEFLESHMANN1 thumbs up if you copy other comments....common be original

  • indeed a superb voice

  • In the past there were real singers unlike today's biebers!!!

  • OH MY GOD. he's beautiful. is it just me or does he look like chris evans?

  • Ricky had a great singing voice .... so underated now. what a shame.

  • Needs more cowbell

  • not going to lie...i had the BIGGEST crush on Ricky Nelson when I was younger...I'm talking 3-10 years old. When I found out he died...I was devastated...i'm 14 now and still miss him...i grew up with his music and will never let it go!! <3

  • great song, but i was expecting that solo :)

  • what year is it ?

  • Transported by my "Way Back Machine," I am sitting in Don's Malt Shop, tingly fingers touching the fingertips of Lucille; a pony tailed brunette with a sweet yet mischievous, flirty smile . We plan our date tonight; movies and then 'moongazing' down at Hawthorne Dam. I rush home to scarf down Mom's Meatloaf and mashed potatoes, don a quick shower, almost forgetting my Oldspice, and off to Lucille's to nervously wait in the Parlor til my beauty descends the Victorian staircase.

  • my favorite country song

  • My wife's all time favorite singer. Man, did he have those hits coming and batting those eyes that made grown women feel faint-hearted. Good looks, nice voice, quite a band behind him and great songs--how could he not become a teen age idol. Yet, as a 70 yr. old I still remember all of his songs with fondness, and my wife with some tears in her eyes. You died way too young, Ricky. The world has missed you.

  • those big brown eyes wil do it every time

  • Today would have been my best friend, confidant, my favorite person in the world & MY GRANDFATHERS, 73rd birthday today if he wasn't taken by cancer 3 yrs ago. Ricky Nelson was his favorite musician and i'm soooo happy that i was intoduced to the "good ol' days", somewhat through him. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA & I THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING..!!! i LOVE AND MISS YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW..!!!!

  • @MultiJMC83 Beautiful comments, and very moved by them. Your Grandfather and I are from the same era, and the music of that period will never be replaced. The memories of the happy times at the juke box, and the coffee bars will live forever. God bless your Grandad, and best wishes to you.

  • What year was this song from?

  • 1957

  • Alguém se lembra da Mary-Lou do Ultraje à Rigor?

  • Take these great old videos and dub in quality audio tracks.

  • I like to sing this to my daughter, Revenelle Louise.... I just sing Revy Lou, and it describes the feeling I had when I saw her little face for the first time... She'll always be my baby, and have my heart....

  • good god look how young james burton is! i just saw him about a month ago with the nelson twins. great show!

  • what year is this? its been 12 years since i heard this (i was 7 then) and i still new all the words

  • Ahhhh, this just reminds SO much of my daddy and how he always explained how listened to Ricky back in the late 50's and early 60's!!

Thank you so much daddy for giving me this wonderful nostalgia!!

    I'l see you in heaven!!

  • Ricky Nelson must be the most beautiful man in music history.

  • Ricky...............;-)

  • damn ricky was gorgeous, beautiful, handsome, fine, hot, cute, ect ect!!!!! I love you Ricccckkyyyy!!!

  • i like it

  • I came here to hear the solo :(

  • Gosh, I used to keep Ricky's picture in my drawer with some of my clothes. I would open the drawer and there he was....and I dreamed he was by boyfriend!

  • 49 people can't get a mary lou cause they are gay.

  • Imádom ezt a dalt!

  • this is the birth of pop music.

  • @zendishwasher2 - Sorry - Not quite - written by Gene Pitney - "B" side of 'Ttavelling Man' in 1961

  • A lot of comments about the great James Burton but let's not forget the bass player Joe Osborn who was also in Rick's band and continued on to be one of the great session bass players. Joe's bass riffs are familiar to millions on hundreds of hits but he remains virtually unknown. Still alive and playing too.

  • SOMEONE PLEASE SOMEONE OUT THERE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT KIND OF GUITAR WILLE NELSON IS PLAYING IN THIS VIDEO PLEASE

  • nelsons people, prolly his 2 queer sons, edited all of Burtons parts out.

  • @MrSuperfrogy I <3 the Ozzie and Harriet show to :)

  • ........

  • Brilliant stuff. Back in the day when guys had elastic bands for legs :) xxx

  • Where is the highlight of this song, the vintage guitar solo by James Burton?

