Gradually, the German speech becomes English, so that we North Americans could understand what happened in Germany during WWII. It was based on a true story. I think the movie director did a good job making this movie. I take it that you haven't seen the movie from the beginning, so that you could see what I'm talking about.

I saw this movie because I love and respect Bryan Singer - talented director. "Valkyrie" was ok but I didn't feel the atmosphere of that period in our history. "Enemy at the Gates" (2001) and "Black Book" (2006) were much better films. I actually enjoyed Tom Cruise's performance but he did not take the lead as strongly as he should have. His non-German accent was not an issue it was the strength that he displayed in his performance that was disappointing to many. The supporting cast was superb

I feel horrible that this heroes tragedy has been butchered by Tom Cruise and his awful, awful performance. They should have given the part to an actor with the skill, and without the ugly, unavoidable celebrity image, rather than hired someone just for the big name. The man and fellow conspirators did want to negotiate with the Allies and end the war though, didn't they? True, they would of supplanted the government to rule it themselves, but if the ending of Nazism and the saving of Germany was the result, instead of the Soviets marching in and the nation falling, wouldn't it make Stauffenberg's efforts that of a hero's? Well, I might be wrong, but as far as I know, Stauffenberg *was* a Nazi himself, he simply wanted to eliminate Hitler and stop the war because, unlike the other high-ranking Nazi officers, he realized there was no chance to win. As I said, I'm not 100% sure about that, and I too think killing Hitler sure was a noble attempt, but the means don't justify the aims ...
