  • Nice tones and playing man..

  • This is the real deal!

  • Dude, thanks for keeping James genious alive and thumpin. I learned to play my 1956 PB to these songs. To this day, noone has layed down better bottom. And you have the funk in you!

  • HEY... HOW CAN I LEARN IF I DONT SEE YOUR LEFT HAND ...! I Want to fever in the funk too.

  • @stickwithganja 2 ears is better than a left hand...

  • One of the funkiest lines ever 8)

Thank you so much for posting this

  • Awesome! ... would love to see another version showing your left hand too :-)

  • can someone tell me who does this version of this song?

  • Do you have an actual mute (foam, etc.) underneath your bridge cover? I have a Fender Japan '62 reissue with flats and a Fender Original '62 P-Bass pickup, but I don't get nearly that nice of a sound.

Also, do you have the book Standing in the Shadows of Motown? That's a great book. Another great play along books is the Duck Dunn book (What Duck Done). It's a blast. God bless.

  • Oh boy! I am really driving mad to get this track... I read the topics, tried to find it many times, zero results! Jamersonhook, could ya tell me more o other sources to get it? Tablature is everywhere, but they're months I am searching for the track... NOTHING! :(

    Heeeeeelp!

  • @ayrtonthegreat i'm going to upload it, wait a moment

  • Very nice, I love it that you are using one finger liker Jamerson.

  • how would someone get a similar sound on a bass amp like James Jamerson's ???

    ...i got a P bass too

  • @ropy89

Try with an Ampeg B-15 if you're able to find one well working, use full gain and half treble tone... and do not forget to use Labella Deep Talking Bass L-760M and a soft damping under the bridge cover. No effects coul reproduce this...

  • @ayrtonthegreat - thanks mate !

  • @ayrtonthegreat - oh yeah one more thing, how thick should those strings be ? i mean the size 45-100 or so ?

  • @ropy89

No, the right size (or the size JJ I think he used) are 51-110. Keep in mind he NEVER adjusted the trussrod, and his action was very high (impossible to fret by others, as I read), so thickness was not a problem. He also never changed the strings and rarely he cleaned his bass: Motown's players joked him for this, but it seems he said that this was the secret of his sound...

  • @ayrtonthegreat - wow, those are thick strings dude :D

yeah i heard he never changed the strings but anyway man, thanks for your advise and information !

  • @ropy89

    ups! .052-.110 :-)

  • o my god omg omg omgo mgomgogmogmogg this precision is soooo freeeaking vintage. only gods possess instruments like these.

  • Where can I find this song? Is it on a specific album or something?

  • Awesome ... please please re-shoot this showing your left hand :-)

  • woooow, really nice groove! I have just one question, why are you using only one finger to hit the strings???

  • That is the technique used by James Jamerson known as the hook.

  • can you post original song? cant seem to find it anywhere...

  • What is the original track this bassline was taken from?

  • Instrumental called "Fever In The Funkhouse" credited to Jamerson (I think he wrote it, too, but I can't check the 45 right now), from around '69.

  • No. But he is using a lot of open D. Use your ears to figure this one out, it helps a bunch that he shows the right hand.

  • awesome!

  • tres bien!

  • you play with one finger only just like James used to

  • this is realli realli good. love the bass too

  • awesome, i love it

  • Your hook is very good!

  • Puts a new prespective on things!

  • shame you only show your right hand

  • Very impressive

  • Great song! James Jamerson R.I.P.! You sound fantastic on this! Tablature perhaps?

  • Thanks! Sorry, but I don't use tabs.

  • aha, someone who understands how its done :)

i actually cant play from tabs, all the numbers freak me out and make it look hard

and thats why its good to have a gooood ear :)

  • Can you tell me what James Jamerson albums I should get that have these amazing bass lines?

  • By ear might take 10x as long and you may miss certain notes here and there, but it's better that way. You are forced to improvise.

  • @dramajesse

I got them, if ya don't find I can provide...

  • who is this by

  • holy hell thats i have to learn that right now

  • Right in the pocket! Its a pleasure to hear you.

  • Thanks! It's a pleasure to learn 'em.

  • Fantastic...subscribed

  • Thanks - your upright bass sounds very nice, too! These are LaBellas on the Precision.

I've not heard that track - I can't wait for it to appear on the complete Motown singles series!

  • No need to wait. This track is on the Motown CD reissue of Jr. Walker's 1966 "Road Runner & Home Cookin" LP

  • This track is on "motown year by year 1969" This is not Junior Walker. Its James Jamerson and of course the rest of the Funk Brothers.

  • You've got "the hook" technique down! Very funky indeed. LaBella flats too?

BTW have you ever heard Junior Walker's "Mutiny" which features a JJ bass solo? It's the flip side to "Home cookin'" and I was lucky enough to find a copy.

  • Im Scared of YOU! That was GREAT. BassLabd

  • Far too kind, Mr Lee!