  • Loved that show.. Ozzie and Harriet.. Ricky always sang at the end of the show.. Mr. Ricky Nelson was a true Artist, May he R.I.P.... And the lord be with him. Thank you so much for the post.. simple times back then it was great.

  • wonderfull song

  • @Idgymey - Very true - I loved it when it first came out - still do

  • Fantastic singer..He and Elvis were my favorites..Sure miss them..

    May both REST IN PEACE...

  • Zeppelin Did an awesome version of this song

  • Ricky Nelson was one cool dude.

  • Freddie did it better.

  • On this song, James Burton, standing behind Ricky and to his left, plays the all time greatest guitar break between verses of the song, and it has been cut from this clip, around 1:08. It is amazing that over 2 million people have clicked on this link, most of them, like me, probably very disappointed that this lick has been cut. Do you happen to know why it was cut out?

  • @Billnn54 - If you would like to hear the entire song, including James Burton's great lick, go to the You Tube uplink of the song by jabbola. You will be glad you did.

  • @Billnn54

There's another clip of the song in the more traditional "Ricky playing for the high school dance" scenario that usually appeared at the end of the Ozzie & Harriet show. It has the solo, but Burton is playing a Fender Jazzmaster there, not his Tele.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.2 in the world charts #ricky #nelson

  • Good song for Karaoke... fun to harmonize to it!

  • He was befor my time but thanks to my parent's I love rick nelson!!

  • @kellytownshend33

And thanks to my folks, I'll never forget him, either!! ;-))))

  • i love this seeing him not in a suit like most other bands of the day looks like the youth of his time

  • Is there anybody else here who came to see this song after watching Matt and Gunner Nelson in Headliners?

  • Whats a nice guy !

  • I was only 4 when my brothers played this, I have forgotton this

  • I wish I was born that time.... but not here in Germany! :-) That is music! Nothing else! I like it so much!

  • @THW2005 very good English!

  • un grand classique, repris par Led Zeppelin, Creadance Revival and so ...We love it ever in France !!

  • Did he ever get addicted to drugs? Sorry I'm just wondering I have no clue

  • i Also Watched The Ozzie And Harriet Show To Watch Ricky!!

    My God He Was Beautiful!!

He Was Aging Wonderfully, Then He Was Taken..........

  • I had such a crush on him when I was 5 years old watched the show every week couldn`t wait until the end when he would sing I had two older brothers that would sit and hold there noses as if to say he stunk at singing I know now they did it to just get a rise out of me worked every week...LOL!!

  • I never really watched Ricky singing this back in the day when it was number one, but now I find interesting that his eyes are so blank, not quite dead, but expressionless, but when he looks down it seems he's wearing a kind of pleased look, like an inner smile that he can't keep from showing. Different times, very innocent in many ways. I'd have been about 12.

  • It's crazy to think how this was what people were crazy about the same way it is with some artists today. Weird how things have changed.

  • dreamy voice

  • great video....I had the pleasure of performing an hour of Ricky's hits at the International Guitar Festival in the U.K. backed by my idol James Burton...life doesn't get any better than that.....photos on my website donwoods.co.uk.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts #ricky #nelson

  • cute guy love check shirts very nice bit rock

  • James Burton was robbed, but those in the know realize how great he was..

  • En utav mina gamla favoriter

    Du är super

    Gutte

  • I fucked a Mary Lou in Arizona once.

  • and they removed the classic Burton solo! There's still many of today's pro guitarists simply cant replicate this particular solo. But of course Ozzie was promoting Ricky, not JB.

  • Do you remember him singing at the end of Ozzie and Harriet Show?

  • So ....what happened to the James Burton Lead????

  • Wow! it's Captain America.

  • Still lovin'it!!

  • Great Singer, great actor, never forget Rio Bravo!

  • This song keeps with me all my life!

    thnks,

    ptm51

  • My aunt named marilu died today, i always like this song and use to sing it to her sometimes, good memories

  • The only man my mom would have cheated on my dad with LOL, I was left countless singles of Ricky Nelson when she passed away LMAO.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts #ricky #nelson

  • I hate to sound like a crank, but I can't give a thumbs up for this, even though the video is great, because they passed over James Burton's lead solo. WHY???

  • Good to hear a male singer that actualy sounds like a man not like todays 'singers' who sound more like women than the female 'singers'!

  • He gets that leg going, don't he!? :D Great Song!!

  • New riders of the Purple sage did a KILLER version of this on thier 1972 album with a screamin pedal steel

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts #ricky #nelson
